AIBU to worry about taking enough sunscreen in cabin luggage?

I've never been overseas before.
Going to Greece in 2 days with 2 little DC.
Easyjet.
We are taking cabin luggage only.
100mls restriction for any lotions.
I am really worried about sunscreen for DC.
What do people do?? I00mls sunscreen wont last 2 weeks for both DC, as I'm planning on smothering them in it every couple of hours and every time they get out of sea.
I've been told it's twice the price or poor quality to buy in Crete.
Can i buy it at Gatwick or will they ban me from taking it on the plane?

It's a constant irritation of mine on mumsnet when readers throw in an irrelevant point🙄

We've just done nine days in a European country with hand luggage only - the bigger cabin bags each (10kg), and a small day bag each. It was absolutely fine, in fact we all agreed we took more than we needed (2 adults and 2 children).

We bought sunscreen in a supermarket, as we've been able to do in every other supermarket I've ever visited.

I would honestly add some hold luggage, pack several bottles of sunscreen and enough clothes that you don’t need to be washing them whilst away. Hand luggage only sounds way too stressful. You could also take pool toys and would have the option of bringing souvenirs home.

It’s Crete, not Botswana - they sell exactly the same stuff as you get in the UK!

You need to get those full body SPF swim suits and hats for them. It’s going to be so hot there all day; sun cream is not enough.i also feel like the amount of money you’ll spend on new toiletries, beach toys etc - will be cheaper to book 1 hold suitcase.

Are you only taking cabin luggage to save money? Cos by the time you've bought all your toiletries out there it may not be much of a saving. And you're not bothered about your shampoo, shower gel etc being expensive and or poor quality like you are with the sunscreen? I'd just add on one hold bag and save yourself the stress and the daily hand washing of clothes.

Why wouldn't you? You can have 10kg each in a overhead locker bag and then another bag that goes over the seat. Saves checking in bags and then waiting for them when you arrive.

I buy it once I get through security. If Gatwick has a boots then you can order online for click and collect or just go in and pick it up off the shelf they’ll have loads. Otherwise it will be sold in every grocery and souvenir shop in Greece so will be in abundant supply.

Once you are through security you can buy, and take on the plane, anything you can buy in departures. This worked before the 100ml rule was scrapped too. So go to Boots after security and buy all the suncream you like...as long as it fits in one Boots bag you'll be allowed to take it on the flight.

You might not be able to bring the bottles back, I don't know what the rules are for where you are flying home from, but I promise you will be able to take it with you.

do click and collect for the boots at the airport but you can get suncream over there in supermarkets/ chemists.

I found that buying toiletries and suncream abroad is way more expensive than here. If you’re only taking hand luggage then I’d buy at the airport once group security.

ive been abroad many times and can’t imagine how you will manage with hand luggage for 2 weeks! I’d much rather check baggage in and that’s it until I need to pick it up at other end .

We only ever took hand luggage on family holidays. Beach and pool holidays don’t need a lot of clothes. And the kids get a baggage allowance too. We took sheets, duvet covers and towels too for self-catering. Very doable.

I have - and a quick two second Google would have shown you that shops in Crete sell exactly the same suncream as the UK!

What sunscreen do you usually buy? Because Spar and Lidl out there sell pretty much the same brands as here.

I went to Crete on holiday and sunscreen readily available and I found the chemists brilliant too!

Have you not read the previous posts? You can go into Boots after you have gone through security and buy as many as you want 🤷‍♀️

Gatwick have got rid of the liquid rule. Buy yourself a bottle of P20 suncream, lasts longer so you don’t have to reapply all day.

It’s not irrelevant. Your entire issue stems from you having no hold luggage. You have never flown before so I am sharing experience, which is what you asked for, isn’t it?

Airlines do not have separate rules for liquids. They do not check them when you board. You only need be concerned about the rules at the airport security checks. Easyjet don’t have time to write guides to all the different airports so they just have generic advice on their website.

They have Lidl and Aldi in Crete. Both have their own brand sun creams which are good quality.
Greek own brands are good too . I cant remember the brand now. I’ve always bought toiletries abroad rather than take them through and never had an issue.

If you are stressed at the thought of waiting till you have got through security. Or want to buy a brand you trust at home. just decant a big bottle into 6 x100 mL bottle (or however much you want to take). Each child has a toiletries allowance so split it in their toiletries bag. The rules make no sense because of this. You can take as much as you want if it is different bottles.
