Disney loving men

What are you thoughts on Disney loving men? It’s one of the things that contributed to my divorce I would say. Am I wrong here?

his obsession really got out of control in the end and it Really put me off. He was spending money on this hobby. A middle aged man tweeting about princess movies and obsessing over Mickey Mouse. He’s into other stuff that is similar but would be too outing to discuss. When he likes something he REALLY likes it.

we do have kids that show a moderate interest in Disney, I would say a normal level for kids. they are actually older and kinda moving away from it now anyway.

would this put you off? Or was I unreasonable?

I have a family member who’s a Disney adult, it’s quite common. My relative goes to the Disney parks quite frequently, collects Disney pin badges and ornaments. She can’t display them all though as she still lives at home with her DM.

Disney makes her happy though, so live and let live.

There was someone nicknamed, the “Peter Pan woman”, a grown woman who stalked the actor playing Peter Pan ALL day. The poor man looked so uncomfortable, but had to remain in character throughout. Now, that’s very concerning. It went viral on TikTok recently.

Edited

Oh gosh yes the Peter Pan woman was unhinged 😳😳 - but thankfully not reflective of the huge amount of normal Disney fans!

There's generally something a bit odd about men and women who are obsessed with Disney - it is a bit Peter Pan. Who on earth would go to Disneyland Paris without children? It's like going to see Santa at the local garden center without a child, and sitting on the big mans lap yourself. .

That sounds like the sort of thing that should get you on a register. Peter Pan is only really famous for being a boy that didn't grow up.

Notworth your time or energy, let it go

As Elsa would say....sorry 😂

It's something I have sympathy for but when I'm just doing something like exploring a hobby or an interest for fun I'm not there to put up with rudeness from other people. That stops it being potentially fun for me.

That's fair enough - at least the internet is big enough that you don't have to engage with stuff you don't like.

Ha brilliant. Our lives are very much still connected partly because of kids and partly Because divorce process is lengthy. The finances etc.

also I’m trying to understand a massive part of my life and where it went horribly wrong

From what I know Walt Disney designed the Disneyland in LA and the subsequent Disney World in Florida for all ages, including adults, and he had a very playful personality himself and wanted to create a place where people could just relax and have fun. The parks are meant to be enjoyed by all ages, not just kids. You have alcohol drinking events in Disney world, NYE parties, wine festival, live music etc. I used to think like you until I visited Florida. It’s nothing like the European theme parks or family days out in the UK (which are designed for children).

WhatNoRaisins · 16/08/2026 14:45

I remember watching one of those Disney Adult videos where a woman ended up sobbing in the arms of a "character". I've no doubt that she was going through something sad to get to that point but this is some bloke in a costume who I assume has no mental health training and I felt more sorry for him.

QuintadosMalvados · 16/08/2026 14:46

It would be off-putting that's for sure.
Same with Dr Who obsessives or any adult male who is obsessed with cartoons and the like.

Decades ago when the magazine Chat was still around AND printed on newspaper-I'm that old!- I remember as a teen being in hysterics about this article that featured a man who was building a Dalek in the shed and his wife was pissed off by it as he spent all his spare time on it.

Got to admit, the way it was written was totally hilarious. 😂

Wish I could read it now.

As I asked earlier, how did you come to marry him in the first place? Has he gradually got worse and worse? Because if he was always as you described, I cannot imagine what induced you to even date him, let alone marry and procreate with him.

One of the things that has bothered me lately is his lack of awareness of the news and politics. He literally will not know anything that is going on in the world. He has zero awareness.

yet he knows everything and I mean everything about films and Disney stuff. He will take up debates/argue with other random people online about tiny details in films.

ges also started a you tube channel that has completely grossed me out as he does weird faces on the thumbnails. Discussing fictional worlds and characters. Almost like they are real people

It almost spunds like he is disassociating from real life.

I agree with PPs that a quirky or even childish interest in someone who is otherwise a well rounded adult is one thing, but it sounds likes he's actively avoiding adult life.

To be fair, being into hard rock or Romantic poetry is way cooler than being into Disney.

Maybe but equally tedious when you are being forced to listen to someone monologuing about it for the 40th time that day.

My dad was a bit like this: obsessive tendencies and used to get into particular topics to the point where it took over his life. Some of them were intrinsically fascinating subjects but there’s only so many times you can hear the same facts and stories without being utterly drained by it.

forceofhabitandnotneed · 16/08/2026 15:03

I suspect it's the obsessive nature of his interests rather than the actual subject that's the problem. Yes, Disney is a bit unusual for an adult man, but the level of engagement that the OP talks about would likely be as problematic if he was fixated on tortoiseshell cats, Northern Soul or post-war Australian politics.

Disclaimer- I’m not one of the Disney adults who is into visiting the characters, but if people are that’s fine. But you can spend 4 days in Disneyland Paris doing all sorts of things without meeting a single character (as we did). It’s not like visiting Santa!

You know Disneyland Paris (and all other parks) are also theme parks with rides right? Yes a lot of rides in Disney are for smaller children but a lot are for older children/adults. Would you think it just as baffling for some adults to go to Alton Towers without children? Just because you go to Disney land Paris doesn’t mean you HAVE to spend the entire time queuing up to meet Snow White. You can spend your time on Hyperspace Mountain, tower of terror, avengers assemble flight force, thunder mountain, Indiana Jones ride etc. Then at Disney world you also have Tron, Guardians of the Galaxy cosmic rewind, expedition Everest, Rock and roller coaster…. Most of these are not suitable at all for young children. The rides aren’t all it’s all small world and pirates of the Caribbean.

Did he have an unhappy childhood by any chance? If so he may be compensating in some way but his hobby is weird for an adult although some men spend hours playing with model railway layouts and some women play with life like baby dolls taking them out for walks etc. It takes all sorts I guess but in my working day (can't explain too much about it) the weirdest men I encounter are the ones in their 50's wearing a Superman t-shirt!!!!

What about men in band t shirts or football t shirts? Or is it only film related t shirts that make people weird?

I take your point - the blokes who won't have a word said against Man United or Oasis as generally regarded as "proper lads" who women are supposed to find really attractive!

Its only when they wear t-shirts relating to children's toys, comics, movies etc. For example if I walked around in a Disney princess t-shirt I would look weird. Football and Band t-shirts are fine for adults.

Are all superhero films for children? Have you watched a lot of the most recent films? I
don’t think I’d ever show punisher for example to an 8 year old. I think a lot of children would get very bored in the most recent Batman films.

Since when do superheroes and princesses have an age limit? And who decided what that limit should be? Confused

DurinsBane · 16/08/2026 16:27

Men being that into Disney are often gay, or autistic. But being as obsessed as he is, screams autism

smallglassbottle · 16/08/2026 16:28

I would run away screaming 😱

Ankooey · 16/08/2026 16:39

I really hope all mothers of autistic (and non autistic) boys make sure they grow up to only have interests deemed “acceptable”. Make sure you set that alarm on a specific birthday to remove any toys or comics etc. Replace it all with football stuff. Otherwise all women in the future will run away screaming.

Yep. And I hope all these women calling autistic people sad, or weird, or in need of intervention, never end up parenting disabled children themselves.
