To be utterly pissed off and fed up with this weather….

I know there’s already been loads of threads about it, so apologies for being so original but OH MY GOD!

I’m not usually a particularly whiny person and I don’t ever remember being particularly troubled by hot ( or cold!) weather before but honestly, I feel like I’m going lose my mind!

Maybe it’s combined with hot flushes or something because no one else I know seems to be struggling that much.

I was fine at first; just thought it would only be a couple of days we’d have to suck it up. We
got the fans out, ate a criminal amount of ice lollies and did as little as possible. But now it feels like it’s been a couple of weeks of non stop over 28 degree heat every day where I live. It’s also unbearably humid. Trying to clean the house is grim. I feel like I’m swimming through treacle and my brain is mush. I can’t concentrate on work, I can’t sleep at night. I am constantly uncomfortable and the house has now heated up to such an extent that no room is even close to cool.

I realise this probably sounds ridiculous but I can’t really go out in this heat. I mean I can go to work (though my office has no air con and is also grim) and I can manage the school run and the supermarket etc, but I can’t go for a walk, or run about at the park with the kids. I definitely wouldn’t want go out in town or mooch about the shops, or eat out etc. I don’t want go in the garden because it’s so hot. The swimming pool is lovely but the changing rooms are beyond the pale. There’s no way I could cope with a day out at the zoo or a theme park with the kids.

I’ve never been so hot or so uncomfortable in my life! I have lots of loose, comfortable clothes, summer shoes etc but I still feel like I want to rip my skin off!

Is it just me? Weather forecast seems to be saying 10 more days of heat wave and I could cry!

I actually think I’ve started acclimatising. 30c here and it doesn’t feel that bad. I think the heat must be drier than it was the other week. Plus it was quite windy today! It’s still very hot upstairs in our house though.

Musicaltheatremum · Yesterday 18:49

I'm in Edinburgh and freezing today. Needed extra fleeces and could even put heating on!

TheFairCat · Yesterday 18:50

To add, I need to look fairly respectable for work but can’t wear makeup (sweats straight off), can’t bear to wear a bra and definitely can’t blow dry or straighten my hair…. All my colleagues seem to look their usual polished selves 🤦‍♀️

I am fine at the moment. Thermostat in my hallway says 29°! I am parked in front of a fan and just ate a bowl of ice cream so that has helped.

I am SO jealous! I can barely manage to wear pants….

We are down to between 20-25 over the last week in the North East, it has been OK.

MinnieCoops · Yesterday 18:52

I love it! I’m in London and it’s glorious

TheFormerMrsTruelove · Yesterday 18:52

I’ve got to the stage where I’m YouTubing skiing videos to try and trick my brain into thinking it’s chilly 😫

mynameiscalypso · Yesterday 18:53

Where are you? It’s definitely better in London this week than it has been in previous heat waves so far - less humid, cooler at night, more of a breeze. Hopefully it will get better for you soon too!

I’ve been watching train journeys through Siberia in the winter 😆

Lottapianos · Yesterday 18:55

I hear you OP. I find the heat so tiring - you're fighting it all day and all night. I love being outside in sunshine but can't do my usual walks coz I get too sweaty. I try to enjoy it coz it will be grey and rainy again before v long, but it's just too bloody hot!

I'm in London and it's boiling but not as humid as 2 weeks ago, so small mercies

That won’t last! You wait by day 3 of this when all the concrete and buildings are retaining the heat and it cools down less and less.

In the south east, it’s 31 degrees today, tomorrow and Wednesday and not predicted to drop below 28 for the next 11 days. I seem to be doing the opposite of acclimatising and feel worse every day. I can’t really eat and feel almost like I’m ill.

Peonies12 · Yesterday 18:56

I don’t feel like it’s that hot? And we’re in south east.

Greengrassclover · Yesterday 18:57

It makes me so miserable - I don’t know what happens but my mood drops as soon as it starts getting too hot. Probably my age and the fact that everything is such effort!

Itsmeanttobesummer · Yesterday 18:57

No, I feel exactly the same OP. Totally had enough of it now, these aren’t even heat waves anymore, it’s pretty much just the whole summer at 28-30 degrees.

I’m a very outdoorsy, active person but can’t really do any of my normal activities in this heat. Im bored of it all now. Why can’t we just have a nice 23/24 degrees everyday?! That’s bearable/ manageable! Who really wants it in the 30’s?!

CombatBarbie · Yesterday 18:57

But its called summer. Ive lived in europe with higher temps but also lived in Portsmouth for 4 yrs and the summers were a constant higher 20s heat. Now in Scotland, its warm as in can be out without a jacket but its not hot......next wave is due Wednesday here.

GimmieABreakOr3 · Yesterday 18:58

YANBU - I am struggling too and I’m generally a heat lover! It’s a diff kind of heat in the UK and working in it is uncomfortable without proper air conditioning

Nangula · Yesterday 18:58

Obviously, YANBU if you hate it. Loads of people do.

I spent my early childhood in Zambia and bloody love it. African childhoods make you solar charged, I think. And feel I’m getting a proper solar charge in the UK for once (also feel a bit guilty about loving it re. climate change.)

My teens haven’t whinged about the heat once, dogs bask on the tiled kitchen floor, I’m barefoot and braless all the time- like my mum c.1984. I especially love being able to eat outside three meals a day, getting in or on the water and playing sunny tennis matches, London in the sunshine is wonderful! Also quite enjoying the Zoom calls to my sister in grey old Melbourne. We are off to the Alps for hiking, swimming, eating etc. for a month next week and I can’t bloody wait (the teens and dogs will barely leave the lake I suspect )

It’s only predicted to be over 20 degrees at night on one day this week. That makes a massive difference to how hot it feels. A couple of weeks ago, it wasn’t dropping to below 25/26 at night.

Yes, this is it! I love being outdoors and would normally be out with the kids as much as possible. They are both high energy and need lots of input… Even a walk after dinner seems too much as it’s still 28 degrees! I feels like my life is on hold and I’m just doing the bare minimum. That’s kind OK for the odd few days, but not weeks!

Yes! 9 months pregnant here and really pissed off with it too.

Just got my hospital bag half packed and all the baby bits washed/set up and the rage i felt while sweating buckets and feeling like a furnace is unreal, i could have cried.

I just hope we get a cooler day when i go into labour 🙏🏼

At least the baby will be happy because the air will be the same temperature as inside your belly (not being mean my 3rd son was born on a bloody hot day and slept all night first night)

NecklessMumster · Yesterday 19:09

It's 24° in the SW where I am so okay the moment but I am dreading the return to 34 in the next few days which is forecast. I find it frightening that this is the future, I go into endurance mode but can't get much done so life goes on hold. I find it unbearable tbh
