AIBU to worry about large numbers of undocumented men arriving in Spain?

Thousands of young men from Morocco and beyond swimming to Spain. Spain obviously has encouraged the problem with their amnesty for existing migrants, but thousands more arriving with no means of support and undocumented is going to cause huge problems. Large numbers will no doubt be ultimately trying to reach the UK.

It’s harsh, but we cannot accept infinite numbers of men.

I'm wondering if other North African men will be emboldened now. For example Tunisia to Italy, a well worn path to Lampedusa swollen again, and maybe to Malta etc. Who knows? The domino effect is real, and the traffickers are everywhere now.

Meloni is threatening to suspend Schengen travel to Italy, I wonder what her response might be if 60,000 arrive in Sicily or wherever.

It is a deeply serious issue now I think for all countries in Europe. I hate to be THAT conspiracy theorist but there is something about this that smells of planning and organisation. I doubt it will end there.

My Spanish friends are perfectly capable of formulating their own opinions and if they wish to feel worried about the situation they are entitled to do so, in the same way that British people would be entitled to feel concerned if 60k people suddenly arrived on our shores. Their thinking is not determined purely by local news sources. They are concerned for the safety and wellbeing of their fellow citizens in Ceuta and the wider Spanish community.

Neither do I. I live in a small cul de sac of 10 houses and my neighbours are a mix of black, white, Asian and mixed race. The nationalities are German, French, British, Russian and Portuguese. I live in London, one of the most multicultural cities in the world and I wouldn’t live anywhere else.

I am just letting you know that your friends live in an autonomous community whose government are run by parties who will be rubbing their hands together in glee about this as they will try to use it as a way to discredit Sanchéz and the PSOE so there might be a little bit of bias in the reporting down there.

I realise that. But she cannot assume that she speaks for all Spanish people and that my friends opinions are formed by their local news. Their opinions are as valid as hers.

You are absolutely right to be concerned, but your view is at odds with quite of number of posters here, who see no problem with illegal migrants or legal migrants overrunning host countries.

Having said that, I have yet to see on MN a post along the lines of 'My dh and I decided to pay for 2, 3, 4 private school places for the children of new arrivals. Any advice gratefully appreciated.' And a flurry of responses - oh, me too, me too, us too, are also doing it. And of course, a number of dissenting answers 'we don't agree with private education, therefore my dh and I have decided to allow to live, rent-free, a family of the new arrivals'.

There is a lot of resentment in Spain towards tourists - "your Airbnb used to be my home" - as there is a housing crisis and there is not enough housing. So how is arrival of all these people going to help? It's not about their culture. Where they are going to live?

Spain has had similar policies to legalise its undocumented immigrants on a regular basis. It’s better for all concerned.

Only a few days ago everyone was celebrating Jamaal as a success story for a migrant family that was able to settle in Spain. Please, consider they as human beings full of potential not as future criminals. Many have died trying to escape horrible things. Love your neighbour is a good principle to live by.
