DH and I disagree about Soap 😳

anotherdaytosmile · Yesterday 12:27

DH has put a fresh bar of soap out today, his trusty Imperial Leather. He thinks it’s a classy soap based on his childhood perspective in the late 1970s. I think it’s one step up from carbolic. I want Jo Malone soap 😢

AIBU - imperial leather is pure luxury
AINBU - what next, waxy toilet paper?

Why Ugh? It's better than shower gel!

I shudder, use soap and shower gel. Even shower mousse. Why?! Because I like it and life’s too short. Plus you recycle the containers.

Oh what now

I know, people are bloody odd. To that poster, you know bar soap gets you cleaner? It also, if you are in a hot country, doesn't make you sweat as much as shower gel.

Tbf, we are old so maybe it’s our smell

What was the soap in an irredesent box called? I loved that stuff in the 80's

Have a soap each. Dh has his coal tar stuff and I use whichever one I like

Imperial Leather isn't coal tar. You're thinking of Wright's coal tar.
I like classic soap and fancy soap, get one either side of the basin

I assumed that everybody had left their soap bars in the 80s and now used shower gel. And yet everyone here is behaving as if bars of soap are normal, not retro. Mind blown.

Edited

It’s not retro to try to reduce single use plastic. We use bar soap, washing powder in a cardboard box, glass milk bottles…

Random321 · Yesterday 13:22

Ah I love Jo Malone so but I can't think of any scent the produce that I would like a man smelling like.

Men smell better with scents like forests, wood etc.

Let him hace his scent and you have yours!

AutisticLass2026 · Yesterday 13:22

My dh changed to Imperial last year and it actually makes him come back from work still actually smelling ok. Because other brands he tried ugh I could tell when we was coming into the house despite all the deodorants he was using to...However I'm allergic to most so have my Palmolive one...Also we recently went away for a few days and can I say by accident we found out Imperial is amazing on stains, I spilt some wine we had nothing but the soap and it took stain straight out

MagnusCanis · Yesterday 13:22

Soap is soap is soap for me.

Tangentially related bonus comment: one of the silver linings of the COVID pandemic was bars and restaurants got much better at keeping soap/handwash in their toilets.

I use bar soap in the shower daily from Highland Soap Co. I also use the shampoo bars. Luxury stuff. I won't go back to plastic bottles.

Your husband should know that the properly classy 1970s soap was Camay, not Imperial Leather. I used to love those ads with the ladies all covered in foam!

I remember Camay but we were allergic to it.

lottiegarbanzo · Yesterday 13:24

Imperial Leather is 70s/80s nostalgia soap. I didn’t know you could still get it. It always went dry and cracked near the end, in an unpleasant way.

OtterLovesItsRock · Yesterday 13:25

I like Faith in Nature soaps. You can buy a boxful.

GasPanic · Yesterday 13:25

Don't like soap that much. Hangs around getting manky.

Soap dishes also collect moisture which can lead to mould behind them.

Shower gel and liquid soap all the way.

Although I would like it if the dispensers were a bit more environmentally friendly.

Lunde · Yesterday 13:26

DH was an Imperial Leather fan - I was not. He was not a fan of feminine floral scents ... so we each had our own soap. However in recent years I have managed to get him to use liquid soaps and shower gels (green apple or lemon).

Katemax82 · Yesterday 13:26

I buy Waitrose essentials soap so yes you are being unreasonable. Save Jo Malone for body cream

Zuve · Yesterday 13:26

The best ever soap is olive oil soap, you can get it on amazon

lottiegarbanzo · Yesterday 13:26

I mean I like bars of soap- but I wouldn’t choose that one.

PinkPonyAnonymous · Yesterday 13:26

gamerchick · Yesterday 12:31

Why can't you have both?

Husband loves IL but we won't buy it as the cat goes mad licking the bath after his shower. Doesn't happen with any other soap.

☠️🤣😅😂☠️😅😅🤣😂☠️🤣😂

That is hilarious! Does your cat respond to any other soaps????

OP, my husband and I have separate soaps and shower gels because we like different scents.

Imperial leather 🤢 I hate the smell!
if he loved his ”luxury” soap let him have it and get a second soap dish for your preferred option.

I have 2 bars just for me. Detol soap for first scrub then a nice L’occitaine one for second scrub 😂😂😂 but then I’m a bit of a weirdo about getting clean

notacooldad · Yesterday 13:28

Im agreeing with others.
Its not a big deal to have your own soap. You can please yourself what you get then.

cheekynamechang3 · Yesterday 13:29

I use Pears shower gel. The smell is so nostalgic. I expect you disapprove OP.

Don't ban Imperial Leather OP, it gives your husband happy, nostalgic vibes.

This highland soap looks gorgeous. Expensive but maybe it lasts a long time.
