So I have noticed that according to (a lot of posters on) Mumsnet:

-Transphobia is perfectly acceptable.
-Ageism is the worst/most prevalent type of discrimination going on in the uk today.
-Cheating in a relationship is tantamount to murder.
-Enrolling your children in boarding school means you don’t love them.
-Teaching is always a miserable profession, with no exceptions.

What else have you noticed is a very common MN opinion but not one you hear in real life?

I’m not trying to start an argument on the truth of any of these statements, just curious what others have noticed.

Nobody is talking about waking up and setting alarms. We're discussing the wisdom of leaving a child alone in a room and relying on a monitor.

The logical conclusion to your argument is that parents should never go to sleep, and constantly be monitoring their baby, preferably living in a hospital so that emergency resuscitation can be immediately at hand.

Relying on a monitor when you’re awake is surely less risky than relying on a monitor when you’re in a deep sleep. Don’t you ever sleep?

Can a child even choke is there’s nothing in the bed/cot to get stuck in their airway?

@AutumnHazelif they have a febrile seizure they can choke on vomit or saliva which is what scared me about going to sleep.

I always far more scared of being asleep and something happening then anything happening when I was awake, downstairs etc.

I think that's the general consensus in the real world too. I think all women like to be out of double figures for their weight and a size 10 is the ideal. Obviously a lot of women aren't this size but I think in our head we think this.

I think the hotel room/monitor thing isn't a thing nowadays since Madeleine Mccann was taken. People have wised-up. It's not about the choking/waking up is about not knowing who is about and who can access your hotel room.

But people still use monitors when away I stayed with friends if mine in Spain when DS was a baby. He was put to bed and I had the monitor out in the garden where we were all socializing. . It was a large house and garden as well

I was asking you to explain the FACTS of why it's more dangerous a parent watching a monitor while awake when away but it's fine for them to sleep soundly at home ..

And I've brought up my children to be capable confident healthy adults so obviously my " not looking after them properly" has done no great harm
