What's hated on MN, but insanely popular in real life?

Disney World
Starbucks, Costa, Nero etc
Center Parcs
A sensible political stance
McDonald's

What else?

Women who's answer to every tiny problem in a relationship isn't "LTB".

You haven't noticed MN is absurdly liberal, if you haven't I suspect you are probably one of them!

So being conservative is a sensible political stance? OK.

I often wonder if the whole trans debate has been fabricated by MN to keep it in business

Attending A&E only to be done if your head is falling off. Otherwise go see your GP

Also, your head falling off is hardly an emergency, is it?

A&E tends to be very polarised.

Evening only wedding invites.
Paid bars at weddings
Fascinators at weddings.
Not paying for everyone’s meal if you invite them to a restaurant for your birthday.
School PTA’s
Being disappointed if grandparents won’t help at all (such as occasional baby sitting not weekly childminding)
None-Russell Group universities
Not taking maths A level.
Taking sociology GCSE / A level.
Teens getting 4/5/6’s in their GCSE’s rather than a clutch of 8-9’s

Mumsnet really does make me realise there are a lot of people out there with quite odd views!

"Knocking on doors" "Answering doors" 😂

I'd say benefits - seems to be a lot of hatred and benefit bashing on here, and I say that as someone who is not on them.

Allowing older children to sort things out for themselves.

Yes.

Because the Conservatives were so eminently sensible. I give you Boris Johnson. And Liz Truss.

Pulling a sickie.

MN has conniptions about taking time off work for any reason other than your leg has been severed and you're bleeding out, or you have sepsis.

(But also, don't go into work if you have a cold because you might kill someone vulnerable.)

colleague I work with tells me when he’s going to pull one. Can’t say I’m worried about it. I’ve pulled one or two in my time.

Massively disagree.

I think this might depend on how long you’ve used MN. I’ve been here for maybe18 years now and I see many more right wing posts/posters than there used to be. But I think that’s partly because this site is so mainstream now.

(fwiw, I am left of centre, but generally a sensible centrist - politics is all about extremes these days, no room for us now!)

I'm not sure I accept the premise of a "Mumsnet view" or that Mumsnet is "absurdly liberal": in my experience all human life is on Mumsnet, from far right to far left with everything in between. That said:

  • The words "hubs" and "holibobs" seem to whip people into paroxysms of fury on here. I don't love them but I don't really understand the depth of hate they evoke: there are worse phrases.
  • London: a lot of people talk about London like its Mogadishu (while conveniently ignoring that the deprivation and rioting dominating the UK mostly happens outside London
  • School mums: a large proportion of the Mumsnet audience thinks most other mothers are part of a large coordinated conspiracy to exclude them and their children from everything.
  • "People" in general and "friends" specifically, as in "I hate people", and "I avoid people" and, my favourite "I don't need friends, I've got my little family" (boak).

Add to that Kemi Badenoch - she thinks equality is dangerous and divisive, thinks Rupert Lowe is great and identifies with Daenerys Targaryen. 😬
