What would the Left call the Right, if the small boat people were white?

I'll start by saying, I am very anti open boarders, and I am horrified that so many illegal immigrants are arriving every day. But for me, it has absolutely nothing to do with skin colour, it is more to do with :

ONE) They have no documentation, and we have no idea if they have criminal backgrounds

TWO) They tend to come from cultures where women are not respected

THREE) They often come from places where rape is not a crime

FOUR) They cannot work, and it is costing Millions to house, feed and clothe them

FIVE) We are granting asylum to some people who should never get it - like the Hamas bodyguard we heard of yesterday

Lots of valid reasons I feel, however, for me, it has nothing to do with skin colour. If I had to be locked in a room overnight with a white man from a backward culture, or a black man from the UK, I would choose the latter, every single time.

It isn't colour, it's culture

But I see that people on the Far Left just scream "Racist" to anyone who opposes illegal immigration. What would they scream, if all the small boats were full of white men? And would people still march for England?

No, if it was a sequitur I would have used a word like ‘so’ or ‘therefore’. The word ‘and’ is a way of listing concepts. It was a direct response to the OPs reasoning for not wanting asylum seekers here being ‘they come from a culture where women aren’t respected’. My reply to that is WE are a culture where women aren’t not respected.

If you're looking solely at British society and where improvement is needed, its fine to point out our issues.

If you're implying that we're all the same, the world over, and by extention we should accept unfettered immigration from everywhere, it is clearly a false equivalence and a logical error on your part.

Well if it wasn’t supposed to be a sequitur then why are we not in a position to judge everyone else?

@Somerford - As I understand it, many of the men involved in the rape gangs were not 'immigrants,' they were born here.
Your argument is too binary. It's like saying that because tourists commit sec offences, we should stop tourists because of all the rapes permitted by 'unfettered' tourism over the decades.
The grooming gang you are highlighting could just as easily have been run by 'white' British men - there will be countless such gangs happening right now. They just don't make the press.

It was not a gang. It was (and still is) countless gangs all over the country and this is the second time you've sought to downplay it and characterise it as a singular one-off.

The answer to my very simple question is yes, it all happened as a direct result of mass immigration from Pakistan. You say that some of the groomers and rapists were born here as if that negates my point somehow, they were born here to Pakistani immigrant parents and they joined their fathers and uncles in the rape and torture of white girls, specifically because they were white and therefore deserving of being gang raped and tortured. That they were born here is also a direct result of immigration from Pakistan. None of this is in any way complicated. It may be inconvenient to you and your idealogy but it isn't complicated.

Somerford · Today 08:32

@storyinside I didn't address your hypothetical about tourism. If tourists from France were systematically raping and torturing tens of thousands of girls but tourists from Germany were not, there is a very obvious solution to that. One that allows your tourism industry to continue but prevents the rape and torture of your nation's children. I wonder if you can guess what it is.

We have the vote, we have choices, we have equal rights, rape is illegal, our daughters aren't forced to marry when they are underage, LGBT women are safe to choose same sex partners, women can practice whichever religion they choose, women are free to dress ĥow they want. What part of those freedoms aren't granted - with respect?

We also don't have widespread FGM and honour killings.

storyinside · Today 09:05

You don't have to like Islamic culture @Somerford . There are many aspects of it that I am extremely uncomfortable about - let's just say that. All religions are misogyny as far as I'm concerned and I have very little time for any of them. I have spent quite a lot of time in Pakistan - you really don't need to tell me. I spent decades railing about the treatment of women and girls in such cultures.

Nobody is trying to underplay the rape and torture of women. That response is too easy and just shuts down any sensible debate about anything. Some people just see a wider and much more nuanced picture, that's all, and they don't have the unconscious bias and fear instinct (let's just call it that) that people like you have. They see the politicised media narrative and rage-baiting for what it is. They see the stupid divisions and this weird belief that anyone who doesn't swallow the propaganda is suddenly a 'leftie'. It's this 'omni culture' nonsense - if you question the Musk / Reform driven media machine, then you must be a Labour-voting, trans, vegan who attends pro-Palestine marches. It's so stupid. But clearly, it's the trap people on these threads have fallen into. It's divide and rule tactics and it's all accelerated by the internet obviously, where moderate voices and nuanced thinking get drowned out by simplistic sound bites, fact distortion, dumbed-down rhetoric and 'taking sides.'

Yet you take the reverse of your rhetoric and you do exactly what you accuse the right of. You consign right wing to being far right.

You’re not seeing more. Some are more likely to dismiss women’s concerns here.

As are the women saying they don’t want what you do.

Hopefully at some point the gaslighting from politicians will be over and the system will change.

storyinside · Today 09:21

I have no idea if faceless people are 'Far Right'. I don't know who you are. I just see a certain media narrative being pedalled that I think is a dangerous, insidious distortion. I believe that certain elements if the media are emboldening culture-based hate and giving a voice to closet racists and xenophobes - all under the guise of 'protect our women.'

Well if Elon Musk really wanted to protect 'our women' I could think of a lot of things he could do right this second. But he doesn't does he? Because 'free speech' and all. It's the sheer hypocrisy that I'm most worried about.

We’re posting re safeguarding women and girls.

The system fails on that. The excuse that it’s the media creating a problem rather than resolving the actual issue is part of what’s delaying change.

storyinside · Today 09:38

Obviously, the system fails women and girls. This goes without saying.

The point is, that the Musk (Reform) media machine wants us to think is that the threat is from outside - from 'them.' While we are busy feeding into the fear and 'othering' a minority, we are distracted from the fact that the real threat is from within. The phone in your son's hand is far more of a threat to women than the average guy who arrives here in a dingy. Musk gives a platform to misogyny: free porn for all; a platform to the likes of Andrew Tate and the incel movement; our children are more confused than ever and questioning what a woman is - all this is fuelled by Elon Musk's X and other media. Yet we're all meant to 'look over there' and believe that the greatest danger to women are this 1% of migrants. When are children are being potentially groomed online (ideologically) in more ways than we can even comprehend and the only voices that get heard are the most shrill because people just want easy scapegoats.

Interesting. I write several posts about Pakistani rape gangs, you respond with "you don't have to like Islamic culture..."

You've just conceded that rape gangs are an inevitable consequence of allowing immigration from Muslim countries. And you elaborate further about having spent decades railing against the treatment of women and girls in such cultures. I don't think I need to add anything else.

We agree that immigration from countries such as Pakistan is dangerous and harmful for British women and girls. You want more of it, I want less of it. I think my position is reasonable and yours is not.

We'll vote for Farage, see how he gets on with 'stop the boats.' And even if he could do this (he can't) do we really think in 10 years, violence against women is going to be better or worse?
