What's hated on MN, but insanely popular in real life?

Disney World
Starbucks, Costa, Nero etc
Center Parcs
A sensible political stance
McDonald's

What else?

As someone that is absurdly liberal myself I have actually noticed the opposite. There are a lot of very right wing posters and views on here and it’s been getting worse of late.

I think MN used to lean quite liberal but not anymore.

I agree, MN seems pretty right wing to me (not Reform right, but pre Kemi Conservative right). Obviously not all, but I would say a majority.

Children (toddlers especially)

Most enjoyable things.

Food, parties, friends.

Trainup · 12/06/2026 11:02

Hen dos! I have never been on one that isn’t a lot of fun with people I love. Spending time together and laughing. I’ve just said no to any to don’t fancy and the bride has always been fine about it.

KeyLimeCake · 12/06/2026 11:03

Alcohol, much better to sit home and smoke weed.

People who can't drive or who ever express a weakness when it comes to driving. Anyone who ever starts a driving thread is wrong.

Gambling - even a raffle ticket at the school fair will definitely lead to addiction.

Wedding invitations, that MN views as akin to being slapped in the face and personally insulted.

Drag queens! I don't know anyone in real life who doesn't love a drag act

Whereas I absolutely loathe them and don't know anyone who would ever dream of going to a drag show.

So actually MN probably reflects the spread of opinions that there are in real life.

Buying clothes high street brands like Newlook or Primark or dare I say it Shein. It always cracks me up on here that whenever someone asks for a suggestion for say a bikini the replies are always links to items that are £150 plus.. Never, I got a nice one in Primark for a tenner.

I would LOVE to buy a ten quid bikini from primark but alas my chest never fits in them. I have to settle for ten quid bikini tops on vinted.

Money

You can have made loads of sacrifices and worked really hard, long hours and 6 days a week, but if you come on here and mention it, or ask a question about spending some of your hard earned cash then you are privileged and entitled.

It’s called Tall Poppy Syndrome.

This is where I am Mumsnet.
Most people I know like them as well but really really don't!

Upstartled · 12/06/2026 11:10

Siblings. Apparently most on MN would have immediately swapped them out for a pony or a room to ones own. Meanwhile, irl, siblings have lifelong friendships and bring huge value to your life.

Dogs!

So bored of the dogs are mean, dogs are scary, dogs are dirty, dog bit me for no reason at all, a random child and an elderly man whilst we were just sat there in our Bentley and minding our own business posts.......

Not cooking from scratch every night
Eating UPF’s
Answering the door or your phone without needing a 5 year warning first
Shop bought bread, cakes and biscuits
Dogs existing
Cats roaming

What is a 'sensible political stance'? If this is code for Reformy views, then yes you are BVU.
