Inconsequential but HIGHLY irritating things your DH does

I’m not talking ‘fails to do any housework’ or ‘won’t parent his own kids’ but minor irritations that make you want to scream but you can’t because its so petty. For me

Refuses to use the automatic windscreen wiper. Instead he waits until he has no visibility and then manually flips the wiper on once. In heavy rain he’s doing it every couple of seconds. Just put the bloody auto wipers on!!

Unloads the dishwasher but leaves select things stacked up ‘near’ the cupboard or drawer they live in rather than putting them away. Apparently they are left there to ‘thoroughly dry’.

Rage!!!

He hovers in the doorway, don’t matter what room it is, he’s always in the doorway. Ds18 gets proper pissed off with him when he does this. It annoys me more when I’m trying to do chores around the house and he’s constantly in my way. Standing mostly. Even dd13 said to me the other day, why is my dad always in the bloody doorway.

CoastalCalm · 16/06/2026 22:42

Mine tidies by putting stuff into any random cupboard when we have sections for say soups / tuna / tinned fruit - just pays no heed

He also put things on top of the cupboards in the kitchen and utility which I hate and can’t reach

He does the random bits left from the dishwasher too or puts them on draining board - usually things that aren’t run of the mill like cleaned jam jars or Tupperware he has used

Cooks an amazing dinner, then either doesn't save the recipe, or remember it, so later efforts are a sad disappointment.

This is quite a nice problem to have to be fair!

musicandmen · 16/06/2026 22:42

Doesn’t hang the wet washing up on the maiden. So takes it out the machine, sorts the stuff for the dryer and then leaves the rest for me!

also strips the beds but doesn’t make them. If he has to do it. Can take him up to an hour

Happyjoe · 16/06/2026 22:42

Loads of irritating stuff! Bathroom cupboard with our toothbrushes in is next to the loo. I ask him hundreds of times to shut the door because of any bacteria. He leaves it open a couple of inches, so he does go to close the door... almost.

Rams things into an already full kitchen bin, or fills it to the top with other rubbish and doesn't empty it unless I ask.

Brushes his teeth with electric toothbrush in front and close to the bathroom mirror. It gets splattered every day and he doesn't clean it off unless I ask.

And he's untidy. I'm not hugely fussy but he's something else and is the biggest cause of any arguments. What gets me is when he used to go visit his parents, or as they got older, stay over, he was spotlessly clean because that's how his parents liked it! Grrr.

I feel like his mother at times, oh and a magical cleaning fairy.

I keep a £1 coin in the cup holder in the front of the car for the supermarket trolley. He keeps spending it! We're not hard up but he'll take that £1 rather than get more cash out or pay by card. Fucker.

Get a coin token.

Mine is brilliant. Cooks, cleans, shops, the works.

But then he does the washing for us but then leaves it hanging up on the kitchen door for days rather than taking it upstairs immediately.

Underwear and socks are immediately brought up, but shirts, blouses and dresses just stay downstairs absorbing cooking smells.

Loads the dishwasher from front to back! Drives me bonkers!!!

Ok whats the problem with that? You can make bowls and pans etc fit better doing it that way!

Ooh, mines started to do that! And my FIL used to. Why do they do it?!

It's great once then just a dinner of sadness as he goes off piste...

MidnightPatrol · 16/06/2026 22:44

He doesn’t clean out the drain after he’s done the washing up, so leaves it full of old food etc.

Hard to comment, since it’s a consequence of him having done the washing up…!

Pureclass · 16/06/2026 22:44

Wanders about the house eating ...without a plate!!! Dropping fucking crumbs everywhere.

Then related, never turns on the robot vacuums!!! We have 2, 1 upstairs, 1 down.

These are both manual (TBF they may have the ability to be WiFi- but ours is shite so they a manual) - its literally pressing 2 buttons and walking out the door.

If I dont do it they dont run, and if they dont run every day its pointless having them as then you need to get the proper hoover out!

I'm insane over it...i really should just not give a fuck but dirty carpets piss me off

Firstworldprobs · 16/06/2026 22:44

Closes all the venetian window blinds UPWARDS.

Leaves his sliders everywhere other than by the back door.

Talks at me about BORING life admin stuff after 8pm without checking if I’m listening or noticing that I am staring blankly through him throughout.

Promises to load the dishwasher before bed but then forgets and does it the next morning before work instead.

Uses every utensil and pan when cooking and leaves the kitchen like a bomb site.

I am aware most of these things are related to good things he is doing so I keep my mouth shut.

Sunnywalker · 16/06/2026 22:45

Runs the dishwasher several times just adding one additional cup or a spoon because he can’t be bothered to unload it.

Ooh, the bread bin is like that, he 'almost closes it and thinks that's the same thing as actually closing it.

Orange3344 · 16/06/2026 22:46

Slurps his coffee and makes that ahhh noise after every sip!

murasaki · 16/06/2026 22:47

Mind you, I'm sure he has a list of things I do that peeve him, he's just too nice to say.

toomuchfaff · 16/06/2026 22:47

Nervousb2b · 16/06/2026 21:56

Puts a bin bag in the bin without fluffing it and tucking it in nicely, and then just afterwards proceeds to put a load of rubbish in it completely oblivious to the fact that none of it has gone IN the bin bag.

empties the bin, doesnt replace the bin bag..... i purposefully havent added a bag, you can empty it again this week and deal with the no bin bag situation!

SuperGinger · 16/06/2026 22:48

SisterMaryImmaculate · 16/06/2026 21:53

Empties the dishwasher but stacks the pots in the cupboard like one of those gravity-defying balancing stone sculptures.

Mine does this too, infuriating isn't it!

Not shaking washing properly so it dries all crumpled (think sleeves not shaken out etc).

And actually it is consequential because I try not to iron (which usually works if it’s hung up properly) grr!

Yes, this!

Also, pegging T-shirts from the bottom really widely so they become Y-shirts! 😡😂

Dolallytats · 16/06/2026 22:48

SusanChurchouse · 16/06/2026 22:06

Are we married to the same person? Yes, random things just left by the side of the sink unwashed. Usually a water bottle or similar.

Leaves a pile of crumbs on the kitchen surface every time he makes toast. Every time.

Im married to him too!! Always a bottle😬

The bloody windscreen thing must be a man thing as my ex-h did that, my current husband does it and so does my brother! Why? just why?

I'llBuyThatForADollar · 16/06/2026 22:50

Won’t write cards until the last second (birthday, anniversary etc.) for his side of the family. I usually buy them but he does buy some. I always leave them on the side for him to write a good day before and say, here it is, with pen! To no avail! Drives me nuts!!

But but but...it's tops from the bottom and bottoms from the top! We actually had a minor fall out about this at the weekend. He claims he's always done it, I said he hadn't as he never hangs out the washing and it's wrong, he disputed this.....

Lasted all of 5 minutes, though, I re hung it.

Maternityleavelady · 16/06/2026 22:50

If a large or weird shaped item needs to go in the dishwasher he will ignore it and leave it on the side for days/numerous cycles, presumably waiting for the perfect spot to arise (or me to crack and rearrange things so it fits!) - i do the cooking, he sorts the dishwasher!

OMG this.

And folding them so carelessly that they come out of the airing cupboard all creased
