5th date last night, ended up back at mine and had sex. Have really enjoyed his company and green flags galore up to that point so it felt natural. This morning, he text to say how much he enjoyed last night and wants to see me again (he suggested a date idea). I replied agreeing and discussing potential dates which work. He then referred to last night and said ‘shame its not Cheltenham racing this time of the year as you would be a great jockey’. I played dumb and asked what he meant, he said he was just joking. Is that an acceptable joke for you because it feels a bit seedy for my liking?! But I do think a lot of him from dates so far.

It wasn't a positive comment. It was a singling out, objectifying, joke about her performance. He should have left it with saying he had really enjoyed their night.

Mortified doesn't imply very strong feelings, and it is neither here or there how I would feel as I am not the OP, who has in any case decided to end it with this man as she feels uncomfortable getting this message.

I find it sad if a woman doesn't understand or value a more romantic approach from a man. There is nothing romantic or passionate about that message. He sounds like a gurning oaf.

Exactly. It was grim and I would end it too.

Don’t overthink it. It’s a lousy joke but if everything else is fine why make this one thing a dealbreaker. If this is the sort of thing that would end a relationship then any long term relationship is doomed …with anyone!

I don't agree at all.

If the sexual nature of his texts isn't what the OP finds acceptable, then she needs to either tell him to stop or dump him?

Not everyone finds that type of 'humour' acceptable, especially in a very new relationship.

It's juvenile and crass imo, and apparently in the OP's opinion too, as it would definitely give me the 'ick' instantly too.

For the record, I've been married twice (still happily married 20yrs to 2nd H), and neither H ever made crude or misogynistic 'jokes'.

He will find someone else who enjoys that sort of comment I’m sure, but that person isn’t me.

Know your worth, ladies x

Treating other people poorly isn't "knowing your worth". Really shitty behaviour on your part so just own it.

The poor man wanted to let you know he's interested in a stable relationship but it just came out all wrong!!

Very good

Good grief.

I'd say that "use your words" is a more useful aphorism here but you do you.

Thanks all. I know it might be seen as me over reacting but I’m going to end it. I’ve got the ick from the comment.

Definitely overrating.

Why is it shitty to decide that she didn't like the comment & doesn't want to see him again?

At least he didn't say he couldn't wait for another roll in the hay.

I genuinelyu find it hilarious when someone takes this much offence at a particular phrase and then turns around and with no hint of irony uses "got the ick" as an adult. Does it not feel embarrassing to type those words.

gannett · 10/08/2026 14:38

I'd also say that there are plenty of crass sexual comments I'd dislike - there was a thread recently where a man referred to breasts as "milk cartons" and I think it might haunt me forever - but horseriding is such a common metaphor, and this was so obviously a compliment referring to something we'd both enjoyed that at worst I would roll my eyes. I can't really fathom going from 100 (riding his dick enthusiastically) to zero (dumping him because I was reminded that I rode his dick enthusiastically) just like that.

But whatever - do what you want OP! Let someone else have all the green flags and the rideable dick.

It’ll be interesting to see how he handles rejection. Will he be mature about it?

I didn’t think the comment was too bad, but a woman can end it with a man for any reason, so you’ve done nothing wrong, OP.

Imdunfer · 10/08/2026 14:40

SuePer · 10/08/2026 13:23

' A pg lovemaking session' are you the op's unfortunate dp?! Confused

Sex is great as is talking about it. Comparing it to horseriding is just odd and so very unsexy I'd be surprised if he ever got another go tbh.

"riding" whether bicycles or horses, is a common euphemism for sex. Usually an insult to the woman when it's a bike, but "she rode him" is normal for woman on top sex. It's pretty obvious why. Straddling the man, action very like rising trot or rising canter.

Cheltenham is a top class racing meet, one of the highlights of the jump racing calendar. If the guy is into jump racing it was a big compliment.

Wasn’t it milk tankers? God, that was vile!

I think half of this thread would have conniptions if they encountered the Irish slang meaning of 'ride' in real life Grin

Probably not as embarrassing as it feels trying to belittle a stranger on the internet.

Or "the village bike".

No, 'village bike' is an awful misogynistic phrase and it's only ever directed at women. I'd be offended if I heard that. 'Ride' in Ireland, e.g. 'he's an absolute ride', doesn't have the same unpleasant connotations.

Yes I meant the thread seemed unaware of"riding"used to describe sex. It's an awful insult, that phrase.

diddl · 10/08/2026 15:01

I only became aware of ride meaning sex when I watched Derry Girls.

Although I had heard of "village bike" many years ago I hadn't made the connection of being ridden specifically, more available for anyone that wanted😊

A ten speed ride.

It's a childish phrase to start with and at this point in 2026 it's such an overused, meaningless cliche.
