Anyone else sad summer is drawing to a close?

I’ve had a great summer - loads of memories with our daughter (3), playing in the garden daily and trips in the sun.

I already feel sad it’s coming to a close - I like the Christmas build up in December but apart from that I really struggle with the grey days and know I’ll be reminiscing loads for summer 😥

Not sad, it's just the cycle of the seasons. But I'll tell you what I feel - the years are flying by so quickly for me now, I only have to blink and I'm another year older. That pisses me off, but at the same time, it's a privilege to be alive and well at my advanced age!

This Summer was very challenging for me and for many others I'm sure, at times the heat was unbearable. At the moment I am revelling in the fact that I am now motivated to get out and about again without passing out! I am just not built for that kind of intense humid heat, and it sucked the life out of me.

This exactly

I’m actually finding everyone saying ‘it’s over’ with such dread, worse!

I don't believe it's over yet. I reckon we've got another two weeks, possibly three.

YANBU I absolutely love the summer and hate the cold, wind, rain and dark. There is nothing I like about winter.

iloveanearlynight · 21/08/2026 21:43

Fuck that shit. I can get my life back once it cools. It's been absolutely horrific in the heat.

AmericaPleaseThanks · 21/08/2026 21:44

Nope! Fuck summer

socks1107 · 21/08/2026 21:45

Not this year!!

LaurieFairyCake · 21/08/2026 21:46

No, London. I literally cried with relief at the lovely weather today. Being able to go outside in a hoodie, take it off when I got warm, put it back on when I walked in the shade.

Activelife · 21/08/2026 22:02

My time of the year begins now, i love the harsh weather, i heard to day that its going to get cold with the biggest El nino coming to the uk it happens every 2 or 7 years or something like that, ive not read up on it.

HolidayPlanningAgain · 21/08/2026 22:03

Absolutely, had to put a sweatshirt and socks this evening for the first time in months and it really saddened me, couldn’t eat in the garden.
it already feels like a long haul to enjoying outdoors again!
I have a few sunshine breaks booked between now and next spring but that only covers 3 weeks of the next 6 months

Holeymoley28 · 21/08/2026 22:05

I’ve been glad for some rain but the shops already putting out Halloween stuff. Dh was in the garden this evening and you could see his breath.

I am not ready for winter to arrive and I say winter as I feel we will skip autumn

Totally agree with you

I do think autumn was better years ago. It was a pleasant relaxed time with Harvest festival to look forward to and nothing to stress about,

Now it’s all get cosy,Halloween and buy for Christmas because it’s all sold out by December.

LateMumma · 21/08/2026 22:18

I love summer, and I’m dreadfully sad it’s coming to an end. It’s been wonderful, and I hope I have another this good.

zigazigaaaing · 21/08/2026 22:19

We’ve had a wonderful summer and yes I’ll be sad it’s over as the night draw in

MissyB1 · 21/08/2026 22:19

I’m dreading winter, I need light and sunshine, I suffer from SAD. Apparently we are going to have a very wet and stormy Autumn according to the Met Office, thanks to the El Niño. Sigh…..😞

Dancer48 · 21/08/2026 22:20

I think uabu because in my head it's still summer. Or at least not winter. Still bright in evenings, don't need fires...I'm calling it summer for another month.

sanityisamyth · 21/08/2026 22:21

Yes. The ground desperately needs some rain but I hate the darker evenings. I really dislike Christmas too, and everything associated with it. Roll on May 2027 when it gets warmer again.

MyManinCaracas · 21/08/2026 22:23

For the first time in years I’m ready for autumn; we had a nice hot summer, a proper season, and now it’s time to freeze our tits off for the next 9 months.

Cleo65 · 21/08/2026 22:25

Nope - looking forward to cosy Autumn vibes. Really looking forward to it....

TheChosenTwo · 21/08/2026 22:26

I love the heat and the sun, I was born to live in a hot country and feel solar powered. I was furious putting long trousers and a sweatshirt on here today, even worked from home with my electric blanket on this morning as I felt chilly even though objectively my house was still ‘warm’.
i actually like all the seasons, but as the nights begin to draw in gradually that bit earlier I feel a sense of panic that we’ve possibly had the last of sitting out in the garden with friends until late in the evening or even just me and dh for the year.
I love the light in the autumn and the brown leaves, I love the proper winter because when I’m home my fire is constantly roaring, but I will miss the weeks where I didn’t have to worry about layers of clothing and feeling cold.

Moaning5 · 21/08/2026 22:28

I am the biggest fan of summer - but autumn is beautiful ! The crisp air, the sparkling sunshine, the clear blue sky, the trees are another level of gorgeousness.

Dont forget about lovely autumn !

Xmasbaby11 · 21/08/2026 22:31

It’s been too hot for me and work has been insanely busy. However we had a lovely holiday and it’s felt like a proper season, so im happy to have good memories from it.

every season is exciting with young children! You will have a wonderful autumn too. I would print off some of your favourite summer photos and put them in a frame. And then make plans for autumn - leaves changing colour, Halloween, bonfire night!

aWeeCornishPastie · 21/08/2026 22:31

I am yes

FaceIt · 21/08/2026 22:31

Yes, I’ll miss it too 😌

The dark, the rain, the wind, the heating bills. The reality of Autumn not the romantic MN version.
