I know many people don't like Owen Jones, but I found this article deeply disturbing.

I am a child of immigrants, and my children are mixed race. So things like this are really starting to worry me.

I completely understand why people are angry at the current rate and quality of immigration (my own family are also disgruntled with it). But Restore want to deport even those who have citizenship.

And I am genuinely concerned that things are going to get worse than Farage if the government don't get a grip on this.

London was better before. It will easily improve without the overcrowding. It will be a true relief to all real Londoners.

What's your method for rooting out real Londoners from fake Londoners?

That’s a question from a non Londoner.

Ah. I see. Got it. Anyone who asks awkward questions is not a real Londoner.

I think as well ..a lot of people voting reform/ restore
Were pro immigration..years ago ...we could see the positive impact of qualified professionals coming to live in UK ,but then it just got out of hand ..services were stretched, less council houses to go round ..and more people flooding in ..
Slowly things started to seem unfair to people already here , getting put to the back of the list for housing for example
When you have whole families in temporary accommodation for years and years ,no chance of a house and a garden for their family...you wonder why the government let's in more people,to add to the pressure of housing.
When a lot of people coming in are claiming benefits ..taking out ..rather than adding in to the system.. people tend to get twitchy.
Plus try to raise the issue and your called racist
It's not good ..
I don't think a labour government has the balls to make any significant changes

We shall likely see, won't we? I have looked at the Restore manifesto. Reads like it was written by a five-year-old.

No concrete proposals, a lot of rhetoric and ranting, some suggestions that already exist! Reminds me of the cock- up that was Brexit. That worked out well.

Immigration has declined massively in the last two years.

Except immigration law has changed a lot since the 90s (become much stricter) and Labour have reduced immigration by a lot. This will have a negative impact on things like prison staffing and university funding, but as you say it's what a lot of people want. Since the 90s we also had a long period of austerity - a deliberate defending of services and housing and several major crises. So it's not just immigration. The problem is, if they cut immigration and it doesn't get better Restore aren't going to turn round and admit the immigrants weren't the real cause of housing shortages.

In some ways I have much less patience for people who were previously pro-immigration now supporting extreme policies like remigration or changing the rules of residence for people already here. There's something iffy about making a deal with people (do this, this and this to get permanent residency) and then, after they have done all those things, threatening to change the agreement. People that wanted migration and now want to remove rights from those same migrants aren't very trustworthy. That's a different thing to changing the rules for newer arrivals. But it's what is being pushed for from Restore and Restore supporters..it's not racist, but I would say its kind of shitty

Sliverswan · 17/07/2026 11:48

So if people didn't agree with that part of their policy..there is no other alternative for people to vote for ..who want immigration limited
At the moment it's slim pickings choosing a political party

No one is saying immigrants are the cause of the housing situation
That's bad planning on behalf of the last few governments and the conservatives selling of council houses and not building more ..
When a country can't house the people already living here ...it doesn't make any sense to take in more people..

Paganpentacle · 17/07/2026 12:09

Its not legal migration thats the problem is it?
When someone turns up claiming asylum for spurious reasons or lying that they are homosexual, has 'lost' their ID, has nothing to offer, cant /wont speak the language and treats women as pieces of meat we are perfectly entitled to say No, we don't want you here.

But do people not want them here ?
I think a lot of the left think everyone who wants to live here , should be able to live here
Regardless of integration or how they treat women.. because that's their culture so we must accept it .

Restore and Reform both have quite a lot to say against legal migrants, as well. Including high earning ones.

Restore suggests anyone employing a legal foreign national must also hire a British born apprentice. Way to tank the economy and decimate the NHS, finance, science, the care sector... Reform wants to abolish ILRs retrospectively. So your well integrating NHS doctor on an ILR will be chucked out.

We do not have to accept it, and hopefully the tide is turning.
'Their' culture can stay where it belongs.

Well it's not, is it? Labour and Conservatives have committed to limiting immigration and Labour has reduced it. Tired of hearing people frame all other parties as pro unlimited immigration as an excuse for their support for right wing extremist parties.

No they won't be chucking NHS doctors out
I've read the policy to
No one integrated ,earning ,contributing , fitting in ..is going anywhere
He's talking about People not born here ,not working, and sitting in council houses all day not learning English.
No one contributing,to the system, fully integrated is going anywhere

Have they? Don't know about Reform but Restore are not against migrants that do actually add to the economy, not drain it.
Can you show me where they say what you say they are saying?
Remember... nobody that wasn't born here has an unassailable right to be here. I/we cannot just rock up where we like. Hoops to jump and all that.

But what's their track record????
Have either of them done what they said in the past ?
Do people have faith in them to limit immigration?
Have they done as they promised in the past ?
Or have they done as they pleased

Sliverswan · 17/07/2026 13:03

I'm fully versed n both sides
I've got 3 family members currently moving from reform to restore
And two green..
I used ...untill the boob guy ...to vote green.
Currently I like Kimi ..but I don't trust the pack of them not to remove her if she got to number 10

Exactly.
Lip service- no real action.

Boomer55 · 17/07/2026 13:11

Reform might get in power. Restore won’t.

Any of them can put what they want in their manifesto and then do something completely different when in power ..
I really really like Kimi ...but that's watching her in action taking down starma .
I know very little about conservative policy because home is always discussing the extremes ..

Do you think ?
Nigel seems to be in self destruction mode
He's thrown his toys out of the pram ..for what ..for why ..
I can see the bin winning ,and I can see Nigel throwing another tantrum and walking away from politics
That gives restore am immediate in ..scooping up all Nigel's lost souls

I have more faith in both of them than I do in the R's parties. Because in both cases there is a recognition that its complex requiring a serise of actions that take time and have other consequences, so its a marathon not a sprint.
I have a lot more faith in an intelligent considered approach from an experienced party than a load of flannel about towing boats back to France (which cannot legally be done without much complex change) and manifestos that are wish lists rather than costed and explained plans.
Neither Reform nor Restore have a track record. And standing there promising to stop the boats can be done by any fool. Where Reform have some authority in councils their performance is extremely poor. Whether you support their policies or not they have shown themselves incapable of achieving anything much at all.

Where have they said they will tow the boats back to France ...I've not read that ..that's nonsense..not going to happen.
Go of their policy..not general mouthing off .
Any party at the start ,has nothing for anyone to go on .
Getting in to power ,any party can say one thing and do something different, they are not held to account, and unfortunately, not made to do what they promise
