You’ll need to be somewhere properly dark between 11pm and 4am (peak is at 3am).

We had a full face welders helmet so used that. Stood in the front garden looking like a right tit, but had a great view.

The cloud cover made it easier to see from here. I was looking through my phone and my 6yo went "mam I can look at the sun and my eyes are fine!" Despite being told not to look at it FFS 🤦

That's not a very nice way to speak to someone who has done absolutely nothing to you.

No, I made a pinhole camera from a Weetabix box and used that (DD ended up holding and looking at it for ages!). A stranger let me and DH look through their eclipse glasses and it's exactly the same as a pinhole camera. What did it look like when you (potentially) damaged your vision?

I accidentally did it. I went out to the garden and slightly caught it out the corner of my eye. My eye has felt weird since 😬

There was a guy in the news who used one of those in ‘99 and permanently damaged his eyes

I'm never risking my eyesight, it's far too precious. I have what is called narrow angles in my eyes, which means the pressure can build up if the angles close completely (called an angle closure attack). The angles help to drain away the optical fluid and if it isn't draining away, it can cause damage to the optic nerve from the pressure.

Since having had a taste of what optic nerve damage is before I had a laser iridotomy procedure, I value my sight especially more now.

I didn’t look much but we have loads of cloud cover and the only interesting bit was seeing the birds fly around totally confused so hopefully……,we’re all good here

I borrowed some people’s glasses. It was amazing!! The temptation to look before that was almost overwhelming but I didn’t give in. Been to eye A&E before and it’s scary

Pretty underwhelming. Went to the local park. The birds didn't care a bit and neither did passing dogs. The light barely changed. Most people just carried on chatting and few seemed to trying to look at it. 1999 was much more impressive.

We had glasses but I peeked. You really couldn't even tell without the glasses. Really cool with them though and fascinating how bright it still is even when the sun is mostly covered.

No not this time.
I did in 1999 and am wondering if that's why my eyes are so bad now.

I ordered glasses and watched it every 5 minutes and found it really exciting but I’m the mum that made my children get up at 6 am to go and see the Severn bore. They said the best bit was the breakfast at the service station afterwards!

I really enjoyed it. You definitely needed the glasses to see the moon cross the sun. Loved the change in the light. At one point the sun looked like a star like you see in the space photos because the light when really white against a quite dark background. The shadows were cool too.

I just stood still and blinked very slowly. Honestly that has the same effect.

Yep. Was telling dh last night how the oversold yet underwhelming 1999 event panned out as getting a bit dark then lighting up again around lunchtime.

This one didn't even live up to that.

It has to be a certain grade and it’s fine - 12 plus. I looked it up as I was thinking about getting a mask, but managed to get special delivery glasses from eBay.

I didn’t peek. Neither did I in 1999. We were in Cornwall so witnessed the total eclipse that time.

And anyone, who thought it would go completely dark, that’s not how it works. It only goes black in a total eclipse and rather dark at 95% plus. The sun is too powerful to make that much difference at 90%. It did get darker though, didn’t it? Part of the sky looked like a dull day and another part was bright sunshine here. Strange.

I bought eclipse glasses last week and spent a whole week telling 4yo DD that when the eclipse happens she absolutely must not take them off to look. Literally 7 days saying this to her.

Eclipse closes right in, she takes them off, stares at the sun and says "I can see the moon, mummy!" 🤦🏻‍♀️ So DD peeked, gargh! Hopefully it was only a couple of seconds but very frustrating after repeatedly telling her not to for DAYS!

I did feel a bit stupid now, I'm in the north west and there was thick cloud cover so you could see a hazy orb when the lower clouds parted but you couldn't really see any of the eclipse as the cloud cover just totally diffused the light. It didn't even get much darker just a bit of a weird colour to the light. Still kicking myself and feeling a bit anxious about it though.

I more than peeked looked up for ages before realising. If I dont report back tomorrow assume I'm blind.
