Inconsequential but HIGHLY irritating things your DH does

I’m not talking ‘fails to do any housework’ or ‘won’t parent his own kids’ but minor irritations that make you want to scream but you can’t because its so petty. For me

Refuses to use the automatic windscreen wiper. Instead he waits until he has no visibility and then manually flips the wiper on once. In heavy rain he’s doing it every couple of seconds. Just put the bloody auto wipers on!!

Unloads the dishwasher but leaves select things stacked up ‘near’ the cupboard or drawer they live in rather than putting them away. Apparently they are left there to ‘thoroughly dry’.

Rage!!!

Loads the dishwasher from front to back! Drives me bonkers!!!

Gabitule · 16/06/2026 21:51

Haha, op, do you think it’s possible that the reason why he leaves things near the cupboards/ drawers is indeed for them to dry? I don’t like putting wet mugs etc from the dishwasher in the cupboards so I tend to dry them with paper towel before putting away

Namechangeforthisdilemma1 · 16/06/2026 21:52

Not shaking washing properly so it dries all crumpled (think sleeves not shaken out etc).

And actually it is consequential because I try not to iron (which usually works if it’s hung up properly) grr!

CarrieAnnQ · 16/06/2026 21:52

My husband is brilliant but his over the top and incredibly dramatic sneezing fits make me want to kill him

Mmmmwheredidthelivetweetsgo · 16/06/2026 21:52

Almost puts the weekly shop away so freezer yes, fridge yes, but cupboard stuff near designated cupboard never in it, and god forbid anything for upstairs

MrsPapillon · 16/06/2026 21:52

Mine does the wiper thing too, it drives me insane! I’m screaming “You can’t see anything!! We’re all going to die!!!” while he flicks the wiper once every forty seconds during a torrential downpour on the motorway.

SisterMaryImmaculate · 16/06/2026 21:53

Empties the dishwasher but stacks the pots in the cupboard like one of those gravity-defying balancing stone sculptures.

Oh god I think I’m your DH. I can never sneeze once, always a minimum of 5 🫣

CaffeineDeficient · 16/06/2026 21:53

Leaves items to 'steep' in the sink, that we don't put in the dishwasher. Just fucking wash them for fucks sake. Also, related to above, then leaves them to 'dry' on the draining board. Highly fucking irritating (to me).

My DH does "performance ironing" for which he expects a big round of applause and a medal. But he irons tea towels, pyjamas, vests, even knickers. None of which need ironing.

princessbananahammock252 · 16/06/2026 21:54

Puts away things I’ve left out specifically to remind me to use it, pack it etc - (he knows I don’t usually leave things out without reason), whilst ignoring all the things he hasn’t put away because he has ADHD. It makes me so unreasonably mad!

This. Plus the incredibly loud and showy yawns he does, particularly on days when he’s had far more sleep than me.

WeddingInvitation · 16/06/2026 21:55

defrosts the stew I made and put in freezer, and he’s ’made tea’ apparently….no acknowledgement at all that the only reason there’s a fucking stew to fucking defrost is because I made it. Breathe.

Nervousb2b · 16/06/2026 21:56

Puts a bin bag in the bin without fluffing it and tucking it in nicely, and then just afterwards proceeds to put a load of rubbish in it completely oblivious to the fact that none of it has gone IN the bin bag.

Ilovecheeseyah · 16/06/2026 21:57

Bumps into me or knocks me every single time he passes me. My body winces and feels him approaching.
cant help it poor soul

Throwmoneyatit · 16/06/2026 21:58

Leaves a bit of water in the washing up dish from getting a drink etc.

Drives with his coat on and the windows open so everyone else is freezing.

Another one for the wipers. Tells me he doesn't need them as much because he's put a some special stuff on that beads...

Ireolu · 16/06/2026 21:59

Leaves plates and mugs on the side far from the sink and the dishwasher. When I moan says he wants to reuse them. Infuriating for me, acceptable for him.

Cyclingforcake · 16/06/2026 22:00

Always leaves at least one thing unwashed when doing the washing up. It’s usually something I’ve used like my travel coffee mug. No idea why but it’s highly irritating.

Notasbigasithink · 16/06/2026 22:00

Doesn't believe in wrapping up food/putting in an airtight container etc when storing leftovers in the fridge.
Imagine half a roast chicken left on a plate to 'air' 🤢🤢🤢

HangrySeal · 16/06/2026 22:00

Literally just now, puts dirty dish in sink and leaves it so I have to move it to drain the pasta noodles. Might I have one side of the sink clear!!

bunnypenny · 16/06/2026 22:00

He’s away 2-4 nights a week so a lot of the “getting the kids ready” admin falls to me.

when he’s at home, he still leaves me to do that admin, while he focuses on doing the laundry or dishwasher or whatever.

drives me nuts because at 630am that IS NOT A PRIORITY! We need to get the kids ready and out the door. The dishwasher or laundry can wait till they’re at school (as he has a whole day off to do it while I’m at work!).

Oreosareawful · 16/06/2026 22:03

Walks past stuff on the stairs that needs taking up ‘didn’t see it’ apparently

Puts saucepans in the top shelf of the dishwasher despite being told multiple times that they need to go on the bottom shelf.

Drips Toothpaste every fucking where. The floor, the sink, the mirror…

Are we married to the same person? Yes, random things just left by the side of the sink unwashed. Usually a water bottle or similar.

Leaves a pile of crumbs on the kitchen surface every time he makes toast. Every time.

This drives me absolutely insane! Especially as he doesn’t do the ironing.

Also, they don’t bloody dry properly, It’s like he doesn’t know how evaporation works…
