Disappointed Man GIF

Didnt know it was happening until yesterday

Broke until payday - cannot buy the glasses

Autistic 7yo will not understand nor care

Will just stick it on the telly and call it a day

Have LOVED saying 'full moon, half moon, total eclipse' to myself though 😄😩

Oo good point

I think mine is hiding under the table due to the heat anyway

My cat has been hot and inside too. Tomorrow will be hell for her.

We don’t have the glasses and I’m not arsing about making a blue Peter creation out of tin foil and cardboard but I’m going out later with friends and we’ll be outside so able to appreciate it. Ds is joining dd and her boyfriend who are going on a picnic to a great local viewing point for things like this.
dh will be at home probably cooking himself some dinner, he wants to see how our chickens will react 😂

Did the chickens do anything? 👀

There are people crying on the TV? They got emotional?
It was all just a bit shit really in my corner of the east midlands.

Can it only be viewed through a tiny hole?

Sorry, a bit late. No, the pinhole let's the light through and forms and image at the back of the box, and you view it in the window around 5cm*5cm that you cut on the right side of the box

GasPanic · Today 19:25

hotmumshit · Today 19:16

So its over then?

All that happened was it got a bit darker than usual?!

That would be a reasonable summary.

Slugfest · Today 19:25

Why do people scream when watching an eclipse? It is really annoying.

Lunalara · Today 19:25

My boyfriend is on holiday in the Lake District and the photo was gorgeous. Looked like it came from a Halloween movie.

Me in Kent and while there were no clouds, the sky only went a slightly darker shade of blue. Just looked like how it normally does before it starts to go dark.

Probably after they realised the money they had spent on eclipse glasses.

People love all this. I said to dh we should go to Gib next year to see one and was met by ‘ meh ‘

He doesn’t want to renew our vows under a total eclipse of the sun. Or pay for it

Do you have a spare cereal packet (or similar cardboard box? And kitchen foil?

Line the inside base with white paper (an envelope would probably do) and cut two squares out of the lid end (you will look through to the base from one and the other will accommodate the pinhole).

Stick/sellotape the lid shut and cover one hole with foil (tape it down). Get a pin or needle and make a tiny hole in the foil.

You should then be able to angle the box at the sun to project onto the white end of the inside of the box.

Yay, a quick redo and we managed it. Have been like a bunch of nerds pottering abround the garden, chatting to the neighbours (sporting the collander method) and then wandering up the road outside for better sun… it was almost like the clap for the NHS nights during covid, only new neighbours and old mingling with their pinhole cameras LOL

I don’t know what to do (I’m always in the dark)

Very good 🤣👏

PuggyPuggyPuggy · Today 19:37

What do you mean by skip? The sun is everywhere, you can hardly stick your head out of the window and shout "not today, thank you" in the general direction of the sun.

Anyway, never mind eclipse, I just went outside to find a hummingbird hawkmoth in my garden 😁

(Good job I checked before posting, I accidentally wrote bummingbird 😂)

the80sweregreat · Today 19:38

Clap for the sun and the moon. At least they do their thing each time and don’t worry about the consequences of their actions.

Who said romance is dead ?

OriginalUsername2 · Today 19:41

Underwhelming here in SE, not helped by having no special glasses so we just experienced feeling like it was about to rain for 5 minutes. Just watched the view from Spain on telly, that looked amazing!

the80sweregreat · Today 19:41

Gas panic, my dh ! He said it’s all a non event. Not sure if he was expecting fireworks , but he was unimpressed all round. I like the fact it was colder

Mespher · Today 19:42

There was quite a gathering outside our house we kept passing the one pair of glasses round and we could see it well on DH camera with zoom and solar filter

the80sweregreat · Today 19:42

I think it’s amazing myself.
Even if the colender didn’t work that well. Lol

Mokel · Today 19:44

Barcelona and Palma de Mallorca had total eclipses

OlderGlaswegianLivingInDevon · Today 19:48

Ah well I dutifully closed all the curtains / blinds on the sun's side of the house, just incase - why would I not be responsible for my cats' eyes :)

and walked the dogs up the local field - the sun was behind some trees and if it's happened it's happened never got dark here it's just like an early sunset...

I suppose there will be wonderful photos on social media later...

the80sweregreat · Today 19:50

It’s a celestial event. Dh sat there as if England had lost the world cup 3/0.

the80sweregreat · Today 19:50

Now , bring on the rain !

JustPlainStanfreyPock · Today 19:51

Cloudy here so just seemed like it was about to rain...

browneyes77 · Today 19:55

I didn’t have any glasses and couldn’t be arsed to fanny about making some cardboard thingymajig.

Plus I’d taken my bra off and couldn’t be bothered to put it back on to go outside.
