Anyone else sad summer is drawing to a close?

I’ve had a great summer - loads of memories with our daughter (3), playing in the garden daily and trips in the sun.

I already feel sad it’s coming to a close - I like the Christmas build up in December but apart from that I really struggle with the grey days and know I’ll be reminiscing loads for summer 😥

this summer has been awful. My flat is boiling and I dread to see my final electricity bill before I move in a few weeks. Moving 230 miles north, and praying next summer isn’t as hot. Bring on Autumn.

It's 5 weeks until our local lido closes. That makes me sad.

Looking forward to cooler weather, but it's been a lovely summer as well for me despite the heat wave.

It's all good, seasons change, life would be boring otherwise.

I’ve loved the warm, sunny weather, although 30 and above was a tad hot. It’s been lovely living in shorts and T-shirt and having barbecues. Don’t mind autumn but not a winter lover.

I used to love every season because there's something to look forward in every season, but I've started to dread summer. It's too hot and the drought gets me down. It's started to feel threatening. I can't wait for summer to be over.

Me. I'm dreading the coming months of endless gloomy weather. Having to dry laundry indoors for months on end is depressing. I hate being cold and wet and the mud....living where I do there's no escaping the fucking stuff, roads, pavements, garden it's everywhere.

It might be the nicest part of summer yet, the next few weeks! Nice weather without it being too hot.

But I haven’t forgotten that the first half of this year was cold and very, very wet, right into June (apart from one hot week in May): they think we’ve forgotten that, while they bang on about drought. It’s a drag going into autumn thinking “that’s it until June next year”.

Also, the scaremongering language used all the time, as if someone has to keep the 2020 terror going, “Extreme heat”. “Summers like this are the new normal.” Every time the temperature fluctuated, it was “another heatwave”, so they say could doom-laden things like “five heatwaves, and a sixth on the way”. Just like in 2020, when every “uptick” (vomit) was “a third wave, a fourth wave, a fifth wave, etc”. And “flocking”, another inflammatory word.

To me, it's been a lovely summer and I say this from living in the south East and having a very badly designed house for heat so the really hot days were tough.

Having had a proper summer I can deal with the idea of the colder weather coming. For me the issue with UK weather was the drab cold, cloudy summers where you only had a few decent sunny days which were always inevitablely when you're working. No point planning a bbq when it's probably going to rain.

Yes, our house is really dark in the winter. North west and last few winters have been long wet and miserable. This summer has been fabulous here, not too hot. Noticed last night walking the dog that the angle of the sun has changed…

I'm always like this but then I remember we just get up each day and put a jumper on, go for a walk etc. the thought is always worse than the reality. We always get through it.There are things to like about autumn and winter but I definitely love the light nights and mornings.

God no. Autumn can't come soon enough! I've always hated summer, and this one was particularly heinous.

I'm not looking forward to the cold and damp but or whatever El Nino throws at us, but you know what? It comes again next year.

Yes. I love autumn but hate the long UK winter. December to April is a long and miserable slog.

I also struggle with feeling like the years go so fast and my summers are being wasted on a hamster wheel of work and parenting juggle that I don’t have the financial comfort to get off, if only for one summer.

The snuggling under a blanket the c word (which in this context is more irritating than the actual 'c' word) up with a good book with hot chocolate stuff gets on my wick.

No. I've had a brilliant summer with so many positive changes. But they will continue into autumn. And we need the rain!

Autumn is my favourite season. I love the feeling of gathering in as summer ends. I've been making jams and preserves, tidying up the garden, harvesting produce. Can't wait to bring out the long boots, scarves and sweaters.

Yes. I've enjoyed the hot weather and I'm sad it's now chilly even though it's still August. I don't like wearing layers and our winters are so long. I hope we would still have warm weather for a while longer.

Yes!! I’ve loved this summer (although totally get it’s getting very worrying that we have such hot weather). I was sad this morning because I had to wear a jacket to walk the dog.
Autumn can get in the fucking bin. “Oh but the beautiful colours!”….piss off. Shortening days, wind, rain, mist, mud, leaves all over my house. I’d happily leave the country until Christmas Eve.
By winter I’m kind of over it and anyway the days start to lengthen just before Christmas so I feel there’s something to look forward to.

Weather almost always gets sunnier if not warmer once the schools go back, and September can be a beautiful month.

What saddens me is putting the clocks back in late October, a practice that should be consigned to history.

I love autumn but dreaded the seasonal depression I get during winter; I bought a Lumie daylight lamp and sit in front of it for 20 minutes a day and it really helped.

I’m totally with you OP. Whilst I acknowledge climate change obviously isn’t a positive thing… I live for the summer. I’m in a much better mood. Early morning waking, washing drying outside, the general mood, walking around in dresses / shorts and Birkenstocks, light evenings/ going to the lido, summer holidays.. My mood is infinitely better when the sun is out.. to the point where I absolutely dread September as it means 6
months of darkness.

It stops me enjoying autumn too (which I know is a beautiful season) because of what comes after. Don’t get me wrong, I can appreciate the beauty of a gorgeous cold winter’s day with blue skies but they are few and far between and all I can see is waking up in darkness, leaving work in darkness, stressing about how much the heating is costing, being cold, rain and my general low mood. I can’t understand the ‘but I love curling up under and blanket’ brigade. It’s all about summer for me. I was born in August so maybe that has an impact!

I know I need to reframe in my mind as my feelings of dread about what lies ahead at this time of year get worse every year.

Both my DC had exams this year, so school finished ages ago and summer seems to have been going on for months! We have all loved this long, hot summer with both of them loving life and making the most of their post-exam high.

I usually get all hot and bothered about the hot weather in the uk and the lack of supportive infrastructure, but this summer felt like a shift. Brits in general seemed more at ease with it. I walked around my town seeing people in lovely summery outfits as if they were in the med.

If course how we got here is not ideal and I’ll be making changes to our house in anticipation of next summer.

I usually love Autumn and Winter, but not looking forward to it as much as I usually do.That said, I usually go into each season positively and do things that suit it. I won’t sit round moping.

Yes, it's miserable seeing the mornings and evenings get darker. I hate this time of year.

id love a bit of summer.

I'm torn. I love summer and hate winter (except Christmas) but even I admit that this summer has been a bit much. I don't mind warm days (my house is very cool) but the restless nights, not being able to walk the dog unless it was before dawn or after dark, baked garden, my exercise routine being thrown out because it's too hot to run - it all got rather wearing.

But my daughter did get married on a gorgeous dry, sunny day just as the heat was waning a bit so there was that.
