Disney loving men

What are you thoughts on Disney loving men? It’s one of the things that contributed to my divorce I would say. Am I wrong here?

his obsession really got out of control in the end and it Really put me off. He was spending money on this hobby. A middle aged man tweeting about princess movies and obsessing over Mickey Mouse. He’s into other stuff that is similar but would be too outing to discuss. When he likes something he REALLY likes it.

we do have kids that show a moderate interest in Disney, I would say a normal level for kids. they are actually older and kinda moving away from it now anyway.

would this put you off? Or was I unreasonable?

The Disney contributed to our divorce. But the debt was a bigger issue. And also he was annoyed I wasn’t into his hobbies so found females that were if you get my drift. All hidden from me.

I had a friend years ago who was like this with HP. She visited the studios and HP world or whatever it is in Florida annually. She had glass cabinets full of merch. She was utterly obsessed by it. No idea whether she still is, we parted ways. I think it’s a form of arrested development.

Led here thinking you meant the sauce till it clicked 🤣

malefields · 16/08/2026 10:02

It doesn’t sound like Disney itself was the issue, but more so the obsession over it.

I love watching animations and still do so somewhat regularly, but I definitely wouldn’t consider myself a Disney adult or anything of the sorts.

Maybe I’m a bitch but whenever I meet a Disney adult I always wonder what happened to them as a child. Same with adults who are really into The Nightmare Before Christmas, that’s just the more edgy version I guess.

Same here. I always wonder what they lacked in childhood that they’re trying to make up for now.

The form: being really into the films, making of etc, buying little figures, books, knowing all the facts, wanting to go on holiday there, watching you tubes about the park, encouraging our kids to like it.

it’s expanded of course to marvel items (also Disney owned) and that is also out of control possibly more so.

He should apply for Mastermind as his specialist subject, if Mastermind is still around 😆

Nofeckingway · 16/08/2026 10:14

Sounds like you are well out of that marriage. The fact that it is a family thing is even better if you can have no contact with them . As for Disney thing , just yuck yuck yuck in an adult .

InterestedDad37 · 16/08/2026 10:15

(Scottish accent): It Disney sound very healthy 🙂

HollyHop2000 · 16/08/2026 10:15

Adults obsessed with Disney are a massive red flag to me. It's really odd and more often than not points to mental health issues.

Farrows1 · 16/08/2026 10:48

Well I’m quite reassured that it isn’t just me being snobby about hobbies! Loads of you agree that it is offputting. He definitely had a very odd upbringing. His mum is really strange and not a nice person. I always assumed she was unwell. His grand parents strange too, he act to act like a little prince around them. The best manners etc. which for a three year old is a bit strange.

😂😂😂
I would absolutely not be attracted to this kind of man.

IStillHearTheWaves · 16/08/2026 11:00

I think any hobbie that strays into obsession territory is unattractive.

I agree with all the PPs about his childhood. I remember liking the Disney films again in my mid to late teens and watching some of the old films (secretly on my room haha) and the anxiety of growing up was definitiely a part of that. Thinking about it, I've done this with other things periodically at times of stress or emotional volatility in my life, but it was never an obsession, more a guilty secret. One thing was rereading some old, beloved books from my tween years and another was collecting a particular childhood toy (the latter was during Covid). I do think there is a strong psychological reason behind it. I found a lot of comfort in rediscovering those things, they almost seemed to reconnect me with who I am at times I was feeling lost, but once the hard time was over, I moved on - sold the collection and put the books away for my DC.

Thepeopleversuswork · 16/08/2026 11:04

I think its a bit infantile. It’s up to people what they want to spend their time and money on but it seems very limiting.

Frankly when people have that level of obsession with anything, whether its Disney, hard rock or 19th century French romantic poetry I find it pretty dull.

