AIBU to worry about large numbers of undocumented men arriving in Spain?

Thousands of young men from Morocco and beyond swimming to Spain. Spain obviously has encouraged the problem with their amnesty for existing migrants, but thousands more arriving with no means of support and undocumented is going to cause huge problems. Large numbers will no doubt be ultimately trying to reach the UK.

It’s harsh, but we cannot accept infinite numbers of men.

As explained, Ceuta is subject to special rules under Schengen. None of the new arrivals has reached mainland Spain.

And 57 people died.

There were huge queues outside local supermarkets this morning - my guess is that they were getting hungry and thirsty [total speculation]

With the current numbers arriving I suspect the use of HMOs will continue to skyrocket especially in areas where housing is cheapest to buy. By cramming double or triple the number of mainly men into converted accommodation we will end up with an HMO underclass who are sustained by the state, and mostly have a low prospect of making life better for themselves.

That is grim. So the Moroccan authorities were happy for their citizens to lose their lives to noise Spain up?

Update from normal Spanish news, now over 48.300 people have returned to Morocco. France stands in solidarity with Spain.

For those making the point that Morocco has to cooperate with any repatriation - we already have treaties in place for this and the Moroccan administration have agreed that they will assist in making this as agile as possible.

For those asking about the minors, for many years in Spain we have a situation of MENAs. (Menores extranjeros no acompañados). We do not deport unaccompanied children, rather we take them into the custody of the Spanish state. If they are in Spanish state custody for over 9 months before they reach adulthood, they are assisted with working papers.

And we consider anyone under the age of 18 a minor. Currently there are approximately 20.000 MENAs in Spain. The employment rate of those between 16-23 of children who have been in state care (whether MENAs or not) is approximately 56%.

In the UK the employment rate of 16-24 year olds across the entire population is 50.5%

So again. We have the resources to manage. This is basically a bizarre event which is contained and being dealt with.

And for those posters claiming that it is because of our regularizacion extraordinaria - it isn't. As I have stated that door has been closed since 30th June 2026 and in fact since December 31st 2205 as people had to have already been here for 5 months consistently, minimum, to qualify (amongst other requirements such as clear criminal record amongst others).

It may have more to do with the proposed law to grant nationality to those born in Western Sahara before 29 September 1977 and their descendants. There will be a 3 year period for people to apply for this. We have a similar law for people of Sephardic Jewish origins with links to Spain. It is complicated and requires significant proofs as will this new law.
We have similar for the descendants of people who were exiled in the Franco period.

Regardless, less than 25% of the people who tried to come remain with the others having already returned to Marruecos.

Thank you for also pointing out this fact amongst all the posters worrying that the people who got into Ceuta will be using the NHS in England and collecting huge baskets of plentiful food from British food banks tomorrow afternoon as they teleport from North Africa to the UK where according to some everyone dreams of living....

I wouldn’t worry too much about tourists, if this isn’t contained a lot of tourists will be given Spain the swerve.
With an unemployment rate of 10% already and how much the economy depends on tourism it’s not going to look pretty.

these people will not be permitted to travel to mainland spain willy nilly and will be detained or returned in the majority of their numbers after brutal treatment by both moroccan and spanish authorities

but none of this is newsworthy or furthers any agenda in discussions

i mean think about it people - the spanish and eu dont spend millions of euros maintaining its territory on foreign land and stuffing it with the might of the EBCA to make it easier for migrants to cross onto Spanish land via an enclave and quirk of geography

Perhaps some posters will realise that UK tabloid media have been fairly anti Spain for quite some time and have (much like Vox here) been delighted to stoke the fires of panic in people's minds.

For those who don't know as I get the impression that there are a few here, Ceuta is not in mainland Spain. Clearly some people realise this but I think a few lack this piece of information.

And? You think that people should be forced to send their children to the home of someone who thought that they were part of some 'swarm' sent to take over Europe? Can you really blame them for being wary?

There were people earlier in this post talking about sinking boats as being a solution to migrants arriving in the UK. It's important to remember that we are talking about human beings here. That's why when people are returned it must be done following those constitutionally protected fundamental rights I mentioned earlier. Those apply to anyone on Spanish soil.
