To be a bit cheesed off by this window display?

Saw this on the high road today. My daughter asked what it meant bless her. The rest of the display on the other side included cross dressing obscene mannequins who had large breasts and moustaches etc. This was a charity shop that supports homelessness.

"It doesn't mean anything honey. It's just a charity shop selling clothes."

I wouldn't bat an eyelid TBH.

UpperLowerMiddleClass · 30/07/2026 13:26

There’s a cafe in our town that has a big mural in the window which says “There’s no LGB without the T’.

Because why wouldn’t you disparage decades of LGB activism, and the gains that achieved through blood, sweat and tears, to make an inaccurate on-trend point about trans identifying people?

If it wasn’t for the fact I never go there anyway due to a) their rubbish coffee and b) the rubbish service, I’d start boycotting them from now on.

Why do we need another photo though? We can already see the two photos OP has already posted plus a detailed description

We don't need to, I just think it's rather interesting that OP apparently didn't bother to take a photo of the worst bit, which leads me to believe the other window is rather less "obscene" than is being claimed.

Is this purposely baiting? Would you actually say this to someone without hiding behind a keyboard? Do you honestly, actually, have such little empathy for other human beings?

Trans people are always claiming to have the worst of everything, to be behind all rights gay people have gotten, etc etc.
That doesn't mean that poster has 'little empathy for other human beings', rather that trans people are well versed in hyperbole and victim mentality.

There are not a lot of trans people in the world—perhaps one percent—but they come from every race and class. Would it lessen your wild antipathy to realize that there are people all over the world trying to live their lives, sometimes in great danger, rather than imagining some threatening middle class bloke trying to use your bathroom?

This mumsnet fantasy hate object is so, do, strange to me. You circle around and comfort each other that everyone hates and fears trans people because we all see them as privileged white blokes who for some strange reason are stealing from us our precious women’s privileges.

I don’t see this at all. I don’t know anyone who does. This frightened, angry, rigid, inhumane approach to random strangers who have nothing to do with you just strikes me as weird.

Jesus get out and try to live life. If you don’t like someone just move on. I wouldn’t feel safe sharing a bathroom or a women’s group with half of you and I am an OG woman born of woman feminist. But I don’t contest your self identification as a woman or your right to use a bathroom. Who cares?

The toilet argument is facetious and has been deliberately seized on by TRAs and Allies because it can be made to seem petty. What most women in this discussion are concerned about is that once you allow an exception you allow all exceptions. So by saying “yeah ok, some males can use the women’s loos” you are also saying it’s Ok for males to be in female prisons, hospital ward, rape crisis services, female sports categories, women’s awards, women’s networking event designed to increase equity in workplaces etc.

If you look at this weeks news, several unions are pissed off and refusing to attend the Labour Women’s conference because trans women aren’t allowed to attend. But what do Trans Women actually have to contribute to the discussions? They were never girls in education so have no lived experience to build on, they have never and will never experience female health problems so can’t contribute to discussions about women’s health, they cannot have experience of being a female sportswoman, or being raised in a culture where as a female they are subjected to forced marriage or FGM…… It is not an inclusive event, it is deliberately exclusive in order to achieve a purpose and that exclusion means that Trans Women (who are and always will be male) are not invited to attend. It’s a reasonable and legal position.

You sure? Pretty sure 100% of the men I’ve seen sat in doorways or sleeping on park benches didn’t have dresses on.

They might be trans men?

If it's obscene, no one should be spreading photos of it around, you plum.

Yes. Given that, do you truly think the shop window was genuinely obscene?

Deadringer · 30/07/2026 13:31

Based on the state of the clothes on the models I think it must be ironic.

Craftycariad · 30/07/2026 13:32

Unfortunately trans people like same sex couples are more likely to have housing issues not because of mental health issues as someone suggested but because of small minded people who don't believe in live and let live. They have to hide who they are from landlords to get accepted for housing, neighbours make up complaints. Love this window

Let me guess a man straight from Reddit.

Men can’t and never will be able to become women, hope this helps you.

No I am a perfectly ordinary 65 year old white woman, long time monogamous marriage to a nice guy, two adult gay daughters. Mumsnet is convinced that since all right thinking people think as they do then everyone who thinks differently must be lying, or a man. But no.

