Anyone else sad summer is drawing to a close?

I’ve had a great summer - loads of memories with our daughter (3), playing in the garden daily and trips in the sun.

I already feel sad it’s coming to a close - I like the Christmas build up in December but apart from that I really struggle with the grey days and know I’ll be reminiscing loads for summer 😥

God no, bring of Autumn and some rain.

I get melancholy at the thought of Autumn and the short, dank days ahead… love the Summer, don’t mind being sweaty!!

Not sad, it's just the cycle of the seasons. But I'll tell you what I feel - the years are flying by so quickly for me now, I only have to blink and I'm another year older. That pisses me off, but at the same time, it's a privilege to be alive and well at my advanced age!

This Summer was very challenging for me and for many others I'm sure, at times the heat was unbearable. At the moment I am revelling in the fact that I am now motivated to get out and about again without passing out! I am just not built for that kind of intense humid heat, and it sucked the life out of me.

Probably every teacher in the country feels the same!
I love the summer holidays and always have done. Autumn can be nice though and still pretty. The dreary days you describe are more what I associate with December.

Yes, I'm even looking back at the heatwave with nostalgia tinted eyes.

Not a trendy thing to say on MN, and it doesn't mean I think the droughts and the fires are worth it, or that I don't feel for everyone affected.

But I love the hot summers, the long evenings, and I struggle with winter.

No I'm glad and I'm in Scotland where the high temperature was only about 27°. It must have been bloody awful for the people in the south east. Bring on darker nights and pumpkin spice season.

It was dark before 9 here tonight. I hate the dark nights. I'm not one for festering under blankets with hot chocolate though.

Yes - hence the long term username 😆. It’s already noticeably getting darker. It’s colder, I’m not ready to have to remember to take a coat everywhere winter is so limiting in so many ways for my family and it’s a long time until summer comes back round

Absolutely with you - DC much older here but have loved having them home from uni and youngest has had GCSEs so has been off for ages.

I'm a teacher and dreading going back even though I love my job and will be fine once term starts.

Love summer and hate the long dark days. Don't mind a crisp Autumn day and love Christmas but otherwise winter is so long.

Yes and no. Really loved the sunshine but very sad about all the wildlife killed by dehydration and starvation in these high temps.

I thought summer would never end this year and was enjoying that feeling. Today it has been decidedly chilly and I feel sad that it has come to a close.

I'm not ready to pack my summer dresses away yet. I haven't even worn some of them.
Feels like such a long time until I'll get to wear them again 😥

I hate when the trees lose their leaves. It makes me think another 6 months of dark depressing weather to get through.

Yes.
I enjoy a change of season but god the cold and wet are a million times harder than long sunny days.

Yes it was a brilliant summer even though I was at work alot.The morning is dark at 5 again so it's harder to get up.
I get SAD so apart from some new autumn clothes I do wish we had more summer left.
Maybe a month more in summer dresses.

It’s been just too hot for me to do anything outdoors - moving about in anything over about 24C makes me uncomfortably sweaty and feel quite unwell. Added to which strong, unrelieved sunlight gives me migraine. Until recent years 24C was a hot day in the UK. What we get now is well outside the norm.

Very mixed feelings. The heat has been awful for wildlife and plants and some people, but suddenly it seems very autumnal. I would have liked more of an easing in process. I like Autumn, but find winter really hard.

I always am. I hate autumn and winter, although I didn't as a child because there were always things to look forward to: picking our apples, the local funfair, fireworks, Christmas and sometimes, playing in the snow. So now I'm trying to plan other little things to look forward to over autumn and winter. But I really wish I could leave the country during the build-up to Christmas every year - I'm beyond sick of the commercialisation and Christmas songs.

Yes and no. I miss not sitting in my back garden during the what seemed endless long warm evenings and not really having to think about what to wear each day, e.g shorts and t-shirts.

But I absolutely won't miss it being 30c in my bedroom at night, lack of sleep, stifling humidity, my cats and dog being ao uncomfortable in the heat, the damage to wildlife, risk of wildfires, wondering if it will ever rain again, work, housework and other routines being affected by extreme heat....for me, the negatives of the long hot summer far outweigh the positives.
