AIBU To Point Out Opinions You Don’t See Outside Of Mumsnet …?

So I have noticed that according to (a lot of posters on) Mumsnet:

-Transphobia is perfectly acceptable.
-Ageism is the worst/most prevalent type of discrimination going on in the uk today.
-Cheating in a relationship is tantamount to murder.
-Enrolling your children in boarding school means you don’t love them.
-Teaching is always a miserable profession, with no exceptions.

What else have you noticed is a very common MN opinion but not one you hear in real life?

I’m not trying to start an argument on the truth of any of these statements, just curious what others have noticed.

How is it ridiculous?

Obviously you sleep, and you’re prepared to take the risk of you being unconscious or hours at a time when in charge of a baby… But somehow it’s far more risky to be awake with a monitor where you can hear their every sound?!

I agree, being asleep seems far more risky, and what has concerns me more when I’m a strange place… Btw, I don’t think I ever used a monitor in a hotel when mine were babies, but then we never stayed in hotels back then - it was always holiday lets.

Just pointing out that someone who had not experience any drama in their life or in their grand-children life is irrelevant. It was the "I've always been fine so everyone wil be" which was a stupid thing to say.

Where MN is amusing, is that we have posters falling over themselves to claim that EVERYBODY leaves a baby in a hotel room alone, and it's a perfectly normal thing to do.

Meanwhile, on this forum no one can leave a 14 or 15 yo alone for a weekend 😂

I literally don’t think a single person has said “everyone” does it. Feel free to point out the post claiming that.

Got to admit I don’t even notice when posts are deleted. Mumsnet isn’t proactive moderation, it’s reactive. They only delete posts that someone has reported.

I think whether it’s safe or not is by the by, tbh.

One poster has stated that it’s a normal thing, everyone in RL does it, nothing to see here kind of thing. In my personal experience it just isn’t. It may have been once; I can’t say - but now I don’t know anyone who would do this. And I’m relaxed enough, have left mine sleeping in the car while I nip in and out of the shop or to get cash out etc.

It’s really about how it feels and it would feel wrong to me. I’m sure going to the bottom of my garden and going to the shop next door are similar distances for some properties but one would feel OK and the other wouldn’t, and I imagine most others feel the same.

I agree completely, @Octavia64. When there are people who will threaten to rape or murder someone for believing human beings can’t change sex, and that women and girls have the right to single sex spaces, it is really hard to speak out against the trans rights activists.

Also, @D0ntB1t3 - I do not think it is ‘phobic’ to believe in the rights of women and girls to have single sex spaces, or to know that human beings cannot change sex. I think that is simple realism. As is saying women and girls should not have males in their sports, hospital wards, loos, changing rooms, rape crisis centres.

Calling people “ trans rights activists” for having no problem with trans people is in itself offensive.

That toilet brushes are gross and it’s weird for workmen to use your loo.

In real life I always here the expressed view that cheating is a terrible thing to do.

I likely think almost all soldiers cheat on their partners tbh. I have worked with men who spent large periods away from home and they almost all cheated or tried to.

I have never heard of this and know nobody who would do it.

Literally everyone I know does it. Hotels provide baby monitors to allow you to do it.
On here it is considered criminal.
