I am currently having lunch in a beach restaurant and a girl with a lovely toned body is wearing a tiny thong with full ass on display. This seems to be a fashion thing and there are lots of women wearing the same cheese cutter! People are staring and some women are laughing. I find it a horrible trend and I am wondering what others think.

She keeps getting up, walking over and bending over in your face? Are sitting right next to an extremely low buffet table?

Ha ha no, but the chairs are sinking into the sand! So I do mean at eye level. She also managed to put her bikini top on whilst standing up.

I thought that this was going to be about men wearing baggy trousers that fall down and show their bums.

Swimwear is fine at the pool or the beach. Other than that cover up.

Imo yabu, its a beach restaurant, its swimwear and presumably thats allowed. Everyone has opinions on skimpy clothing for for me its just a bikini, just a butt and its beachwear, just dont look if it offends you. Opinions aside, its up to the restaurant owners - many beach restaurants insist on cover ups if sitting in, if this one doesnt - or doesnt enforce it - thats their choice.

Seriously, I always prefer fabric, not skin, on furniture. I'd never go on a bus/to a meal etc without covering the bits that touch things. But some people might say they sweat through it and not care about the difference.

Trust me I’m not jealous, I’m not judging either. It was merely an observation and my husband and I were chatting about it. To be honest they look quite painful to wear, and I have done my topless bit years ago. I’m older now and I couldn’t care less.

agree it’s hideous. It’s definitely not acceptable to go to lunch in a thong. I’m surprised the restaurant hasn’t asked her to leave..! Most French people would be super offended by this in a restaurant tbh. People really underestimate the reserved dress sense of the French - anything ‘out there’ or really dressed up they think is super vulgar. My friend came over for my birthday here and we went out out - she wore a red jumpsuit that was lovely (by British standards) with a lot of cleavage and several people asked her if she was a hooker at the club. I am not joking!! Luckily she has a good sense of humour. In the UK people wouldn’t look twice but honestly here they dress like they’re going to a casual funeral and that’s dressy!!!

Okay, I shall rephrase. Normal in the part of the South I lived in. South of France is a huge area!

Thongs are quite common in most of Europe as is going topless (although the latter not at an eatery!)

Beach bars etc often allow swimwear dress.

Off the beach usually require t shirts for men and woman and a sarong at least for woman.

Having spent a good proportion of my late teens and 20’s living and working in Europe this wouldn’t cause me any reaction.

Id want to say something to the nasty onlookers laughing and judging though.

I thought the French were getting stricter about this. On the beach is fine, anywhere else put it away love. Applies to men as well as women.
