DH and I disagree about Soap 😳

anotherdaytosmile · 13/06/2026 12:27

DH has put a fresh bar of soap out today, his trusty Imperial Leather. He thinks it’s a classy soap based on his childhood perspective in the late 1970s. I think it’s one step up from carbolic. I want Jo Malone soap 😢

AIBU - imperial leather is pure luxury
AINBU - what next, waxy toilet paper?

I like Pears. It turns you into a beautiful princess.

I think my bar might be faulty

TheBot · 13/06/2026 12:57

I only use liquid soap in kitchen and toilet.
While I agree it's not the soap of luxury and I prefer Pears, it has one benefit. The little sticky label means you can balance it on the side of the bath and it doesn't slip off or go soggy.

Bar soap? That everyone uses? Ugh

What on earth is so ugh about that?

You're both unreasonable. Who uses bars of soap in the 21st century!?! Makes me feel a bit nauseous. 🤢

Much better for the environment and much better for your skin.

LiquoriceAllsorts2 · 13/06/2026 12:57

Nothing wrong with each having your preferences, just have one of each on the go at any time.

to me Jo malone wouldn’t be worth the money but fair enough if it’s what you want

lornad00m · 13/06/2026 12:57

I like Imperial Leather. Very gentle on my sensitive skin. Used it for years...but only in the shower. I prefer Savon de Marseille as a hand/guest soap.

NNforthispost · 13/06/2026 12:58

You’ve just reminded me to pop to TKMaxx. I love to get my soap from there - I had a vetiver and lemon soap that was a fancy thing and it’s smelled lush. Green fresh and clean. And it didn’t dry out my skin - think it was olive oil based.

Oh what now

Loubissou · 13/06/2026 12:58

I am not wasting money on Jo Malone. Overpriced and doesn't get you any cleaner than any other soap. Imperial Leather is fine.

Surgz · 13/06/2026 12:59

Buy both

BaffledAndBemusedToo · 13/06/2026 12:59

anotherdaytosmile · 13/06/2026 12:36

I genuinely never thought of that. You should work in the diplomatic core

Why would soap make you nauseous? Such a strange reaction … personally find it weird not to have any but get that you could use shower gel instead.

Can’t stand the smell of imperial leather actually.
Pears soap though- lovely!
I usually go to tk maxx and stock up on bar soaps

Another tk maxx soap fan. Although some of those bars never seem to wear out, I dread to think what they're made from.

AuntieDolly · 13/06/2026 13:00

Does it still have the paper label on it? I wouldn’t pay Jo Malone prices, but I do like a nice soap from TKMaxx. The old fashioned soaps turn my stomach

TomatoSandwiches · 13/06/2026 13:01

I had my mouth washed out with imperial leather soap as a child so I vote for anything else!

Yes, just use single use plastic instead.

Have a soap each. Dh has his coal tar stuff and I use whichever one I like

This. It’s a no brainer.

FatRosie · 13/06/2026 13:02

Own brand fragrance free from Waitrose/Lidl/Aldi or
Tesco Extracts Lemon & Mandarin Soap 4X125g - Tesco Groceries

@Marycontrarygarden , Bar soap? That everyone uses? Ugh As opposed to a dispenser that everybody's grubby hands has been on?

Washingupdone · 13/06/2026 13:03

The problem with Jo M. is that the small stays with you until you next wash your hands. If you wash your hands before eating a meal, eating with a knife and fork, it’s the soap I can smell not the food, it must be worse eating hand food.

LaurieFairyCake · 13/06/2026 13:03

We use different soap, DH is industrial strength Palmolive cos he’s a greasy smelly bloke.

And I use posh triple milled Italian soap.

Why ?

CosiFannyTutte · 13/06/2026 13:04

I love Imperial Leather soap.
I like Palmolive too.
I love soap from L'Occitane now and again.

goingtotown · 13/06/2026 13:04

Imperial Leather soap, it sits on the label so it doesn’t go soggy. Team DH.

FeliciaFancybottom · 13/06/2026 13:04

Faith in Nature Lavender scent is delicious, and it lasts for ages.

EvelynBeatrice · 13/06/2026 13:05

It’s actually my DH’s preferred brand too! He claims to get ‘sore skin’ with other brands. I’m going to make him try Sanex bar soap instead which has a lovely scent …

Im very fussy about bar soap too. Jo Malone you say …..
