To be utterly pissed off and fed up with this weather….

I know there’s already been loads of threads about it, so apologies for being so original but OH MY GOD!

I’m not usually a particularly whiny person and I don’t ever remember being particularly troubled by hot ( or cold!) weather before but honestly, I feel like I’m going lose my mind!

Maybe it’s combined with hot flushes or something because no one else I know seems to be struggling that much.

I was fine at first; just thought it would only be a couple of days we’d have to suck it up. We
got the fans out, ate a criminal amount of ice lollies and did as little as possible. But now it feels like it’s been a couple of weeks of non stop over 28 degree heat every day where I live. It’s also unbearably humid. Trying to clean the house is grim. I feel like I’m swimming through treacle and my brain is mush. I can’t concentrate on work, I can’t sleep at night. I am constantly uncomfortable and the house has now heated up to such an extent that no room is even close to cool.

I realise this probably sounds ridiculous but I can’t really go out in this heat. I mean I can go to work (though my office has no air con and is also grim) and I can manage the school run and the supermarket etc, but I can’t go for a walk, or run about at the park with the kids. I definitely wouldn’t want go out in town or mooch about the shops, or eat out etc. I don’t want go in the garden because it’s so hot. The swimming pool is lovely but the changing rooms are beyond the pale. There’s no way I could cope with a day out at the zoo or a theme park with the kids.

I’ve never been so hot or so uncomfortable in my life! I have lots of loose, comfortable clothes, summer shoes etc but I still feel like I want to rip my skin off!

Is it just me? Weather forecast seems to be saying 10 more days of heat wave and I could cry!

25 degrees with a cooling breeze here today. Lovely.

I logged back on for this comment 😂
Just on the way home from the beach. The ocean today was really warm, and even knee deep was bath water warm. I was stunned to be honest. Never expected that in the UK!

Well that is very rare for the UK!...if a bit concerning!
Of course it's great that your joints aren't hurting with this weather etc, but I just wish it was 10 degrees cooler so that we (people like me) could enjoy it and not melt ha.I'm suffering and having to stay indoors... :(
I'm defintely NOT built for this kind of weather

Loomis · 11/07/2026 16:11

Still hideous in Bristol today. My 2 year olds room is 30 degrees.

Hedjwitch · 11/07/2026 17:33

Back to grey skies and pissing rain in Scotland after 3 days of sunshine. sigh

Same about 30 miles away. I keep checking and they always say 1 more day at 31/32 then dropping to 26 but they've just changed tomorrow to be above 30 as well.

RampantIvy · 11/07/2026 18:02

22 degrees now and breezy.

Wiseplumnet · 11/07/2026 18:05

North west Highlands Scotland, weeks of wet, windy weather 12-14 centigrade!

Musicaltheatremum · 06/07/2026 18:49

I'm in Edinburgh and freezing today. Needed extra fleeces and could even put heating on!

I wish fed up of feeling sweaty sticky and dirty

I wish. Fed up of feeling sweaty sticky and dirty

Bit whingey imho. If we moaned every time the weather was shit (99% of the time) we’d never stop. Blows my mind the number of people who bang on about a few short weeks of heat in summer - it’s supposed to be hot!

The idea of Scotland is growing on me more and more.

I absolutely hate it so you’re not alone !!! All I can think is that it’ll pass eventually and we can get back to loaning about the rain … I just thank god we don’t actually live in Europe as I think I’d die 🥵🥵🥵🥵You’re not alone xx

groguismychild · 11/07/2026 18:43

I've always hated summer; the heat, the expectation to be happy, the sunscream mixing with sweat, the need to dress summery and show the world what a great time you're having. Hate everything about it. My skin always feels like it's on fire and I'm miserable most of the season. Now with the heatwaves becoming more and more common, I think my family and friends finally getting a glimpse of how I feel every year. Give me rain and clouds anyday.

the80sweregreat · 11/07/2026 18:46

I have summer dread too. Even worse this year.
Its just relentless isn’t it.

MidnightMusing5 · 11/07/2026 18:51

Basil seeds in your drink. Supposed to be cooling for the body ( I love the texture but many don’t!) I have with ice and squash or fresh lemon juice in water .

thus is first summer more tolerable. I think it’s the seeds! 🤷‍♀️

Septagenariandaisy · 11/07/2026 19:10

I agree that it has been uncomfortable of late but just keep telling myself
that after next week when the kids break up from school the weather will change drastically. It always seem to change when school holidays arrive.

And now seen a forecast puahing back the reprieve even further! Beyond depressed and deeply resentful we have to this year after year again and again! I worry about the wildlife and how this will affect farmers. But as long as they get their summer eh?

Kittybuttons · 11/07/2026 19:19

Are you on any form of long term medication? Amitryptaline and similar things which are prescribed for nerve pain and other things can cause exactly what you are describing. I am exactly the same and I'm now doing controlled withdrawal fron it as I cannot bear the heat, whereas I used to love it.

Similar to you. Also noticed that even people I know who have so far never understood my despair every summer are now starting to tell me they are beginning to get why I struggle.

Whether it's just you or not, you can't change it so just get in with it. What you can do is adapt to it as much as your circumstances will allow but there's no use is moaning about it.

Kazbarina · 11/07/2026 19:25

Nope, where i live its been 38 and doesn't cool down, and for next few weeks

Sounds perfect. I don't need it want wall to wall baking temperatures 🥵

cornflakecrunchie · 11/07/2026 20:09

Just my thoughts.. unless you have a decent sized house, portable (they are so HEAVY) air con will maybe be too big.
We've got proper air con fitted now in one room as a start but it was £1000. (Worth it!)

Listen to what people in the know say, & leave curtains & blinds closed. Pop a face flannel in the freezer. (I get neuropathy & it's lovely to rub my feet with at bedtime!)

Get a kids rigid playpool! A plastic inflatable etc isn't enough to hold onto to get yourself back out if you're getting on a bit! So lush, though..

Oh & if you ARE thinking of going to live in Scotland, I hope you're prepared for the midgies!

Loomis · 11/07/2026 20:11

Leaving the curtains and blinds closed all day makes little to no discernible difference to the temperature of my house.

But the point is this IS shit weather to many of us, it's not automatically nice weather because it's sunny and hot? I prefer the rain that everyone else is always moaning about 🤷🏻‍♀️
