AIBU to worry about taking enough sunscreen in cabin luggage?

I've never been overseas before.
Going to Greece in 2 days with 2 little DC.
Easyjet.
We are taking cabin luggage only.
100mls restriction for any lotions.
I am really worried about sunscreen for DC.
What do people do?? I00mls sunscreen wont last 2 weeks for both DC, as I'm planning on smothering them in it every couple of hours and every time they get out of sea.
I've been told it's twice the price or poor quality to buy in Crete.
Can i buy it at Gatwick or will they ban me from taking it on the plane?

Don't know how much time you have before the trip but Roxy rash vests are great and you can get them on Vinted.

Your choices are:

• buy it after security. It will be more expensive buying it in airport shops than it would be buying it in a supermarket.
• buy it there. To buy a recognised brand yes, it might be more expensive at tourist resort prices.
• add a hold bag, buy it cheaply, and pack it in the hold bag

This is the downside of a cabin bag only approach. Yes its cheaper, but you risk not having space to take everything you need & having to spend more to buy it at inflated resort prices.

Not read all replies so apologies if this has already been said but if there’s a Boots airside, you can do an online order to collect from there once you have gone through security. I think it’s a £5 charge but would be cheaper than getting abroad and you can get your usual brand etc

Whoever told you that suncream in greece is poor quality has no idea what theyre talking about. You are aware it's literally sunny most of the year and babies in greece get smothered in sunscreen the same way they do in the UK? You can buy brand name sunscreen up to 100spf at the pharmacies or alternatively most supermarkets stock the usual brands as well and its not expensive. Often they have 2 for 1 specials. The laws governing sunscreen as more stringent here than in most countries.

EasyJet doesn’t scan your luggage. The airport security does. EasyJet has the info on their website as different airports have different scanners and many still require 100ml max.

Ensure the kids have long sleeve rash guards. They’re typically SPF 50. Saves using a lot of sunscreen and forgetting to reapply, missed spots etc. We have a lot of melanoma in our family, so the rash guards do a great job, and less sunscreen to apply.

I’ve travelled to 57 countries and never had an issue buying sunscreen abroad.

Last time we paid for an extra suitcase and filled it with Tesco factor 50. It was miles cheaper than buying extra suncream abroad where it is around €30 a bottle

Honestly, you would think there were no supermarkets or pharmacies in Greece!

If you buy from a resort it may be a bit pricier but step outside a resort and you'll soon find Sklavenitis or Lidl.

Greek people know about sun protection just as much as us. Greece also know that tourists need to buy sun cream!

I have done hand luggage only multiple times- you can easily do it with a backpack and a cabin case each. Just pack strategically and wash bits in the sink/ washer if you have one.
It’s a little late now but I tend to order all my toiletries/ Suncream online at boots and have them delivered to the boots airside (Past security) store for click and collect. Need about 5 days to be safe I think for it to arrive.

Either buy your suncream in the airport or you can buy it out there. Buy from the supermarkets, where the cream has been in the shop, Don’t buy it if it’s sat on a rack outside and sat in the sun.
I had to buy more when I was in Crete and it wasn’t much of a difference in price. Alternatively if there’s a Lidl nearby they will sell Suncream which is good too.

I wouldn’t recommend boots soltan- my son burned horrifically in Crete with that - F50 which was why I bought new out there. I’d definitely recommend UV swimming tops if you can get them before you go- my son ended up using a T-shirt in the pool. I went first week of August a few years ago.

They have Lidl is Greece and you can purchase cheap sun cream there that works perfectly well. 🙄

EasyJet have no idea what liquids you’ve got in your hand luggage it’s checked coming though security so if it passes them then you’re fine. Check the limits for the specific airport you’re flying from (they don’t all have the new scanners), but it does sound like if you’re flying from Gatwick you get the bigger allowance.
As a previous poster mentioned though you may not be able to fly back with the same containers, even half empty, so you need to check the specific airport you fly home from for their allowances.

Gatwick no longer has 100ml rule. You just won’t be able to bring it back.

I’m in Greece right now. Suncream quality is far superior here than the UK ones. Prices are the same. Go to any pharmacy and get kid friendly creams, or any supermarket. Unless you are after a specific brand, the ones in Greece are much better that the crap own-brand ones they sell in the UK.

Some airports have lifted the 100ml rule.

I've just done a week in America with a small carry bag. 2 shorts, 4 t-shirts, 1 dress, pair of sandals and enough knickers for the week. Hand cream, toothpaste, toothbrush, face wash, night cream and my facial sunscreen. Not a single bit of make up. It was perfect and just right. My carry bag wasn't even full (knew toiletries were provided along with towels) my mum would have completely filled a hold case for the same trip. Some people travel light some don't. Sunscreen I got over there as for various reasons I didn't want to take any risks or tan at all so used factor 100.

Buy it in Greece. There are plenty of mini supermarkets wherever you go and it will be way cheaper than airport prices. Avoid hotel/resort shops, they are expensive.

You might not be packing enough clothes OP, the sun is incredibly strong. The children will need sunglasses, a hat that covers their ears and probably some long sleeves too.

Sun cream may stop the sun burn but it won't provide any shade from the sun that clothes will.

I lived in Greece for 10 years when my 2dd were young and they certainly have an equivalent product to Calpol. I think its called Depon.

Pack the sunscreen in hold luggage not hand luggage, dont buy at airport if you sre only bringing handluggage as will cost the earth