In fact I am a therapist and I work with trauma all the time. My patients and I talk about rape snd rape culture all the time. Here in Trump’s America we are literally soaking in it! That is how I know that women get raped by close family and lovers and boyfriends Far more often than by the bogey man dude in a dress in a public restroom. And my patients know it too.
No one has ever complained to me about restroom s but we certainly have them here.

I have helped women work through their trauma many times but no one has ever reported being raped by a trans woman or a man dressed as a woman in a bathroom.

Im a womsn and have felt fear around (some) men just as much as you. If I walk into a restroom and encounter a drag queen or a transwoman I would happily look to her to defend me against a male rapist. I just don’t think men in drag/transwomen are secretly lusting after women and dressing like women to get over on a credulous popuation. The real rapists of the manosphere like Trump or the Tate brothers certainly don’t bother. Its a rather pointless and arcane strategy to dress as a woman and try to live as a woman but secretly be planning rape.

What an excellent opportunity to teach your daughter about the world and inclusivity and how we are all different etc, I can only assume you didn’t take this opportunity given your post.

Actually I have used these scenarios as teaching moments but probably not in the way you hope. My children have come to me at different times wondering about the cross dressing they see when we’re out and about. They are very astute at working out that there are men dressing up as women and they are intrigued. That’s opened up conversations where I’ve explained the political side of the movement and how it is at odds with women’s rights to access single sex spaces and take part in segregated sports, and be housed in jails away from male predators. They think the whole thing is absolutely insane and now we collectively and inclusively roll our eyes at nonsense like this

pikkumyy77 · 30/07/2026 13:15

Bullshit! I absolutely loathe the women here who parade this transphobia and find them sickening. Libs of tiktok, the online influencer whose patter is often retailed here, is responsible for bomb threats and death threats to the medical staff at our local children’s hospital. I personally know parents of trans teens who have had to flee to safer states here in the US. The violence that is done in the name of “adult female” is very real and very disgusting to me. So no: I would not by choice associate with any one of you but again I wouldn’t deny any of you a place to piss.

So you won't 'deny us a place to piss' but you will make sure it is full of men in dresses.
How kind.

Megifer · 30/07/2026 13:34

I think id have just said oh its like how some people believe theres a god/unicorns/earth is flat.

But you have defaulted to calling her a liar and to implying she doesn't like men wearing anything even slightly feminine - I doubt that was her point.

Thank you! I 100% agree. There is so much hate on mumsnet. I don’t really care whether or not someone thinks a trans woman is a woman (it’s always seemed a pointless debate to me since it obviously depends how you define woman) and reasonable views can differ about limit cases (eg where a particular prisoner should be housed). But the reality is that in day to day life we’re all (cis or trans and regardless of political/philosophical views) just people trying to get along with our lives.

Then you seriously need to stop being naive and you 2) need to look up the sex offending stats for men in dresses. Just because a man is in a dress does not mean he is automatically safe: he is more likely to be dangerous.

I have helped women work through their trauma many times but no one has ever reported being raped by a trans woman or a man dressed as a woman in a bathroom. So because it hasn't happened to you/anyone in your limited acquaintance yet, it doesn't happen?

The violence that is done in the name of “adult female” is very real and very disgusting to me

Please post links to any incidences where women have been violent towards men in dresses, because those of us that live in the real world see only incidences of angry, deluded fetishists aggressively and repeatedly forcing their way into female and LGB spaces.

The level of delusion seen in this thread is off the scale, I'm astounded at the number of people here who seem to think advertising bodily mutilation and reducing women to a parody of womanhood is something to be applauded. Get over yourselves you men-pleasing handmaidens.

OP, at least you now know where not to donate or spend your money.

Simple logic and common sense would tell you that the window wasn't "obscene". In the absence of any evidence to back this up, I can only assume the OP is either exaggerating for dramatic effect, or she doesn't understand what obscene means and thinks mannequins with moustaches in dresses fits the bill.

lifeinthelastlane · 30/07/2026 13:45

Do women traumatised by male violence prefer to know men can be in their shelters, rape support groups and prisons? It seems an odd take on it. @pikkumyy77

We may never know. OP has not been back since posting very late last night.

However, nothing is impossible. This guy was prancing around in a public library at an event for very young children a few years ago.

To be a bit cheesed off by this window display?
