To be utterly pissed off and fed up with this weather….

I know there’s already been loads of threads about it, so apologies for being so original but OH MY GOD!

I’m not usually a particularly whiny person and I don’t ever remember being particularly troubled by hot ( or cold!) weather before but honestly, I feel like I’m going lose my mind!

Maybe it’s combined with hot flushes or something because no one else I know seems to be struggling that much.

I was fine at first; just thought it would only be a couple of days we’d have to suck it up. We
got the fans out, ate a criminal amount of ice lollies and did as little as possible. But now it feels like it’s been a couple of weeks of non stop over 28 degree heat every day where I live. It’s also unbearably humid. Trying to clean the house is grim. I feel like I’m swimming through treacle and my brain is mush. I can’t concentrate on work, I can’t sleep at night. I am constantly uncomfortable and the house has now heated up to such an extent that no room is even close to cool.

I realise this probably sounds ridiculous but I can’t really go out in this heat. I mean I can go to work (though my office has no air con and is also grim) and I can manage the school run and the supermarket etc, but I can’t go for a walk, or run about at the park with the kids. I definitely wouldn’t want go out in town or mooch about the shops, or eat out etc. I don’t want go in the garden because it’s so hot. The swimming pool is lovely but the changing rooms are beyond the pale. There’s no way I could cope with a day out at the zoo or a theme park with the kids.

I’ve never been so hot or so uncomfortable in my life! I have lots of loose, comfortable clothes, summer shoes etc but I still feel like I want to rip my skin off!

Is it just me? Weather forecast seems to be saying 10 more days of heat wave and I could cry!

Same. I worry I’m slipping into such severe depression I probably should be signed off work but they’re not sympathetic at all despite me having a physical job that can potentially make me overheat in the current weather.

Has your workplace updated their health and safety to take into consideration the extreme heat?

They have a duty of care
If they expect you to work a manual job outside, all day, are they doing anything, allowing you to go home early, take extra breaks, providing cold water for free, anything?

You mustn't put yourself in danger of suffering heat exhaustion!

I’m a fitness instructor. I work in several places and it varies in terms of environment and the control of temperature. A couple of places are very aware and take it seriously, however one place (my main work) is not at all prepared to make reasonable adjustments (they won’t even do that for my autism and ADHD!) and whilst the gym and studies are cooler with air conditioning, I also teach aqua fit and they aren’t happy if I cancel. Partly as can’t get any one to cover and they also don’t take it seriously when I say I have been medically advised since childhood that if heat and humidity exceed certain levels I shouldn’t really be out.

That really sucks. I would think a lot of people would appreciate a fitness instructor having to cancel due to the heat, but I appreciate that's a totally different thing from management.

I used to have an outside security job. And one day I had to phone in because it had been an extremely hot day, and by the time I started work, I felt faint and weak just walking to the train station. I had to turn back.

When I rang in there was frank incredulity from my supervisor. She had a tone of total disbelief at what I assume she imagined was my brass neck, and sheer emotional wooliness in 'crying off' work because it was a bit hot.

It was recorded breaking temperatures and I wasn't going to end up in A&E.

As someone with several health conditions myself, I do find it quite disgusting how unprepared to make adjustments many employers are. It's when you work in the grey zone of being self employed but requiring the use of licensed third party spaces, organisers or agencies. They can skirt the laws of H&S. As a woman who has also never used contraception, even basic sanitary provisions or toilets aren't always provided for in such setups. It's quite shocking to encounter in the 21st century. People never believe me.

Well if this is the future they're all going to have to start implementing changes to accommodate for extreme heat. We cannot keep burying our heads in the sand.

I just hope it gets better for us all next week. Today is already horrible and it's early!

Hope you’re okay. I’m living off isotonic drinks at the moment. Frustratingly even a doctor said to me a few years ago, my immune system is really strong and hardly anything touches me until the heat arrives. It’s the one thing my system cannot manage. During several winters I’ve been the only one at work not to be off sick with the colds and flu every one else gets so can’t understand why no allowance for me .

It's 36° in my garden at the moment, the upstairs of the house is 32° with all curtains closed, it's unbearable

I was really sick this afternoon when I got back from picking my daughter up from school. Half hour walk there, then another half hour back. It was horrendous

A lot of employers hands are going to have to be forced before they pull their fingers out from where they normally keep them. A charge of manslaughter perhaps should an employee die of heat stroke.

Sadly I think you're right and it will come to that and someone will suffer serious heat stroke and die before any wholesale changes take place and the government wakes up.

But here's a little laugh: I had ordered an iron supplement from America.

They (finally!) arrived in a nice tidy cuboid box.

It was FOUL in London today. I walked to the bus stop at 8.30am and it was disgusting even then. Waiting for it to cool down a bit more, then into a cool shower and a bed with a frozen water bottle in it 🙄

5 degrees cooler tomorrow which will make a big difference. Still too bloody hot of course!

