AIBU to worry about large numbers of undocumented men arriving in Spain?

1000 replies

MaturingCheeseball · 30/07/2026 17:34

Thousands of young men from Morocco and beyond swimming to Spain. Spain obviously has encouraged the problem with their amnesty for existing migrants, but thousands more arriving with no means of support and undocumented is going to cause huge problems. Large numbers will no doubt be ultimately trying to reach the UK.

It’s harsh, but we cannot accept infinite numbers of men.

Hmmm reading around a bit about the history of Cueta I'm wondering whether this is simply an attempt to reclaim it for Morocco, force the inhabitants out by force of numbers, rather than an attempt to carry on into the rest of Europe. It's a bit like the Falklands situation, an outpost of one empire but claimed by another.

When Spain lay claim to Gibraltar I always think about the fact that they have Ceuta as an enclave in Morocco…..

Papyrophile · 30/07/2026 21:31

It is Ceuta, not Cueta... apologies for the pedantry, but it's making my teeth itch.

I despair. I don't want to live in a muslim country. I was born in the UK, and actually I think it's quite fair and accepting of incomers. But IMO, the incomers do the fitting in, not the natives.

How you are going to live in a "Muslim country" if there are 6% of Muslims in the country currently? How tf its going to go from 6% to a majority population?

You remind me of my dear ex MIL - she lived in a quaint upper class midlands village with not a single non-white person in sight, and I remember her telling me with much signing that its soo soo terrible as her village church is going to be turned into a Mosque soon as Daily Mail told her so.

It wasn’t the Eastern Europeans who were “feared” - but prior to Brexit there was the genuine threat of Turkey joining the EU and opening the free movement gates from the Middle East. It happened anyway 🤷‍♀️

There was not genuine threat of Turkey joining.

It was a Vote Leave lie.

The UK also had a absolute veto on countries joining when in the EU

Naunet · 30/07/2026 21:31

It's funny because 10 years ago it was polish and other eastern European people being demonised. The UK 'made Brexit happen' and EU nationals aren't interested in the UK now and people have moved on to demonising someone else whilst looking back mournfully at those hardworking, educated Europeans and pretending they didn't they drive away.

We have not always been a country that is anti immigration, this has only happened in the last 20-25 years. Why do you think that is?

I would suggest its because A. We have less and less resources and B. Certain cultures dont align well with ours.

@TopPocketFind "Most refugees stay close to their country of origin"

So, since when has UK been close to Afghanistan, Eritrea, Iran, Sudan or Syria ?
(these countries make up the biggest proportion of asylum seekers to UK)

Polish people are leaving in droves because quite frankly, Poland now offers more than the UK - and why do you think that might be?

People came from Poland to the UK for “a better life” and were acknowledged as being decent, hardworking people. Now they can’t wait to get back to Poland! Where the government enforces strict policies against illegal migrants.

There is genuinely nothing positive about 0000s of undocumented, unskilled, anti-Western young males arriving in this country illegally. Anyone who thinks otherwise needs to stop drinking the Kool-aid.

You have also had thousands of Morrocans throw your humanity back in your face. The Spanish have shown they aren't accommodating to tourists. Who are the racists? Actually, Xenophobics are just as ugly.

Spain is not accommodating to MASS tourism. The type of tourism that Airbnb and cruise ships brings. The type of tourism that allows for homes to be rented to tourists on a week to week basis for sky high prices forcing people who live here out of their homes. So we stopped it. We protested. The government listened and responded with legislation. As of 2028 there will be no more tourist flats in Barcelona at all. Good. We have hotels for that and tourists are most welcome to use them. This is not xenophobia. It is a response to a housing crisis.

We have had a Moroccan community in Spain for ....a rather long time. We will always have a Moroccan community in Spain. Not sure where our humanity is being "thrown back in our faces" ...

Maybe not - it’s how I read it though
4 people died is sufficient info- the fact that the women tally was raised led me to believe this somehow made it more awful

Edited

It's because three women died "of heart attacks" on a boat packed with men. Work it out.

Which UK government of the day would veto Turkey? During the referendum debate David Cameron refused to say he would veto Turkey.

Yes, this kind of bull I guess.

Cueta is so tiny it'll be overrun in days. Must be frightening for those living there. Am actually surprised it hasn't happened earlier.

I agree, it must be frightening for those who live there legally. Having an influx of men with the potential for more sexual assaults would make me shudder and worry for the safety of women and children. Even more so because of the misogynistic nature of the neighbouring country.

i know there are good kind people everywhere, but those aren’t the ones who forcibly enter illegally en masse, without their families.

i live in northern England, there is a big immigrant problem here relating to male ‘asylum seekers’ and sexual violence. We should close borders, send people who enter illegally all back (I know there is an issue of knowing exactly where original country was), and assess applications from outside. I do know however, that you can’t claim asylum until you come here, but it seems wrong. Let people apply from their own country - but of course, such a large number aren’t asylum seekers, they are economic migrants and that is different.

if we let people apply properly, then why not, if they fit criteria? It’s good for the economy, skills shortages, etc. What we shouldn’t tolerate, is a bunch of random men arriving illegally, refusing to assimilate, etc. if you want to keep hardline, cultural traditions, immigrate to countries who already live like that, not western ones that you deem too lax….

They have the right to seek asylum.

What if we legally removed that right?

It's 6% overall. At eg primary school age, the numbers look quite different. I'm not saying we'll be a Muslim-majority country in ten years, but yes the demographic is going to shift a lot, between that and inward migration.

EmeraldShamrock000 · 30/07/2026 21:42

It is a huge money making racket for traffickers. With all the technology available today, why can’t they stop it at the source, hunt down the traffickers.
Why is the UK paying France to stop the boats when they clearly don’t bother.
The save Europe act petition reached nearly 600,000 signatures, they chasing a million signatures, it has been rejected and any leaders who signed it are being accused of being far right. They really manage to shut down the argument when they label concerns as far right and racist.

I don't read the Mail, I'm in the process of moving from the country to a city for retirement, and there are lots of people moving to my new city who are leaving Birmingham just because it is becoming majority and aggressively ethnic.

Eh? There are 900,000 of those Eastern European immigrants claiming benefits in the UK.

Funny how you skip that.

There has been large numbers from Morocco over the years. There's a long history of disputes between Morocco and Spain as Morocco believes sovereignty of Cueta and Melilla should be handed over. The Muslim population continues to grow.

Ah yes, the demographic is shifting so quickly. Seems to me that it's secular people that we need to be most worried about taking over 🤔
