Disney loving men

What are you thoughts on Disney loving men? It’s one of the things that contributed to my divorce I would say. Am I wrong here?

his obsession really got out of control in the end and it Really put me off. He was spending money on this hobby. A middle aged man tweeting about princess movies and obsessing over Mickey Mouse. He’s into other stuff that is similar but would be too outing to discuss. When he likes something he REALLY likes it.

we do have kids that show a moderate interest in Disney, I would say a normal level for kids. they are actually older and kinda moving away from it now anyway.

would this put you off? Or was I unreasonable?

I had a friend years ago who was like this with HP. She visited the studios and HP world or whatever it is in Florida annually. She had glass cabinets full of merch. She was utterly obsessed by it. No idea whether she still is, we parted ways. I think it’s a form of arrested development.

An ex became obsessive about true crime and the death penalty. Arrested development for sure, though I’d not heard of it then, but also autistic traits that I only realised after we parted.

Ok I just read about arrested development and yes. I see so many things
childish outbursts and sulking
HATES negativity and confrontation (says grew up in house that had arguing)
oddball parents and even stranger grandparents (all of them obsess about various things and make it their entire personality)
awful with money (spends it all on hobbies) gets into debt
very very very naive and believes everything they read, sees good in everyone. Mother is a danger to herself at times.

he has a job but has struggled and he also gotten scammed a few times.

he’s AWFUL around house. Like properly bad. Same with any domestic task really. He can be seen to be coping but struggled with all of this. Focuses on fun first… buying Oreo cookies because they had a character on but forgot dishwasher tabs we needed

OP, has he ever been evaluated for ADHD?

I think its a bit infantile. It’s up to people what they want to spend their time and money on but it seems very limiting.

Frankly when people have that level of obsession with anything, whether its Disney, hard rock or 19th century French romantic poetry I find it pretty dull.

To be fair, being into hard rock or Romantic poetry is way cooler than being into Disney.

Farrows1 · 16/08/2026 12:10

I guess in our 20s pre kids was different. We enjoyed holidays to Disney parks when we were in area as part of a larger holiday. Had more time and money to spend on hobbies etc.

now we are older and have responsibilities it has changed

His lack of awareness spills over into other areas. Eg our child has a medical condition and he Left all research and reading to me.

same with anything house related. We were still in our tiny starter house because he only ever wanted to spend on hobbies and was Never interested in moving, it just doesn’t interest him at all.

honestly there could be a nuclear war and he would have zero clue. ZERO.

YANBU to have the ick. However, YABU to have married and had kids with him in the first place. Poor kids.

Farrows1 · 16/08/2026 12:13

I’m not sure about adhd and autism. worth thinking about.

He has a lot of really bad traits as well as a few lovely ones. Good fun dad. Kids love him.

he seems to have picked up other obsessions too. He’s unable to like stuff a bit. He must be fully into the fandom. Disney is the longest standing one though. It’s costing a fortune.

Maybe I’m a bitch but whenever I meet a Disney adult I always wonder what happened to them as a child. Same with adults who are really into The Nightmare Before Christmas, that’s just the more edgy version I guess.

My kids loved the Nightmare Before Christmas. They watched Tim Burtons other films too. But now they think he is lazy and repetitive. They're still movie buffs and I can't follow their conversations half the time. But a narrow focus on children's cinema does seem a bit Peter Pan syndrome.

AnitaCam · 16/08/2026 12:14

Gosh, I had no idea adults would do this. It’s incredibly facile. Very sad.

timtamsarebetterthanpenguins · 16/08/2026 12:15

I'm going to be the one to say it but he sounds like he's neurodivergent and that Disney is his special interest.

Edit: seems like a few people got there before me!

Mooselander · 16/08/2026 12:17

In the words of Taylor Swift…

The worst kind of person is someone who makes someone feel bad, dumb, or stupid for being excited about something.

wizzywig · 16/08/2026 12:17

He has a diagnosis of asd?

You think someone who is clearly neurodivergent is "very sad"?

He must have given some indication of being like this before you married and had kids with him, though. So you are responsible for that.

timtamsarebetterthanpenguins · 16/08/2026 12:20

AnitaCam · 16/08/2026 12:19

Yes I do.

Well, that says a lot about you and none of it's good.

Farrows1 · 16/08/2026 12:20

When I say obsessed he does things like makes videos about tiny details of films… the outfits, the character development, story arc, he talks like a film expert too which really winds me up. I think lots of these things are over complicated. He is really obsessed with a particular female marvel superhero currently and keeps Posting loads about her growth and development etc and just over analysing. He will be really rude online if people disagree.

OP, every single one of your posts screams "autistic" and probably ADHD as well. It's very likely that his mum and grandparents are the same, and it's likely that your children may have inherited it too.

It may be useful to look at him through that lens, rather than trying to see him as neurotypical.

Your condemnation of me.. I hope you enjoyed it and it made you feel good about yourself. It means nothing at all to me.

Autism. It screams autism. Special interests cause hyper fixations.

topcat2014 · 16/08/2026 12:22

I really wanted a Mickey Mouse telephone as a child, and could see one in my house now (at 55) - even though no one rings it.

I could manage a day at a theme park (if someone else was paying), but other than that - not for me, as an adult.

Maybe one day there will be DGC and I will happily dip a toe in again.

OriginalUsername2 · 16/08/2026 12:22

Farrows1 · 16/08/2026 09:26

The form: being really into the films, making of etc, buying little figures, books, knowing all the facts, wanting to go on holiday there, watching you tubes about the park, encouraging our kids to like it.

it’s expanded of course to marvel items (also Disney owned) and that is also out of control possibly more so.

Autism. Not being funny.

No condemnation, just an observation.

Yes I do.

I assume by ‘sad’ you mean ‘not cool’. The thing is that ND people often aren’t aware of/don’t care about what is cool.

Farrows1 · 16/08/2026 12:24

Our son is autistic actually. Our other kids are not. I have mentioned to him before but he was insulted!
