5th date last night, ended up back at mine and had sex. Have really enjoyed his company and green flags galore up to that point so it felt natural. This morning, he text to say how much he enjoyed last night and wants to see me again (he suggested a date idea). I replied agreeing and discussing potential dates which work. He then referred to last night and said ‘shame its not Cheltenham racing this time of the year as you would be a great jockey’. I played dumb and asked what he meant, he said he was just joking. Is that an acceptable joke for you because it feels a bit seedy for my liking?! But I do think a lot of him from dates so far.

You need to be careful. If someone finds out you let him make this joke, you’ll never be able to be naice ham in Waitrose again 😢

Peachsandcream · 10/08/2026 10:03

He was complimenting you in a jokey way, I wouldn’t look much further into it seeing as you enjoyed his company

89redballoons · 10/08/2026 10:07

Wouldn't be a deal breaker for me, but doesn't seem funny unless maybe it's in context - for example if your next date was somewhere near Cheltenham, or some other kind of racing event or something?

Isittimeformynapyet · 10/08/2026 10:09

I'd have said "careful Shergar - this filly will refuse at the second jump with jokes like that!"

EgregiouslyOverdressed · 10/08/2026 10:10

It's a good-natured joke and it wouldn't bother me in the slightest but I can't tell you what your boundaries are. If it bothers you, it bothers you, and you should tell him. His reaction will tell you everything you need to know but don't be surprised if his immediate response is bafflement.

Loulou4022 · 10/08/2026 10:13

Depends on your sense of humour. DH and I’s relationship thrives on humour so if he said something like that I’d start jumping around the kitchen pretending to be a jockey!

Disturbia81 · 09/08/2026 21:31

He’s saying you were great in bed

Yeah agree with this.

I think he means that but he doesn't have a great sense humour because of the way the joke sounds.

Personally I'm an over thinker so wouldn't say anything, just incase its interpreted as odd.
However persons been brave enough to say it.
I would on this occasion look at his character and personality as a whole before jumping to conclusions.
If it happens again and you don't like the sentences/ jokes he comes up with, then let him go.

SoBoredOfSelfDoubtHowToGetOut · 10/08/2026 10:21

Crap joke but not worth binning someone over. Unless his humour is always shit.

Autumngirl5 · 09/08/2026 23:48

Yuk! That makes me cringe and would be a deal breaker for me.

Same. I'm not sure why I find it so objectionable but I do. It just feels a bit disrespectful

WallyHilloughby · 10/08/2026 10:24

People act so prudish on here ffs. If you are mature enough to have sex with someone surely you can accept the other person may actually enjoy it

I suppose the question then is - is there a way that a new partner could give either of you a compliment about how good you were in bed the night before that would not feel disrespectful? It helps to distil whether the objection is to the message or to the mode of delivery.

YorksMa · 10/08/2026 10:27

I'm obviously against the grain here as I'd have just laughed and taken the compliment. Giddyup.

Lighten up, why are people so easily offended on this site. Jeez it was a compliment/crap joke.

tastytea · 10/08/2026 10:36

I don't think the OP needed it explaining that he thought she was a good ride! She said she was just playing dumb.

Maybe if you didn't like it OP you could just reply 'Neigh'.

Blackbird2409 · 10/08/2026 10:37

This wouldn’t bother me at all. It’s a compliment. Much better to have someone who is open to discussing your sex life and has a sense of humour.

IonianNerveGrip · 10/08/2026 10:45

Bit cringe but wouldn't really think much of it.

This doesn't mean saying it in a coarse manner. A mature person expresses their delight in the moment, not some graphic feedback assessment.

diddl · 10/08/2026 10:54

For me it's a shame he couldn't just have left it as having really enjoyed the night & wanting to see you again.

Is he likely to start introducing you as "Arsenal25, who rode me like a jockey at Cheltenham the first time we had sex"?

Its all very well asking how we would react, but if it has put YOU off or given YOU the ick, you would be unwise to ignore your gut imo.

Imdunfer · 10/08/2026 11:02

comofn · 10/08/2026 09:31

yes! Saying she’s good at riding. Lighten up love

I'm not your love and if I and that comment got any lighter I'd be bumping the ceiling like the insurance comparison website advert.

InterestedDad37 · 10/08/2026 11:05

Bit of a crap joke really, unless you'd talked about horse racing, or Cheltenham 🤔 in which case it's mildly amusing, at best.
Tell him the going was rough, and next time you'll use a riding crop.

Millytante · 10/08/2026 11:12

ImpatientlyWaitingForSummer · 09/08/2026 21:38

This is exactly what I thought too, I’d probably read it and roll my eyes (but still chuckle in a cringe way), it wouldn’t be a deal breaker for me at all

Also, maybe he really wanted to say something bordering on affectionate now the deed is done, but can’t very well declare love, so that remark seemed to him to be an enthusiastic, general purpose ‘thumbs up’ to him?
Clumsy, but worth permitting at least until another date, during which his habitual degree of boorishness (if present at all) should be monitored.
He may be coarse and superficial; he may be a slightly rough diamond. The latter is worth exploration!

sweetpickle2 · 10/08/2026 11:13

It's a bit naff but you literally just slept together and it's obviously still on his mind- if he can't make reference to it now when can he?

It wouldn't be a deal breaker for me, personally.

The obvious question though... was he hung like a horse?

TheOnlyWayIsIlford · 10/08/2026 11:14

It’s hard to think of something being seedy when it refers to actual sex that you had.

Bit cringey as a joke…. I’d reply ‘luckily you are better in bed than you are at jokes’.

But if he often, or continues, to make bad jokes that might put you off him.
