Vegans

I find them a bit meh. I'm happy for them to do their own thing if they leave me alone. I think this is overstepping. Do vegans not have pets? After all, keeping pets is just forcing animals to live and be controlled by humans.

Yeah, I think you are weird. And suffering very much from cognitive dissonance.

Considering your opinion is that strange men should teach small kids about rape in the middle of a family fun day if the parents haven't already done it, I won't get too upset about your opinion of me, its clearly not worth a lot.

But still eating meat and dairy let’s be clear!

What’s the point you are trying to make exactly?

What’s the point you are trying to make exactly?

That despite listening to the “education” that you have learned from vegans regarding the horrors of the meat and the dairy industry… you still eat meat and dairy.

Just pointing out that the “education” you have listened to / endured…. Hasn’t “worked”.

Nothing like a vegan-bashing thread - started by a one-post-and-run poster - has shown that while there is much worth saving in this world, the human race ain't one of those things.

Oh don’t be so dramatic!

I was vegan for a while a few years ago and have been vegetarian since I was 12. I stopped eating meat because I never really liked it as a kid and would pick it out of food if I could. Still have distinct memories of picking the horrible little sausages out of beans but it still had the porky taste and I found it repulsive.

I never and would never go on and on about being veggie. I don’t care what anyone else eats even remotely. In my house I will not cook nor handle meat but that’s largely because I’ve never done it, find it disgusting, wouldn’t want to kill anyone… DH is welcome to cook it if he wishes. All I ask is that bacon is cooked in a well ventilated room because I can’t stand the stench.

Most veggies are just regular people going about their everyday lives. I’d love a bird of prey event like that and I’m an RSPB member, can’t see how it’s cruel at all.

'A vegan does have a choice. It’s a preference. Fussiness ultimately as I said upthread.'

It isn't 'fussiness' to care about thr welfare of animals and to not want them to suffer horrifically for our pleasure. Hope that helps.

I am not a vegetarian but you are exactly like every vegetarian I have ever encountered…. Never ever goes on about. Never lectures l. Just rubs on along nicely with meat eaters.

At least that is amongst my social circle both close and broader.

Well, if the parents don't do it, then yes.

You are clearly using the word 'rape' and framing it between 'strange men' and 'young kids' to try and connect the actions of these activists to pedophilia or crime. These activists are not raping the kids, they are explaining how animals are forcibly bred.

I can see exactly what you are doing and it is weird.

Hiding reality from children is wrong. Making them complicit in animal exploitation without their consent is wrong.

Teach your children truths in an age appropriate way and then activists won't rock their world because they will already know the truth and whether they are ok with it.

For what it is worth, I also have no belief that these activists gave leaflets to young kids. But that is just my opinion.

As an aside, children should be aware of consent from a very young age so they are aware if they are being hurt or groomed so the concept of rape should not be alien at all. You're using the word in this concept to try and connect vegans with rape. Well fucking weird of you.

It’s not bloody rape. This is one of the reasons @redboxer321 you’re right, I don’t respect vegans and I don’t have to. That doesn’t mean I don’t know the meaning of respect. It means I have thought about what respect is, what opinions and views deserve if and directed it accordingly. We don’t have to blindly respect everyone’s views, particularly if we think they are nonsense.

It’s hyperbole and totally offensive to people who have experienced SA to make the comparison between farming and rape. @redboxer321 You also clearly don’t know anything about autism if you think their eating difficulties are a choice either. Any illness you experience from eating meat or dairy would be entirely self inflicted.

Vegetarians are usually much more reasonable, measured people!

One of my best friends is vegan. She isn't that bothered about animal welfare, she just likes cutting things out of her diet and always has done. It gives her a feeling of control.

Nearly everyone I know who has a diet that involves cutting out food groups probably has a borderline eating disorder and there is a whole dodgy 'nutrition' industry catering for it.

Everyone I know who cuts out meat and animal products do so out of concerns about animal welfare and also their own health. Still, we aren't all kind compassionate people. Of course those with ED will cut out random things from their diet, that is obviously nothing to do with what we're talking about.

Have you heard of legumes? Theyre a great animal body parts substitute and very healthy too, full of protein and fibre. No suffering required and 40p a tin so this 'dodgy nutrition industry catering for it' aren't very good at profiteering are they Grin.

redboxer321 · Today 08:05

Sorry @BakedPotatoBeansCheeseColeslaw but you do not understand what the word respect means. You do no have to agree with the fact that some people try to limit the harm we do to other living, sentient beings by not eating them or their produce but to not respect their right to do so says everything one needs to know about you.

I while I understand that some people with autism experience eating difficulties, eating something they find difficult is not going to kill them. Just as you said eating an egg isn't going to kill a vegan. And, as I said, see if you can take this on board now without hitting out with your nonsense again, I support their right to eat what they like.

I really hope you are not a support worker because that is a role that requires empathy and you clearly have no genuine empathy. You may be able to put on a show but people will see through it so I hope it's just more of your nonsense.

As for this statement:
Any illness you experience from eating meat or dairy would be entirely self inflicted.
But if I refused you'd accuse me of wasting food. Of being fussy.
You really are arguing against yourself now. Perhaps you'd forgotten that you said that it would be incredibly rude if I refused a coffee made for me with dairy milk or something to go on the bbq that contained eggs. As you said, it's not going to kill me, and great aunt Doris has been to so much effort and she can't be expected to read the label on a box of burgers now can she?

And please do not link me to people talking about rape. I have not once mentioned that word in this thread.

@Gloriia what's your favourite legume? I'm in a mung bean faze. Delicious little things. Carry so much flavour. They cook quickly too which is good in this hot weather. How about you?

If you read my first post, I was pointing out that not everyone is vegan for animal welfare reasons therefore the accusations of pet owning or leather shoes are not always the 'gotcha' that people think they are.

I don't care what you don't eat or why you don't eat it. People can do what they like. It was simply an observation about my friends.

I see your world is very black and white. Let me explain to you. I have reduced my meat and dairy intake with probably 95%. Maybe I will reduce by more in the future, but there are certain social situations where I eat dairy like the family pizza once a week and wine &cheese night with friends. I am happy with this for now.

Not in the slightest

but when you say that you are not a vegetarian but don’t elaborate as you now have in this post…

and go on yo say how much you enjoy being “educated” on the horrors of the meat and dairy…

it doesn’t seem unreasonable to point out that the “education” you have enjoyed… didn’t really work!

Ok maybe it didn’t work for you 😅but it worked for me. I feel comfortable about the changes I have made and continue to make to my diet. and I am ok about still eating a bit of meat and dairy on social occasions for now. I never called myself a vegetarian or a vegan, but I try as much as I can to eat that way.

it didn’t “work” for me because thankfully none of my veggie social circle take it upon themselves to “educate” people 😆

Interesting. I'm a bean loving vegan, with Bold Beans butter beans my current faves, but they are ruinously expensive ( for beans). How do you cook your mung beans? Do they need a soak?

I eat them straight out of the jar!! The are so delicious

dayslikethese1 · Today 09:37

I don't have an issue with vegans in general but the ones I will never understand are the ones that get cats and then get upset that they have to buy meat. Like if dead animals upset you, why would you have the most carnivorous pet possible. And don't even get me started on the ones who try and make their cat vegan and the poor things wastes away! Obviously most ppl aren't this bonkers though.

dayslikethese1 · Today 09:42

I do think adopting animals is different from getting one from a breeder though because the animal exists already so to speak, its not like you had it bred for you to buy so don't see why a vegan couldn't have a rescue animal and still be consistent with the not exploiting animals point.
