Butt on display at lunch in south of France

flipperfizz · 11/08/2026 13:32

I am currently having lunch in a beach restaurant and a girl with a lovely toned body is wearing a tiny thong with full ass on display. This seems to be a fashion thing and there are lots of women wearing the same cheese cutter! People are staring and some women are laughing. I find it a horrible trend and I am wondering what others think.

You have gone to the South of France and you are surprised that somebody is wearing a thong on the beach?

Viperregency · 11/08/2026 14:48

Women looking at her and laughing is appalling, it smacks of jealousy . Some women never leave tbe playground and handle their jealousu]y badly and it only reflects on them,

as much as I think cover up also, I do not approve of mocking other women,

AMurderofMurderingCrows · 11/08/2026 14:41

So she was in the restaurant with just a thong on - no bikini top? (well until she put it on standing up...)

You get she’s on the beach right,

Allseeingallknowing · 11/08/2026 14:32

Pretty hard to avoid staring at that sight!

It’s really not!!!

I managed to live in Europe for years and me and my friends to both wear thong bottoms only and see others wear them without staring or judging.

It honestly says much more about the one looking and making internet posts about it.

Digerydont · 11/08/2026 14:50

Ooh la la.

Disturbia81 · 11/08/2026 14:51

Tollington · 11/08/2026 14:45

If she’s got the body to pull it off then fair play to her

Anyone can wear anything.

Wreckinball · 11/08/2026 14:57

It is tacky - we had this on the sunbeds next to us, the most amount of stretching, preening, readjusting, hair flinging, more suncream, mirrors, get up and move the chair agin and stretch over the other side for something- jiggling her butt. It was sad but amusing and more so one after noon when her tampax string was dangling down.
do what you want on your sun bed but in a cafe put something between your arse and the chair someone else has to sit on

FancyBiscuitsLevel · 11/08/2026 14:59

@flipperfizz- only info that matters - were other people in swimwear as well, or was she the only one?

If other people were in swimwear, then the size of her bikini bottoms was irrelevant, it was ok. On the other hand, if everyone else was wearing something over the top of their swimwear, then again the size of her bikini bottoms was irrelevant, even if she’d been in full pants, it would be inappropriate.

im currently at an Italian beach, no women has a fully covered arse on the beach. It’s just the odd English women with a one piece on. Seems bikini bottoms have shrunk this year. Even the Italian grandmas are rocking “cheeky bum” cut bottoms.

There needs to be a line drawn somewhere because otherwise we get those fetishists thinking it's ok to be out and about too. Seeing anyone's bare butts or tops when I'm eating would put me off lunch.

There’s definitely a line drawn- between the cheeks, apparently!

People watching is fascinating, and everyone does it!

Neuronimo · 11/08/2026 15:01

YANBU What has happened to a nice sarong?

FancyBiscuitsLevel · 11/08/2026 15:02

MyDarlingRose · 11/08/2026 14:23

Of course I remember. I am only 31. But people didn’t wear them at work last time I checked

I also remember the whale tail thing look and being older than you I did wear it, and yes, friends who were waiting staff did wear that look to work (if they didn’t have a uniform!)

Allseeingallknowing · 11/08/2026 15:01

People watching - yes!

I'm as guilty as the next person.

But this isn't people watching - it’s judging a woman for her choice of bikini bottoms.

malefields · 11/08/2026 15:04

It’s a beach restaurant so it’s fine. The size of her bikini is no one’s business, really.

Victorius19 · 11/08/2026 15:05

I miss the old days when bikinis and swimsuits actually covered up people's bottoms. When I went swimming last, I thought it was grim that people were sitting on the steps/edge of the pool with their bare uncovered backsides.

Agreed.

In fact I don't agree with mocking anyone on the beach.

If the OP was 'just having a bit of fun' about an obese woman's choice of swimwear and her arse cheeks being on a seat because they were falling out the back of her swimsuit, MN would go into meltdown and the thread would be deleted.

'Not in the spirit of the site' is what I believe MNHQ would call it.

malware · 11/08/2026 15:06

But why does she keep bending down? I suspect it might be a "cherchez l'homme" situation here.

malefields · 11/08/2026 15:06

Disturbia81 · 11/08/2026 14:30

Are men less pervy there?

Unless something changed recently topless was really common. I’m sure there’s the odd perv looking but pervs will perv at anything.

Trust me I’m not jealous, I’m not judging either. It was merely an observation and my husband and I were chatting about it. To be honest they look quite painful to wear, and I have done my topless bit years ago. I’m older now and I couldn’t care less.

If you’ve been topless yourself why are you commenting on a thong?

I’m sure you can decide what you think without the internet’s support. I assume the restaurant wouldn’t have seated her if it contravened the dress code.

🙄The OP has already stated "what she thinks" she's put it out for conversation to hear other people's views.

I'm with you OP and if it isn't against the restaurant's clothing policy it should be. Save it for the beach if you must but cover up elsewhere please.

You have the internet to thank for this horrible trend. I think it looks awful even on women with the most perfect bodies.

IMO it’s borderline pornographic (no doubt I’ll be accused of “clutching my pearls”, which I’m not).

I have teenage daughters and I hate that girls of this age feel that a thong bikini is normal because they see it all over instagram/Tiktok and now real life.

Yogaandchocolate · 11/08/2026 15:14

5128gap · 11/08/2026 14:00

If its a trend that a lot of women are following, i don't know what people are laughing at, as surely they're seeing it as often as you are?

Not just women - there was a man at my gym’s pool in thong speedos this weekend
