Well, my story is pretty scandalous. I’m from Indian heritage … a cousin I had not seen for years invited by my family to my wedding - she wore her bloody wedding outfit her glam reception - red outfit - all her freaking jewellery I mean Wtaf and I’m still not over it and it’s been 17 years

I'm confused. Is there something wrong with wearing a red dress and jewelry to a wedding?

She wore her wedding dress to her cousins wedding!!!

Oh dear, I wore red to my brother's wedding 45 years ago. To be fair we had probably slept in the same bed at some stage, but not since we were about 3 and 4.

did you not understand the Indian wedding part?!! Red is the colour they wear instead of white for wedding dresses

Thats the one.

Was that written by the people who sell wedding dresses ?

Yes, I understood perfectly thank you. Other posters were saying that wearing red to a western wedding means you have slept with the groom.

I worked a celeb wedding once, circa 2009. A singer and a footballer. The brides mother wasn’t a fan of the groom and decided as a protest to go and have a bath in the bridal suite a few minutes before the service was due to start and she stayed there a long time! The couple did divorce after due to his cheating.

I have also been a wedding crasher. At a spa weekend and had a few too many cocktails. Walking round the hotel and hear the music, having a whale of a time with my mates dancing with guests, but the bride didn’t see the funny side. I bolted but my friend stayed and had a full on row with the bride about we didn’t mean any harm 😬 mortifying!

Too outing but when I got married the hotel didn’t tell us the rest of the large hotel had been booked out by a certain religious group which included some celebs who were there for their annual convention. Very weird!

I'm voting Ashley Cole and Cheryl many surnames over time.

LumpkinPumpkin · Yesterday 16:31

My cousin wore a jumpsuit so tight that you could literally see her labia minora. It didn’t bother me but it looked bloody uncomfortable and lots of people commented on it! 🤣

And was it Scientology?

Confirm Scientology.
Can confirm wasn’t the Cole’s.

Although they do have their massive compound in East Grinstead, so surprising that they'd use somewhere else. I can't think of anything else that'd qualify for the description though.

This was only a 'scandal' of sorts for me personally! But last year I began dating a woman who had nagged me for months to date her, I was happily single but I did like her and she seemed very keen, we talked a lot (we were part of a wider friendship group) and I talked myself into it, telling myself I was being silly, perhaps she was right and we could work up to something very good.

One of the first conversations we ever had, she'd mentioned that her little sister was to be married soon, she was the MOH and she didn't have anyone to take as a plus one. I didn't think much of it at the time but said I hoped she found one and she asked (jokingly so I thought) if I would be it. I barely knew her at the time. Anyway after we started dating naturally I agreed to be.

Turns out, that's literally ALL she wanted me for. The rest was all lies. I found out from the grapevine that she has form for this and as I am 'easy on the eye' (apparently) and good company she thought I'd be ideal. She turned cold on me days following the wedding, started changing her attitude toward me, picking me up on very small things and making them into arguments then dumped me around 10 days later...
Madness. And made me much more wary of who I believe/when to listen to my instincts!

ETA(I am a gay woman)!

Edited

Omg !!! What a fucking bitch….. hope you’ve met much nicer women since her !! X

Father of the bride spend his speech discussing his divorce and father of the groom (alcoholic) was paralytically drunk and had to be removed by some relatives. Mother of the groom gave the bride a huge dressing down in the middle of the reception over their inadequate hotel room ...the family fallout afterwards was awful.

The couple are no longer married...

RafaFan · Yesterday 16:47

This is fairly tame compared to some stories on here, but it's stuck with me over 25 years later.

Fairly large wedding reception, probably 100+ guests. At the end of the meal, just after the speeches, the bride's sister (also a bridesmaid), by this time quite well refreshed, grabs the microphone and announces that her purse, with a substantial sum of money in it, has been stolen out of her bag, and nobody's going anywhere and there'll be no band and no dancing etc. until it's returned.

Of course, nothing happened, and the purse didn't miraculously appear. There was a 5 minute stand off where everyone just sat there while the sister occasionally harangued us. It ended when the groom's brother, who was sitting at our table, went up to her and said he would personally give her the cash amount if she would just shut up, and asked the band to start playing. Luckily it didn't derail the whole reception.

We found out later the missing purse was found...in the sister's hotel room. It had never been in her bag in the first place.

SIL (dhs brothers wife) wore black to our wedding. Fucking bitch. There's lots of other rude stuff they have done and how they have treated me so I don't see them anymore.

An American friend who lived in Europe married someone from that country. They had one wedding in each country. The MIL of my friend recounted a traditional myth about son who tore apart his mother’s heart and that his mother still forgave him. At the American one, she wore her wedding dress when she walked her son down the aisle. Then made a speech at the dinner about how the Americans ancestors were cowards and how her ancestors were superior. They got divorced 2 years later.

Holy shit! How embarrassing for her.

Caniweartheseones · Yesterday 17:09

Oh I remembered a really embarrassing one- my friend got married and her dad hadn’t prepared a speech at all but held forth for ages talking about how he wishes she was more like me- from birth. It was so awful. We never spoke about it and I wanted the ground to swallow me. I’ve also avoided her dad ever since.

InAnyOtherLife · Yesterday 17:25

I was at one where the groom's sister wore an actual wedding dress. It was off the peg from Monsoon, but it was unmistakeably a wedding gown, it had lace and a train and everything!

We had two people turn up to the sit down reception who had not been invited, nor catered for nor on the seating plan. They shoved themselves onto a table and ate and drank plenty. Bless them :(
I also heard my cousin ask a member of the wait staff if he 'wanted to come outside and say that mate '

Crikey, I thought it was bad enough when the parents of one of my guests just “happened” to decide to go for a drink in the public bar at the evening reception venue of my wedding, then decided they would just come in and say hello before casually wandering over to the buffet table and helping themselves.

Boy, her mother sure could pack away those vol au vents!

SlightlyTerrifiedButPolite · Yesterday 17:46

My friend and her husband were guests at a wedding (friends of the bride). Part way through he took his ring off and went outside and took one of the bride’s friends numbers, told her he was single and KISSED HER

Was it definitely a “I’m in mourning” statement? Because a friend of mine says she always wears black to weddings as it suits her and it’s not intended to offend (although knowing people could take offence makes it a bit insensitive imo). I do know someone whose MIL wore black to their wedding and that definitely seemed to be a comment! 😬

One of my friends went to a wedding where the bride wanted all the men in kilts to dance to 'you can leave your hat on' from the full monty then lift their kilts to show their willy's. Friends DH declined and she was furious.

Only one bloke objected to this?!
