I know many people don't like Owen Jones, but I found this article deeply disturbing.

I am a child of immigrants, and my children are mixed race. So things like this are really starting to worry me.

I completely understand why people are angry at the current rate and quality of immigration (my own family are also disgruntled with it). But Restore want to deport even those who have citizenship.

And I am genuinely concerned that things are going to get worse than Farage if the government don't get a grip on this.

I haven't read all the replies but I'm a Restore supporter. Like 99% of people in the world I am the most concerned about my children's future and prioritise that. None of the govts recently seem to do that and I don't see why my children should have to compete with a constant churn of foreigners (sometimes people who despise us and have nothing in common and cost alot of money)for jobs, houses and resources, apart from anything it is totally inconsistent with the govts focus on net zero where they are actually increasing the population and energy consumption. We are a mid ranking country for GDP per capita (around 25th and falling rapidly, about to be overtaken by Poland which was a poor country in my youth) so none of this makes sense.

If Restore were actually elected, then both your children and mine would be totally fucked.

I find that a problem with the conversation on this topic is it seems like there are a lot of people who have no idea that it is completely normal for immigration in many differernt countries to have these kinds of requirements.

If they allow people to become citizens then they have the rights of citizenship (unless it was fraudulently gained.) But up until then there are any number of stages an immigrant can be at depending on what the basis of their being there is, where they will have varying requirements.

It's also odd to me that people don't expect to go live elsewhere and always have the exact rights as citizens in terms of employment and benefits, but they seem to think that's immoral in their own countries.

My own country has made crazy changes to the immigration system over the last 10 years. Many of the people ho have come are nice, good people, but it's hard not to ask, why have them been given PR? My immediate manager is a good example - she is a great worker, smart and a contributor to the community. But she works in an industry where it is very difficult for our own graduates to find work. It's true our organisation struggled to find someone for the role - because they were massively under-paying. Which the whole sector has a serious problem with which goes right up to the government funding level.... it starts to look like its rather a strategy rather than a bug.... Similarly one of my staff - again great guy, does a good job. But is working a job that any bright local person could do without a lot of higher education - the exact kind of job that is short in our economy now. He is also not really making quite enough to live (again, shit pay in this sector) and therefore ends up having to sometimes access resources like food banks. No one in our sector is paying enough taxes to cover the services we use.

Everyone can see what's happening and just like the UK, if the government doesn't get a handle on it, it will drive more radical voting in the end, and it's not because sudden;y everyone is racist.

There are absolutely now people who would like to send people with PR home, because they are taking up local jobs local people could do when there is high unemployment, and local homes when there are a lot of people homeless.

Except it was the European count which required it, the UK refused.

But I think the chances that European countries in general will be ok with that is small.

This is the type of decision that will also strike significant blows to these kinds of European institutions.

It truly would lift the nation if we could get rid of all th money laundering businesses on every high street and get rid of all the non English speaking unemployed people in our council housing. The whole morale of the country would lift. These people don’t contribute to our society, they drag it down.

Our council is now Reform... from Labour.
They are prioritising this. Labour did nothing but line their own pockets.
There's been a marked improvement .. I am quietly impressed.

You have been misled. There is no council in the UK that is removing non English speakers from council housing. This is not something they have the power to do, so would be acting illegally. You may be getting confused with what Farage has said he'd like to do with what's actually being done.

Can you be more specific? I've not read anything on the news and I'm sure Reform would be promoting their successes.

No address needed. Just some proof. Maybe an article in a local paper, press release by the council perhaps

Where did I say they were moving non-English speaking people?
Currently they are removing chewing gum from pavements and replacing Yorkshire stone slabs where the previous Labour council tarmac'ed it.
And seeing as the council grants licences for businesses they are well within their remit to block vape shops.

You quoted a poster saying they wanted just that, and stated your Reform council are doing it. If you actually meant they're out scraping chewing gum off pavements, then you should have been plain. Removing chewing gum is a laudable thing. We none of us want a sticky sole.

Then you should have been more specific. It looked like you were saying that the council were getting rid of none English speaking tenants

A desire is very different from actually doing it.

@Paganpentacle I am in a non-Yorkshire part of Oop North. Our 3 local Conservative councillors defected to Reform a couple of years ago, and since then I too have been impressed by the extremely robust way they have gone after the horrid vape shops. Although tbh when I realised how easy the process was (essentially, walk in, ask for cheap cigarettes, purchase 600 from a bag under the counter and then alert the LA) and how many simply did not reopen after being raided, I am pretty disgusted that councillors of any other stripe did not attempt to tackle them.

DH is an immigrant from the ME and a Muslim to boot. He's voting for Reform in 2029.
