Transgender niece

My niece lives in another country and I’ve just heard that she is becoming a he. She has changed her name, is taking hormone medication and now has facial hair. She is a transgender boy. However she sees herself as a boy. AIBU to think she will never be a biological boy and to refer to her as a transgender boy? I realise this could be an emotive topic.

I'm a feminist. I don't believe my rights should come at the expense of others. I have not time for any trans person demanding complete submission of women. just like I don't have time for any woman demanding complete submission of trans people.

I'm fine with reordering society tbh as the one we're living in is pretty shit.

Anyway. If this was my nephew, I'd happily call him my nephew and respect his pronouns. The whole fucking world is against him right now. I'm his aunt, and I will respect him until he gives me reason not to.

What rights do trans people no have that the rest of us do?

Darker · 23/06/2026 09:38

@FrippEnos transgender is a protected characteristic so there should be legal protections.

Whether that works in practice is another matter.

Can you answer the question or not?

And there are indeed legal protections for trans people: you can't fire them because they are trans, for example.

What protections do you think they are missing?

No, that's not strictly true.

Undergoing transition is a protected characteristic. Not 'being transgender'. And it means you can't fire someone for undergoing transition or refuse them housing (for example). Thats all.

There are legal protections.

What you are after, is extra privileges. Privileges that no other male or female is entitled to. It's never been about trans 'rights'. You know it, I know it, fellow readers know it. It's never, never, ever been about trans rights. If it were, you could name one (1) right that trans don't have, that every other man and woman has. None of you can ever, and will ever, answer the question what rights don't you have (or are at risk of losing).
The only time anyone tries (which is extremely rare), they say something clearly blatantly untrue that you 'cannot access toilets'. You can. You just can't use toilets of the opposite sex. Which, is common sense.
The next is 'healthcare'. No other man or woman has the 'right' to just go to a Dr and demand whatever restricted drug they want. So trans are no different there.

It has never, ever been about 'rights'. Trans have the same rights as every other man and woman. No more, no less.

It's only ever been about demanding extra privileges that no one else can access. That's the truth of it.

Thank you for the correction.
