AIBU to worry about taking enough sunscreen in cabin luggage?

I've never been overseas before.
Going to Greece in 2 days with 2 little DC.
Easyjet.
We are taking cabin luggage only.
100mls restriction for any lotions.
I am really worried about sunscreen for DC.
What do people do?? I00mls sunscreen wont last 2 weeks for both DC, as I'm planning on smothering them in it every couple of hours and every time they get out of sea.
I've been told it's twice the price or poor quality to buy in Crete.
Can i buy it at Gatwick or will they ban me from taking it on the plane?

For those suggesting buying stuff after security I assume you have to have room in your small bag to put them in. Some airlines don’t allow any extra bags apart from the small carry on one

All airlines allow airport shopping bags.

They tried that nonsense and the airport shops made it clear people were allowed to take things they'd bought in the shops on the plane.

OP I always try to do cabin bags only and aside from anything super specialist I always just get toiletries wherever I'm going. I've bought sun lotion in lots of places in Greece without any issue, and the quality is the same.

I only take cabin bags. Is there a lidl nearby, I buy all my suncream abroad in Lidl or Aldi. Or a boots click and collect x

Earlier today, I posted that I found kids’ sunscreen for €11.25 in Crete, nearly 4 quid less than in Boots.

I got my Nivea, just last week in Greece, for €10.70!

I also noticed on our way there that Nivea and Piz Buin were both under a tenner in Manchester airport Boots!

At Gatwick liquid checks are done by security (airport staff) not by the airline. EasyJet won’t check this. They might check the size and weight of your bag, so just make sure any suncream doesn’t push you over the relevant limit (but I think EasyJet allows 15kg for a large cabin bag and 15kg for small backpack so there should be plenty of weight limit available).
We did 4 weeks overseas with 2 little DC and 1 hand luggage each. Everyone telling you this is a bad idea clearly has never had to trek through London on public transport, up and down stairs etc with little kids, prams and suitcases. Carryon size is essential for us (two are backpacks) and i find it far easier to have less stuff when traveling, (especially if you stay in more than one place so are packing and unpacking for 4)!

So what I've learnt from this thread is the 100ml restriction at Gatwick has been ditched, which has solved my predicament all in one go. I'm so glad I posted here because I had no idea about this restriction being lifted; I was going entirely by what easyjet had emailed me. Perfect. I'll now take ordinary sized bottles of sunscreen lotion with me. Thanks to the many posters who have told me!
And I'm happy to learn from posters here saying sunscreen is decent to buy in Greece; I was reading yesterday through a Facebook page about Greece which had people warning others not to buy it out there.
I had never heard of P20 sunscreen. Thanks for this! Ordered and arriving tomorrow.
Thanks to those who have pointed out about extra skin protection but I'm taking a selection of SPF 50 rash vests, shorts, all in ones with long sleeves, hats, etc. for DC.

Tbf I think people are just making suggestions about the cabin/hold bag situation as your original OP said you hadn't been abroad before with kids and those of us who have just wanted to suggest that costs of stuff you will need to buy can really add up... more than the costs of one hold bag. That's all. You will need lots of sunscreen but I would put kids in UV tops. Have fun.

Probably because you've never flown before and have said you're hand luggage only. But that means different things with different airlines, some of the standard allowances are very small and the penalties for getting it wrong are huge, hundreds of pounds. So people are making sure you've already paid for the larger cabin bags that surely you'd need for a 2 week holiday.

OP - you can buy it after security. But the liquids restrictions are determined by the airport, not the plane - so the 100ml rule will only apply if the airport says so. It’s only what is allowed through security that is the issue.

Edited to add: sorry, I read all your posts but missed the last one, which makes this one redundant. I noticed you mentioned P20, I’d also mention Ultrasun for longer protection without needing to constantly reapply. Just make sure you put it on around 30 minutes before going out in the sun. More expensive. But you use less. It’s seen me through some very hot pool/beach holidays (including Greece) and it comes in a 400ml size (if Gatwick allows) which is handy for families.

You said you’ve never flown or been overseas before.

Then you announce that you’re only taking cabin luggage on your first ever foreign trip - a 2 week family holiday (something few would do) and that you’re worried about accessing suncream at your EU destination.

None of this makes it sound like you know what you’re doing. Perfectly reasonable and helpful in the circumstances for more seasoned travellers to suggest you book hold luggage, I think.

Because it not just about suncream. What are your children going to do for 2 weeks without you being able to bring any toys or books? Yes there’s pool and beach but honestly it’s going to be so hot in the middle of the day youre going to have to have a break back in your room. And Theyll want toys for the pool and beach.

There are many Lidls in Greece. Its not expensive, its one of the most affordable and cheapest in chains in Greece.

Those rules will be to cover all the airports they use. The 100 ml rule is still in place at Manchester for example.

I always take our full brand as when we were in Spain years ago the shops did not stock high factor. Head for Boots when you’re through security and get what you need and shove it in the carry ons.

Don’t forget kids’ medication that they usually have.

Yes the liquid rule has lifted. We’ve always just taken cabin bags (plus small rucksack) for holidays unless skiing. It’s easy, lots to wear and I hate having loads of stuff - so burdensome.
For a week we travel with a small rucksack each and one cabin bag between the two children. All clothes small in the summer.

You will be able to buy good quality sunscreen in Greek supermarkets. What you need to be wary of is street vendors who fill up old sunscreen bottles with cheap moisturiser and pretend it’s sunscreen.

But, as above, just buy it at the airport.

We sometimes use my boots advantage card points to buy some in the airport going out, becuase when your through security you can then take new 200ml bottles on the plane. Alternatively they are available in the shops abroad

This may have been said already and maybe you’re already planning to do that, but putting the kids in rash vests and long swim shorts will take care of most of the areas that need sunscreen.

Buy some out there.

It’s perfectly possible to do holidays with kids with just hand luggage, I’ve done it loads of times. You can fit way more than you think

I didn’t thin my the 100ml rule was scrapped but then did a quick google only at certain airports! Manchester where I fly from has new scanners but still 100ml restriction. Personally I would do a boots click and collect order to the airport if you can with what you need or pick it up in the airport. I usually never take enough and have to buy a bottle but never any problem with finding something suitable have the same brands as we do just a bit more expensive

If you are going to a medium good hotel or above, they won’t let you hang the washing in the balconies. Not even the towels.

Forget about the bottles of sunscreen, you can buy that later, it is having enough clothes, unless your children are incredible at keeping their clothes clean, get a checked in bag for everything or prepare yourself to pay for the hotel to launder it.
