Anyone else sad summer is drawing to a close?

I’ve had a great summer - loads of memories with our daughter (3), playing in the garden daily and trips in the sun.

I already feel sad it’s coming to a close - I like the Christmas build up in December but apart from that I really struggle with the grey days and know I’ll be reminiscing loads for summer 😥

It’s been too hot, so no. Don’t particularly like the depths of winter either but at least my house is cosy and habitable again.

You are spot on about the passage of time and embracing the seasons.
I'm in my 50s and the years are passing so fast. I think if all the winters I've spent counting down to spring and how daft it seems now to be wishing away your precious life.
I love summer, but most of all I love being alive in the world with my people and all that has to offer whether the sun's shining or not.

Autumn is lovely, winter is not. But I've loathed merely existing in 34+ heat. Mixed feelings. I have been a little taken aback by how fast the nights are drawing in, though.

No because I really love autumn. It was only 10 degrees last night so I had my candle on and covered myself in a blanket to watch TV, it felt lovely! I love walking in the autumn, love the coziness, love Halloween and yes I love Christmas lots too.

I dread it every year as my poor arthritic joints will flare up and I will be in agony.

I understand some people don’t like hot weather but for me it’s been heavenly.

I'm really looking forward to Autumn as it's great for gardening; digging out new beds, planting loads of things ready for next year, moving plants around, planting trees! The garden has felt so stagnant this Summer.

I generally find that the seasons in the UK are just the right length for me to be really ready for the next one when one comes to an end.

Yes me I bloody hate the winter / grey days.

There's something melancholy about the days getting shorter. Even if autumn is warm and sunny those longer nights make it feel as though the whole world is on a downturn. I am fortunate in loving Christmas, so I put all my energy into looking forward to that, then I just have to endure January and February and then it's spring again, which does feel rather like wishing time away.

I’m on the south coast & so sad that summer is nearly over! I cannot stand the cold grey wet months, like you December is nice and the Christmas lights make things brighter, but January & Feb are awful :(
I’m hoping we have the same hot summers as a permanent fixture, it is sweaty but living next to the sea has been glorious! It’s so nice to see people out and about enjoying the beautiful sunshine!

I love summer. Devastated when it ends. I feel like I can properly live. Wish it was hot every day. Soon it's going to be dark, rainy and the traffic will get worse again. Hideous

I love long summer evenings , a good friend lived in Cyprus for several years and said that was what she missed most about the UK. I do love autumn ,especially now I'm retired from teaching, and will be off on short breaks to make the most of it. Not a big fan of wet weather even though I have appropriate clothing .

I commented earlier (love summer, hate autumn/winter) and reading all the posts has got me wondering if there’s some personality type bias 🧐 I am extrovert personality type and love that summer brings so much more options - park trips, play dates, days out, BBQs, just more seeing people! Get to see neighbours much more rather than just dashing to the door in the rain etc etc . The thought of lots of time at home, gathering in, hibernating etc does not appeal to my personality type at all but would be perfect for more introvert personality types 🧐 Just a random thought from me!

Absolutely not! The heatwaves in London have been horrible.

I like all the seasons in their own way tbh. And this summer has made me quite anxious with the drought and wildfires, so quite looking forward to a cosy autumn now. I used to dread winter and entertaining DD over the weekend but now she's older we have lovely weekends with her hobby on a Saturday then quiet Sundays

Usually I would be very sad about summer coming to an end as I love sunny days and warmth; however, this summer has just been much too hot (south coast) with relentless sunshine and humidity so I am glad to see the back of it for once. I haven't done anything worthwhile during the heatwaves and it feels like a 'lost summer' to me!

I love having the door to the garden open. Wearing few clothes. The light, the sea swimming, days at the lido, eating outside, it feels like freedom.

I do like things about the other seasons but wish summer lasted 6 or 8 months.

I love the heat and even though sometimes it got a bit hot for me I'm sad it has gone. I'm sadder that my garden was such a mess I didn't sit outside much.

But autumn is also really lovely.

I used to, used to find the August bank holiday the most depressing day of the year. I don’t anymore though. I am retired with no caring responsibilities, have our wedding anniversary in September and I’m not stuck in an office watching it get darker earlier. And I really enjoy the Christmas build up now, used to really hate it.

I feel exactly the same, I've just started to have actual refreshing deep sleep for the first time in weeks, I've come home from work exhausted, with zero energy for anything, I've done very basic housework late in the evening when it's slightly cooler, and no exercise at all. I've been a miserable zombie and now I feel alive again, I do love the summer normally, but this heat has been debilitating.

Yes I’m so sad about it and, like a pp said, I am feeling nostalgic for the heatwaves. I said I definitely wouldn’t need to go abroad this year as the weather has been so wonderful, yet a week of cooler weather and some rain has me looking at sunshine breaks 🤷‍♀️

Yes all the moaners, will be sorry when it's freezing cold, and dark at 4.30 in a few months. Summers very brief. Winters very long.

So sad. I can’t face autumn and winter. I’ve even been looking at flats in Mauritius. 😆

I hate it when summer finishes. The thought of 6 months of long dark nights with cold and rain makes me feel depressed.

Personally I think of September as ‘still summer’ - though it can be a bit chilly early and late, even if the days are very warm.

I can’t say I’ve really enjoyed the summer here - just too bloody hot in this part of outer London. I do quite like Autumn - season of mists and mellow soupfulness - I shall be making a lot of lovely soups with cheap! seasonal veg. I don’t even mind winter, although I do dislike January. February is better, spring flowers beginning to come out.
