Disney loving men

What are you thoughts on Disney loving men? It’s one of the things that contributed to my divorce I would say. Am I wrong here?

his obsession really got out of control in the end and it Really put me off. He was spending money on this hobby. A middle aged man tweeting about princess movies and obsessing over Mickey Mouse. He’s into other stuff that is similar but would be too outing to discuss. When he likes something he REALLY likes it.

we do have kids that show a moderate interest in Disney, I would say a normal level for kids. they are actually older and kinda moving away from it now anyway.

would this put you off? Or was I unreasonable?

Not for me to dictate any adult’s hobbies or interests provided no one else is hurt. It would, however, cringe me the fuck out personally and I wouldn’t be remotely attracted to him.

CruCru · 16/08/2026 09:20

Honestly? It sounds as though you were incompatible. Was this a new obsession? It would have been easier to break up with him before you got married.

OnlyUsername · 16/08/2026 09:20

I don't know. It depends what form the interest took. My husband loves a Disney theme park and appreciates the films - we both recently saw Toy Story for example. But I think any adult being into Disney princesses is weird.

WineCharm · 16/08/2026 09:21

Completely weird and gross! I don't like Disney, at all, and a man liking it would put me so off. They have a reputation for being unsavoury (do your research) so I'd wonder why a man would be so into Disney. To me, it means the reputation is deserved.

lunar1 · 16/08/2026 09:25

You just weren't compatible, lots of people have random hobbies and interests.

Farrows1 · 16/08/2026 09:26

The form: being really into the films, making of etc, buying little figures, books, knowing all the facts, wanting to go on holiday there, watching you tubes about the park, encouraging our kids to like it.

it’s expanded of course to marvel items (also Disney owned) and that is also out of control possibly more so.

My male mid 50s boss is a Disney adult. He had an extremely unhappy childhood and struggles with interpersonal skills. I have my own theories on this…

Farrows1 · 16/08/2026 09:29

one thing he does is… if you are in a Disney film he likes. Eg the lady that plays Elsa in frozen, he will think you are a god. And won’t hear a bad word against you. He will watch all the other films that actor is in, follow them on Facebook, collect pictures for his screensavers, and just generally obsess about how great they are. Even if they watched previous films you were in and thought they were crap.

Truth be, I'd think I'd find any adult that into Disney a bit odd regardless of sex.

WhatNoRaisins · 16/08/2026 09:31

I've always said that I'm not a fan of anyone that makes one thing into their entire personality. I can see how this could have gone too far.

Sartre · 16/08/2026 09:31

I had a friend years ago who was like this with HP. She visited the studios and HP world or whatever it is in Florida annually. She had glass cabinets full of merch. She was utterly obsessed by it. No idea whether she still is, we parted ways. I think it’s a form of arrested development.

Coincidinki · 16/08/2026 09:31

My view with hobbies in a partner that I don't share, is they're fine up to a point but I draw the line at:

  • Having to rearrange other activities because the hobby comes first
  • Excessive money being spent on the hobby, i.e. if it means other things have to be compromised
  • The hobby taking priority over doing things as a couple
  • Any hobby at odds with my own values and principles

In a long term relationship, there has to be a reasonable overlap in your tastes and interests.

Incredulousaboutlife · 16/08/2026 09:32

I must say I've never understood the obsession with Disney. Yes I very much enjoyed, as did my DS , some of their films. But we never were interested in or bothered about the merchandising or the theme parks.

I could understand a man having a fondness for some of the Disney films from his childhood but anything other than that I would find extremely off putting.

Farrows1 · 16/08/2026 09:33

I found it really hard and I suppose the love just died. There were other reasons too but this contributed to the lack of affection and attraction etc in our relationship for sure.

Sounds like a clear case of arrested development to me.

tripleginandtonic · 16/08/2026 09:42

There are worse obsession. Not grounds for divorce though.

Whatonearthwoman · 16/08/2026 09:42

Id rather my partner was obsessed with disney and not porn or anything else that might come across as sleazy. Disney is quite harmless

ginasevern · 16/08/2026 09:45

Same here.

earlyshirley · 16/08/2026 09:47

I’d anyone with that level of obsession a bit weird no matter what it was but the fact that it’s a Disney obsession would give me the major ick.

BySunnyJadeEagle · 16/08/2026 09:47

I thought the days of judging people for liking 'childish' things were over tbh.

YouSawBrigadoon · 16/08/2026 09:47

Any adult, male or female that’s into Disney, is a weirdo.

Farrows1 · 16/08/2026 09:50

Ok I just read about arrested development and yes. I see so many things
childish outbursts and sulking
HATES negativity and confrontation (says grew up in house that had arguing)
oddball parents and even stranger grandparents (all of them obsess about various things and make it their entire personality)
awful with money (spends it all on hobbies) gets into debt
very very very naive and believes everything they read, sees good in everyone. Mother is a danger to herself at times.

he has a job but has struggled and he also gotten scammed a few times.

he’s AWFUL around house. Like properly bad. Same with any domestic task really. He can be seen to be coping but struggled with all of this. Focuses on fun first… buying Oreo cookies because they had a character on but forgot dishwasher tabs we needed

This isn’t about the hobby being Disney, it’s the obsession of it all. Definitely would put me off.

I thought my husband was bad with his fishing, but sounds like nothing compared to your ex.

Cityinthesummer01 · 16/08/2026 09:52

That’s definitely odd. I can’t think of any man I have ever known who would be into Disney.

I do know two young adult women who like adult Disney things eg pyjamas but they do have their difficulties and they are not as extreme as your partner.

GreenCaterpillarOnALeaf · 16/08/2026 09:52

Maybe I’m a bitch but whenever I meet a Disney adult I always wonder what happened to them as a child. Same with adults who are really into The Nightmare Before Christmas, that’s just the more edgy version I guess.
