AIBU to worry about taking enough sunscreen in cabin luggage?

I've never been overseas before.
Going to Greece in 2 days with 2 little DC.
Easyjet.
We are taking cabin luggage only.
100mls restriction for any lotions.
I am really worried about sunscreen for DC.
What do people do?? I00mls sunscreen wont last 2 weeks for both DC, as I'm planning on smothering them in it every couple of hours and every time they get out of sea.
I've been told it's twice the price or poor quality to buy in Crete.
Can i buy it at Gatwick or will they ban me from taking it on the plane?

Some hotels offer a laundry service but by the time you have paid for that you may as well have paid for hold luggage and taken more clothes so you don't need the laundry service

There's always a launderette nearby. We did hand luggage for a week for 4, was fine.just one wash mid way. Easy peasy

Can’t think of anywhere I’d less want to set foot on holiday than a launderette. And never seen an obvious one in any holiday resort I’ve been to. Can you imagine the tedium of having to plan your day to find a laundrette, go to it, wait for a wash and cart the bag of clothes back? And you know who’s going to be doing that don’t you? I doubt many men ever think about scheduling laundry into a day by the pool.

Depends which country / area. I seriously wouldn’t rely on it. I went to Napoli a couple of years ago and started running out despite packing a big bottle. I could not find it for the life of me, only managed to find a tiny bottle for 15€ and the pharmacist looked at me like I was nuts. I don’t think they use it as much as we do.

Absolutely fuck going to a launderette on holiday! My time is valuable - I have 7 - 10 days max on a holiday abroad, I have paid to be there and I generally go to places where I have a list of things I want to see or do - none of which involve washing clothes. I am absolutely not spending any of that valuable paid for time sitting in a launderette.

I think the idea of going on holiday with two children and just had luggage is madness. I find it amazing to think that there are people who are prepared to wash any clothes while they’re in a hotel or apartment, let alone finding a launderette and wasting their precious holiday time waiting for a wash to be done. Surely one of the pleasures of a holiday is that you DON’T have to do laundry or cook, and that it’s an opportunity to wear your best, or new, clothes and dress up a bit while you’re away?

We’ve always just packed enough sun cream in a suitcase to last us for a couple of days and bought more wheN were there. I’ve never had an issue with poor quality products whether Ive bought them within the EU, North Africa, or Asia and have only ever had to buy sun cream that was eye wateringly expensive, in a remote part of Malaysia about 40 years ago. Im 68 and have been flying for holidays at least every year since I was 6, and in all that time, Ive only had one suitcase that was damaged (but the contents were still intact) and have never had a case that didn’t arrive, even on journeys that have involved two changes of airline.

EasyJet has no way of checking your bags. The airport does that so it’s airport rules.

You don’t wait around for the wash. You leave it there, go get lunch or to see somewhere. Then you go back for when the time is done and take it and leave.

Are you sure it's definitely 100mls still? A lot of UK airports are now up to two litres per item for hand luggage. Greece probably won't be on way back, but can use suncream or leave leftovers in Greece.

P20 kids is great, get a couple of rash vests each for the little ones. You can get really thin towels that dry really quickly and take up hardly any space. If Gatwick say you can take more than 100ml, then believe them - the airline won’t be checking, it’s the airport security that will be checking.

The brands you know like Nivea etc will be easily available. They might be a bit more expensive but at least you dont have to carry them and add extra weight. It's usually easier to find good brands in hot countries as they are a very much needed purchase for everyone.

Honestly. Sunscreen is available everywhere. Usually all the same brands and some local ones. There will be a supermarket somewhere where you can stock up.

Currently in Greece and I had to buy some sunscreen (Carroten SPF50) as I ran out. Honestly, it’s even better than the Ultrasun SPF50 I usually use on my DC.
It’s a popular brand that you can get anywhere in Greece so I’m sure you could get some in Crete too.

Once you are through security you can buy anything at the airport and take it on the flight the rules are simply to get through security so you could buy all your toiletries at the airport and take in the easy jet flight

I must be weird because one of my favourite holidays with kids was where we had a little washing machine in the bathroom of the apartment we were in. We could wear our favourite clothes again and much less washing when we got back home. It was so easy to bung a little wash on after dinner and then hang it out to dry.
I couldn’t imagine going to a launderette though.

Why not??? I only ever take hand luggage. No waiting around for your luggage, you don’t need to check in, you can leave the airport straight away after you land. I would never take a suitcase on holiday again! Literally what do you need on holiday that you can’t take in hand luggage.

You can be in your taxi and away while others are still wondering if waiting for their luggage to turn up.

Get the P20 suncream, it’s waterproof and lasts up to 10 hours. I used it when we went to Spain in August on my very fair daughter and she didn’t burn at all! In and out of pools all day.
if you are worried about the quantity, get some little travel bottles and decant into those.

Its a good tip to place an online order at boots, to collect at the airport - airside, that way you can get all the toiletries you need without paying the extortionate prices in the airport boots

OK, since you asked:

Nail scissors are handy, my DS is always asking me to cut off a sudden ragged toenail. I like to knit and crochet and find that a holiday is a great chance to find a quiet corner and get on with my latest project. We have a couple of favourite board games (Ticket to Ride and Settlers of Catan) that we like to bring when we are holidaying with a bigger family group as we hardly ever have that amount of family time in the UK and DS is an only child so playing together at home is limited. (I take them out of the main box so they take up less space.)
We usually take pool inflatables and dive-retrieve toys (wasteful to buy every year and leave). Snorkel. Waterslide park shoes as well as sliders. I like a couple of nice dresses for the evening and my hot brush hair styler because at home I rarely have the occasion to dress up nicely for dinner.
When DS was smaller I liked to take some of the bigger picture books for bedtime. Now we sometimes take hard copy puzzle books, he gets through them quite quickly.
I like to take my laptop because I’m into genealogy and a phone screen is too small for working on a family tree. That has to go in hand baggage, but it means there is less room there for clothes.
I like to leave room to bring things back too. One year I came home from Spain with a beautiful set of table mats that we still use every day, as well as a specialist pan for making the local dessert called “flan”.

Absolutely none of this stuff is necessary on holiday. But they are things that enhance my enjoyment of my holiday.

I’m very capable of travelling ultra-light for different types of break.

@UhOhRatPoo - Nail scissors with blades up to 6cm are compliant with carry on rules.

I hate the idea of limiting myself to a small bag when travelling if you don’t have to. Hold luggage charge (especially if sharing it isn’t that expensive).

And so many people buy stuff at a resort and then leave it as can’t fit in their carry on bag, so wasteful from both a money point of view and resources/landfill

the 100ml limit is only for security. once you're through security, you can buy as many full size bottles as you want in duty free to take with you before boarding, you can take these on the plane. you won't be able to bring them back as the same 100ml restriction applies for greece airport security. remember the 100ml limit means the actual container too!! and it's 1 plastic bag per person including kids (if that still applies) have fun!!
