Anyone else sad summer is drawing to a close?

I’ve had a great summer - loads of memories with our daughter (3), playing in the garden daily and trips in the sun.

I already feel sad it’s coming to a close - I like the Christmas build up in December but apart from that I really struggle with the grey days and know I’ll be reminiscing loads for summer 😥

I am really sad that summer is fading but I do like autumn & we still have some glorious days ahead I’m sure. I’ve enjoyed some fantastic warm days in October before also, so let’s not right it off yet.

ElsiePiddockSkipsinherSleep · 21/08/2026 22:34

Yes and no. We’ve had the best summer that I can remember, so I feel a bit sad it’s drawing to a close. We’ve not been away since spring so have really appreciated being able to be outside for dinners and lunches for weeks on end. We have done a ridiculous amount of hosting here too and it’s been everything you hope for when you think of summer.

But - I absolutely love autumn so I am looking forward to it. And, there’s hope we’ll get another spell of hot weather in September.

ListenLinda · 21/08/2026 22:34

Yes. We’ve had a great summer, lovely sunny days, light nights, heat & aun. I love the turn into Autumn, but I wiah it would stay warm and dry for a few more weeks. It’s done nothing but chuck it down here all week and it has turned my mood.

ACatInHellsChance · 21/08/2026 22:36

Yes, I've felt a genuine shift in my mood this week. I love summer. I don't mind to much September-October as long as it's not too rainy (although where I live it often is very rainy), especially as we have a lot of family birthdays then. I also quite like December because of all the festivities and again more family birthdays. But November - ugh, and January-April - ugh again. I mostly live for May-August really!

Mrsmch123 · 21/08/2026 22:38

Yeh me....I hate November through to march

NormasArse · 21/08/2026 22:41

I get really sad at the end of summer. I love the long, light days- they give me energy.

Alittlefrustrated · 21/08/2026 22:44

Well there's Halloween and Bonfire Night,Christmas, NewYear, Pancakes. At age 3 everything is new and exciting for DD. This is your opportunity to reach her to love all seasons. Fake it 'til you make it OP!
Start researching autumnal activities and crafts. Indoors and out. Foster an all weather attitude.

BitOutOfPractice · 21/08/2026 22:47

Hmm fuck “fostering an all weather attitude”. I will mourn the end of the summer. The dark. That’s what I hate. The dark.

emmetgirl · 21/08/2026 22:49

Absolutely not.
I like having seasons

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 21/08/2026 22:52

Yessss. I was pleased to get into a cosy bed tonight instead of not being able to sleep in a baking bedroom but I’ve been feeling chilly all day and not being able to dry my washing outside sucks

LejlaKapovic · 21/08/2026 22:52

I'm sad summer is coming to an end. I like autumn but summer is my favourite time of year.

In the end of the day, I appreciate all the different seasons. But my God winter is rough to get through. I didn't go on my usual winter escape this year and I felt it. It was a hard time, and we experienced a particular harsh winter this year.

caringcarer · 21/08/2026 22:54

I love the summer too OP. I've got 3 teens and I've loved watching them all play in cricket matches and we went on a 2 week holiday together and everyone got on well and it was a lot of fun. Teens went on high zip wires and DH and I sat under a tree in shade on scorching hot day and ate several ice creams getting occasional glimpses of one or other of them swinging through the trees. Eldest will be back at uni in September and other 2 starting college courses. We are making the most of the last few weeks of summer although I did hear we might get another heat wave in September.

user1497787065 · 21/08/2026 22:54

I am absolutely sick of summer . Too hot to be outside and too hot to sleep. It’s been a miserable
summer for me and I’ve spent so much more time inside than I would normally as I can’t stand it.

I’m looking forward to autumn and winter.

caringcarer · 21/08/2026 22:56

Mrsmch123 · 21/08/2026 22:38

November is the worst month it always seems so cold and miserable. I think I hate it so much because my Mum had her funeral in November and it was a cold and miserable day.

DoubleShotEspresso · 21/08/2026 22:57

It’s been a horrid summer, I have felt ill and exhausted for most of it. I have found it more depressing than the rainiest day in January, honestly.
Cannot wait for autumn.

Realworld10 · 21/08/2026 22:57

I used to be, like you, young and adventures and also then with DC. However now, menopausal, working in schools in heatwaves, looking forward to cooler weather 😎

deedeemegadoodoo · 21/08/2026 23:00

meee! Im a summer person plus I have to go back to work as a teacher in September, I’ve been in Cornwall and France all summer. Not looking forward to the cooler and darker nights, the cold dog walks and setting my alarm clock.

EsmeSusanOgg · 21/08/2026 23:03

I love summer. The longer days. The nicer weather. Outings with the kids.

ChocolateCinderToffee · 21/08/2026 23:05

It’s the cycle of the seasons and fundamental to everything on earth. I’m delighted we’ve had a bit of rain and it’s cooled down.

Tabbitha · 21/08/2026 23:06

ChefNoMore · 21/08/2026 21:32

Yay, apparently we’ve got El Niño to look forward to with rain, storms and a cold winter. 🤨

Yes please!

Besidemyselfwithworry · 21/08/2026 23:07

Ilovemyshed · 21/08/2026 21:24

God no, bring of Autumn and some rain.

Amen sister
I have hated this awful hot weather and I am pleased it’s cooler and I’m looking forward to autumn and winter definately

itsallaroundus · 21/08/2026 23:09

Yes and no.

Im going to miss the daylight and to be honest, the dry days have been so lovely.

But the heat has been oppressive. It’s been far too much.

SeriouslyAreYouSure · 21/08/2026 23:12

I don't feel like I've had a summer.

I have a few medical conditions and can no longer stand the heat. Sadly now it makes me really unwell so I've just spent the last eight weeks or whatever trying to avoid the heat wave and keep cool. I haven't been able to enjoy any of it.😩🙇🏻‍♀️🤬

I feel like I'm waiting for summer to start...& and yet the nights are getting darker so early 🥹🥹😩😩

I love autumn, it's my favourite season, but I do like to feel like I've had summer first.

Happyjoe · 21/08/2026 23:14

Can we just have the Goldilocks of weather more often please? Not freezing tits off weather, or being too hot to do anything without needing another shower.... just nice, pleasantly warm sunny day that puts a spring in a person step and a smile on their face but can still get things done!

smalldogsarecute · 21/08/2026 23:15

I’m looking forward to being able to leave the house and do stuff again. I suffer reverse SAD though.
