To be utterly pissed off and fed up with this weather….

I know there’s already been loads of threads about it, so apologies for being so original but OH MY GOD!

I’m not usually a particularly whiny person and I don’t ever remember being particularly troubled by hot ( or cold!) weather before but honestly, I feel like I’m going lose my mind!

Maybe it’s combined with hot flushes or something because no one else I know seems to be struggling that much.

I was fine at first; just thought it would only be a couple of days we’d have to suck it up. We
got the fans out, ate a criminal amount of ice lollies and did as little as possible. But now it feels like it’s been a couple of weeks of non stop over 28 degree heat every day where I live. It’s also unbearably humid. Trying to clean the house is grim. I feel like I’m swimming through treacle and my brain is mush. I can’t concentrate on work, I can’t sleep at night. I am constantly uncomfortable and the house has now heated up to such an extent that no room is even close to cool.

I realise this probably sounds ridiculous but I can’t really go out in this heat. I mean I can go to work (though my office has no air con and is also grim) and I can manage the school run and the supermarket etc, but I can’t go for a walk, or run about at the park with the kids. I definitely wouldn’t want go out in town or mooch about the shops, or eat out etc. I don’t want go in the garden because it’s so hot. The swimming pool is lovely but the changing rooms are beyond the pale. There’s no way I could cope with a day out at the zoo or a theme park with the kids.

I’ve never been so hot or so uncomfortable in my life! I have lots of loose, comfortable clothes, summer shoes etc but I still feel like I want to rip my skin off!

Is it just me? Weather forecast seems to be saying 10 more days of heat wave and I could cry!

I must admit I like the heat, I could easily live in a hot country. I use fake tan instead of makeup, don't blow-dry hair just put it up in a claw clip, wear cool linen and don't do things too fast.

I hear you op !!! I absolutely love the hot weather and summer etc but even im getting to the point ive had enough. I think it's the humidity thats making me feel like that because, like you I can't straighten my hair or attempt to look half decent, all im doing is sweating and its pouring off of me all over my body

As a Moroccan it is extra miserable as there is no respite in the homes. In Morocco the homes are tilled and we wash the floors at dawn and dusk to cool the house down. We also have rooms that have no exterior walls almost cave like and they stay very cool. Also in the summer the shops open after late afternoon and remain open until midnight eveeyone goes out late and you will see children and babies at 10pm chilling outside. The schools also finish 1st June and they go back early sept once it cools down.

Walking on my carpet here is hellish. Would love to feel some cold tiles!

Well it’s not actually HOT all over the Uk is it.
Most years we get a couple of really hot weeks and the rest of summer is a normal mixed bag. I expect August will be the normal disappointing cloudy skies and high teens/ low 20’s

Except in Scotland where it'll be in the mid teens.

I’m the same - I walk outside in all weathers usually but I just can’t in this heat as I’m literally dripping with sweat within minutes.

I hate it, just ploughing through, have squeezed in two outdoor swims which has helped. It’s the fact we have to rearrange lots, get up earlier for the dog, cancellation of sports clubs which help regulate my DC. And the bloody on all night. Its 32 here, think I could cope with 28!
Also, the blackberries are out, I think the seasons have changed, August is now Autumn, they need to rethink school terms. We get all the sun in June to mid July every year now.

I'm thinking about booking my summer holidays up there from now on 😀 (I'm not even joking!)

Sounds like you don't like hot weather, wet your clothes and hair and consider moving North West nearer the coast; the air temperature is more constant nearer the sea especially west coast because of the prevailing wind blowing from the sea, temps are lower further north. South east where it is drier will go hot cold more.

Gosh, you really are hot and bothered, aren’t you! No need to be rude. My cognition is fine thanks. I appreciate and agree that it is currently very hot. However I also think we should maybe just get on with it, as we do during the rain, wind, cold, thunder, snow. It won’t be hot for much longer, if it helps.

It’s gone down to about 23 here in North Norfolk and very nice too. Still hot back home and I fear some plants may have perished

It's still very warm in Bristol today but there's a lovely breeze which is cooling things down.

It feels a tad fresher today ( south east ) bit of a breeze and yesterday was bearable. Just.

I’m a sun worshipper by nature but even this is too much for me. Our houses are designed to retain heat which makes them unbearable. We need external shutters but difficult to fit them as many windows open outwards

There is one house near me that has wooden shutters on one window and I’ve never seen them closed up.
Had metal shutters on an apartment rental in Germany and they really worked well , you needed the light on first thing whilst they went up , so like shop ones. Very impressed and despite not having any air con, it kept the place cold during the day.
I guess that a lot of people will adapt their homes ( if they can and can afford it ) and bi folding patio doors may go out of fashion too! It’ll be all about blocking light a lot more.

some people are so weird about getting a bit sweaty! I’ve known people who don’t go to the gym just because they don’t want to get sweaty. Ridiculous

I just wanted to post to say that I think a lot of people in this thread are being a little harsh by commenting just to say they feel okay in the heat 😂 that’s not what OP needs to hear.

I am in the same boat as you, I can’t be in the sun for more than 10 minutes before I start to feel really unwell. My asthma is triggered by the humidity. I am struggling to get quality sleep. It’s hell.

By contrast, I’m often one of the last people to need a jumper or coat when the cold weather arrives. I’m just built for winter, I think, and some are built for summer. Also, certain medications can make you more sensitive to heat, have you looked into this?

Lovin' it...not wrong weather , just wrong clothes ! Still have memories of only a few months ago in Winter/ Spring where we didn't even see a glimpse of the sun for 5 weeks here in N. Wales...now THAT was depressing. !!

Do you not feel like you are acclimating to the heat? I worked in the US when I was younger, the part of New York state I was in had the hottest weather in years, it was brutal at 1st, but I got used to it after a couple of weeks. I live in Scotland so it's not been as big an issue, there was 1 evening last week when the temp overnight was in single digits, like 7C kind of single digits. But we're not here to talk about me. 2 things I'd say, firstly, I'm going to assume your car has AC, try and find somewhere in the shade to park up, but the AC on recirculate, I mean that's not a long term solution but you can definitely get 10-15 minutes respite. The other thing I'd say is to get yourself some AC for the house, either a mobile AC unit or go all out and get it installed in your house, as this weather ain't going away. All that being said good luck trying to find an AC units ATM, I'd say you'd maybe need to wait until autumn before stocks come back, but as I've said already, this is going to be a regular thing for summers to come. Or just move to Scotland, lol, it is kind of toasty here today at 22C, but Scots tend to catch fire if it ever goes much over 25C.

I'm in Glasgow and it's the same, it was around 7C one of the evening last week.

Alan sugar went into business with an air con man! He said it’s the future. Problem is, it makes climate change worse. Trouble is that higher temperatures can kill and it may be needed in public places.