NoLifeguardOnDuty · 16/08/2026 11:18

I know three adult women like this and they have so much random Disney stuff, blankets, figures, wear Disney clothes (mostly stitch) have stitch tattoos and drink out of Disney cups that look like they're for kids. I know two of them were abused as children and all have had social services involvement as adults.

Whosthetabbynow · 16/08/2026 11:22

Shouldn’t it be Disney-loving? Without the hyphen I took you to mean that Disney loves men

Boreded · 16/08/2026 11:25

Happy Disney Adult here, married to a Disney Adult. This morning the first thing he said to me was ‘so do you want to know about the announcements then’ as it was D23 live stream last night and so they had all of the park updates. Yesterday he did the same thing with the new movie announcements.

It is weird that you see it as such a problem, you should visit there (Florida) before being so judgemental about it

DistantEarlyWarning · 16/08/2026 11:37

Perhaps if he had been a competent adult his enjoyment of the escapism wouldn’t be so repellent.

I know several adult Disney, Marvel, Star Wars and HP fans, but it’s just one of their harmless hobbies and special interests alongside holding down responsible well-paid jobs and being solvent.

The Florida theme parks are great fun. My old head of department (very senior NHS manager) said that she had had a wonderful time. So much entertainment and the most complicated decision she had to make was where to eat lunch.

I agree with this. There's no harm in a competent and functional adult having a quirky interest. It's when it either becomes their whole identity or they can't function in an expected adult way and let others down that it becomes a problem.

Farrows1 · 16/08/2026 11:53

It literally turned off attraction in the end. Like it was a mental block. Honestly I think we both settled. We do great kids out of it.

he’s actually the most fun dad but he leaves a lot of crap to me to sort. As a result I’m bad cop.

Family of Disney's here!
My lovely Dad first took the entire family to Orlando in the 1990's My sister, husbands and kids. None of us wanted to go but now all have a passion for Disney. I am currently sitting below a large hand etching of 1960'S Mickey Mouse.
With all the crap going on in the world it seems a perfectly harmless diversion.

Farrows1 · 16/08/2026 11:58

One of the things that has bothered me lately is his lack of awareness of the news and politics. He literally will not know anything that is going on in the world. He has zero awareness.

yet he knows everything and I mean everything about films and Disney stuff. He will take up debates/argue with other random people online about tiny details in films.

ges also started a you tube channel that has completely grossed me out as he does weird faces on the thumbnails. Discussing fictional worlds and characters. Almost like they are real people

OP posts:
Farrows1 · 16/08/2026 12:01

His lack of awareness spills over into other areas. Eg our child has a medical condition and he Left all research and reading to me.

same with anything house related. We were still in our tiny starter house because he only ever wanted to spend on hobbies and was Never interested in moving, it just doesn’t interest him at all.

honestly there could be a nuclear war and he would have zero clue. ZERO.

it would give me the absolute pure and utter ick . I hate Disney as an adult

Waitingfordoggo · 16/08/2026 12:03

I wouldn’t want to spend my life with someone like that; we just wouldn’t be compatible at all.

Could he be neurodivergent though I wonder? I mean I still wouldn’t want to be with him because the behaviours would irritate me too much, but I just wondered if it might explain some of his behaviour?

Thundertoast · 16/08/2026 12:06

So im a big believer in that everyone should enjoy what they like, and i get a bit snappy if i see someone call other people's joys 'weird' because its just small minded stuff. The fact some people are super passionate about niche things is one of the really wonderful things in life.
Having said that, I know people who.like Disney, and ive met a few people who are 'Disney Adults'

  • as a side note, ive seen people describe ptehrs as 'Disney adults' simply because that person has been to Disney more than once without kids... that in my mind isnt really a 'Disney adult'.
But the 'Disney Adults' I have met, and this is just my experience, have all been very emotionally immature. However, im aware of this, and am mindful of not making assumptions because of it! Im sure there's loads of mature ones.

I thought maybe there was some news story about Walt having a secret gay life. 😂