We are at a caravan park at Sandringham and it’s rammed. Fortunately caravan loses heat at night so OK. Went to Sunny Hunny today and it was hot but OK with bit of breeze

There are always some idiots people who think that because 23/24 degrees is nice, surely 34 degrees must be even better! Not helped by moronic articles in newspapers,always putting a positive spin on it,no matter how hot and uncomfortable it is. I'm perfectly happy with it at 23/24 degrees. It's been between 32 and 35 degrees where I live over the last 4 days and it is making me feel really ill. I swear the I will throttle the next person who says 'Isn't it lovely!' accompanied by a tinkly little laugh.

Perthshire here. We had the heating on at work Monday and Tuesday yet it’s been t shirts Wednesday and Thursday!

I love love love it. I was made for this weather. My skin feels better. My joints feel better. I am so pleased to see the sunshine every day and be able to go on long walks, in just a pair of shorts and a vest. I loathe the cold and the rain. We had months of non-stop rain earlier this year and a drawn out winter, so I don’t think a month or two of proper summer is that much to ask for. I’m appreciating every single moment.

I am tired all the time, can’t focus on anything and have constant ringing in my ears (don’t know if that’s air pressure or dehydration).
I work in a school and it’s absolutely horrendous. It’s a prefab that seems like it was built to just absorb all heat from outside and by 1pm it’s at least 30 degrees in there and just keep getting hotter with still air as no fans. I do think the government will have to put some money in to schools going forward if summers are going to continue like this as it’s not a suitable learning environment for children or working environment for adults!

I get the appeal of the sunshine, I really do, and the bright mornings and long evenings. I went for a walk at 6am today and it was lovely. Not a chance I would be doing that in the winter!

But do you not get sweaty and sticky in this heat? That's what does me in - how oppressive the air is and how tiring it is. I really don't get how anyone finds over 30 degrees enjoyable

I do get a little sticky if I’m stuck in work, no air con and in my work attire… Although I don’t mind it too much, because there have been so many days I’ve been sat in the same spot, so cold, that my wrists ached and I could barely type.

I have always had incredibly dry skin. So for the most part it’s feeling beautifully moisturised at the moment, it looks lovely and smooth and tanned as well. I can’t stop looking at my legs! Perhaps I just wasn’t made for the UK. I should have been a Floridian. Florida summers are my favourite.

I live not far from the north Kent coast and temps have been in the low 30s all week, it’s been horrible and sticky all week (although Monday wasn’t too bad humidity wise). Overnight last night the wind direction changed, it’s now coming from the North East , the wind speed is picking up and it feels lovely, temperature is currently 26 and it’s not supposed to get any higher. This is the type of summer’s day I love.
Temps are meant rise again here next week but wind direction is supposed to stay from the north and continue to be breezy. Hoping it’s not going to be as bad as this week 🤞.

For some reason we here in the SW have drawn the short straw, having been bang in the red zone in June, and while my mate in London tells me they are due max 25 on Monday it isn't due to drop below 28 here until Saturday 18th. Everything is dead.

When this all started everyone was throwing the sausages and burgers and potato salad in the trolley at the supermarkets for BBQs but the novelty seems to have worn off!

I had to go to the dr for leg swelling and not going down overnight. She said the heat is not helping anyone and that's all she's seeing. She said don't try to exercise too much as it's too much in the heat. I'm in South Wales so would definitely have died by now if in the SE.

I've been to Florida in July! It was a surprise gift trip, and I was secretly disappointed at the destination we were going to whilst outwardly appearing enthusiastic, partly because I had a very biased perception of how culturally enriching it could possibly be in relation to almost anywhere else😬 and partly because of the expected heat!

It was hot. BUT, and I cannot adequately explain it, it was a bearable heat. The heat here feels like being under a focused heat lamp. There, there were many mini rain showers and a breeze. Also Florida shocked me with how green it was, this never seems to come across in tourism Ads or on TV shows. But driving down from Orlando to Miami it was breathtakingly beautiful dense forestry stretching away for miles. There were also lots of smaller ponds and watercourses. That all clearly absorbs some of the heat. Then there were beaches, with an ocean breeze coming off the water, not to mention everything was more spaced out and there was air conditioning. I could be out and about in the Floridian heat, and I ended up loving my holiday and seeing the geography of America in a totally new light.

Here the heat feels like being cooked under a flat concentrated heat lamp with no breeze. It just feels heavy, dense and strength sapping. I would swap enduring the rest of the summer here to spending July and August in Florida if I could.

Agreed. I have done Florida in June and August. It rained almost every day for a few minutes which massively helped and the air con was fierce. Plus I didn't have to sit in a Georgian building in office wear.

Do you honestly believe that? Because, at this point, comments like this just read as trolling tbh.
