Getting rage about this effing weather

MagdelenaMorrison · Today 17:16

I am so angry.
Typing this with yet another torrential rain downpour as we speak. Left my back door open when it was dry clear sky weather and went upstairs to put laundry away, came back down to a black sky, monsoon downpour and a flooded kitchen floor from the rain being blown into my kitchen by howling wind. This is the 4th torrential downpour of the day. All 4 monsoon like.
So far in the SE we have had 10 days straight of torrential rain and battering winds, except for a light reprieve on Sunday but even that was bloody freezing cold. Over the past week I've watched the ferocious hurricane like winds blast all my different roses in full bloom off of their stems, it's snapped all my foxgloves in half, snapped branches off my Budleia, snapped all the stems off of my Salvias, tore my 2 hanging baskets off my wall and landed them across my garden, ruined. I've had my wheelie bins blown from my driveway down the street on their sides, crashing into neighbours' cars. One of our big heavy roof tiles got ripped off by gale force winds on Saturday and landed on our drive and smashed to smithereens, thank God none of us were standing on the drive at the time. I can't hang any washing out cos it won't stop raining.
I put all our coats away during the brief mini heatwave in half term and now we're all wearing them again.
I hate, hate, hate this weather. 10 days of it in June!!!!! Summer!!!!
Just looked at the forecast for tomorrow and it's rain all day again.
I can't cope, it's making me really miserable. Our summers are already short enough as it is, without this.
We didn't even have a warm May (except for the 1 week of half term). 😤

Are you new to the UK? It always rains in June.

It's roasting over the weekend in London

It’s not the rain as such it’s the fact that it’s raining and windy one minute, then calm and sunny , then almost hot, then hailstones! That is not typical June weather

Tiddlywinks63 · Today 18:29

I’m cold. The wood burner is lit, I’m wearing four long-sleeved layers, thick socks and wrapped in a blanket.
Even when the sun is out it’s a bitterly cold northerly wind, and the rain is monsoon like.
Flaming June my arse.

Sartre · Today 18:30

I was WFH today and decided to go for a lunchtime run. It had been raining a bit in the morning but had brightened up so figured I’d be fine. Got half way through and the biggest downpour happened complete with hailstones. Since I was half way, I had to complete the 5k to get back home. Suffice to say I was a drowned rat. Cars driving past didn’t help splashing me a few times, wankers.

Same, I have the heating on… DH is working away else he’d make me turn it off purely because it’s June but Christ, it’s cold.

It is not 'roasting'. The latest Met Office forecast reckons it's going to reach the dizzy heights of 24 degrees - so warm but not heatwave territory.

Maybe this will help....

I agree.

Twinkeltime · Today 18:48

@Twinkeltime

why? How?!

Ive always loved it even as a child i loved bad weather.
Storms fog frost rain thunder the lot all the weather mumsnet hates i love it.
Rougher the storms the better howling winds bliss.

LlynTegid · Today 18:49

It is a surprise though to be this week, as Wimbledon does not start for another three weeks.

@hairbearbunches

the heat really hasn’t been too intense
it hasn’t even been warm
rubbish

Global warming is just warming........ it means changes to the weather patterns resulting in more heat, more wind, more rain and intense cold spells. The trouble is that it means too much of one thing at any one time.

Look at the last 4yrs here in the UK.
Intense 40degree heat.
Two consecutive wet winters (although granted they were not very cold).
Drought last year.
Hottest Spring days on record.

Not a good outlook.☹️

Harassedmum123 · Today 18:52

Totally agree. I love summer so much and feel so disappointed with the weather we have been dealt. I’m already panicking that it’s the longest day in just over a week’s time and then the nights will start drawing in. Is it too much to ask for just a few dry sunny days.

Vicliz24 · Today 18:57

I’m with you OP it’s hideous. Am sat here in a fleece and Uggs and the heating has clicked on for the umpteenth time this week . It is ridiculous and making me really miserable. We’re almost at the longest day !!

Excellentsausages · Today 18:58

Waitingfordoggo · Today 17:54

I know it’s annoying but

a) we live in the UK where changeable weather is very much the thing.

b) Changeable weather has become more frequent thanks to the climate emergency and it is likely to get more and more extreme.

We sort of have to accept that we’ve fucked the planet I’m afraid.

Agreed, sadly. Maybe more useful for OP to channel their energy into local wildlife trust volunteering, tree planting, that kind of thing? We can't control the weather but it might feel like helping a bit?

ThePieceHall · Today 19:02

topcat2014 · Today 17:18

If it makes you feel better we're on our summer holiday in Wales

Sorry, that made me laugh. I hope you are managing to make the best of it?

ArcticBells · Today 19:03

No watering the garden- bliss

Sidebeforeself · Today 19:05

Can’t OP have a moan about the weather ( let’s face it a national pastime!) without a lecture on climate change?!

Wednesdaysotherchild · Today 19:09

hairbearbunches · Today 17:55

Hate to be that person, but this is climate change and you'd better get used to it because it is only going to get worse. The rain is more intense, the heat is more intense. There is a famous quote by a climate scientist from decades ago - i can't remember his name - and he said 'we are messing with the triggers that cause climate change and the results are likely to be ferocious'.

Buckle up, people. And stay lucky.

This, basically. And the super El Nino might make it even worse soon as well…

ReflectingPool · Today 19:12

No watering the garden- bliss

Closeted up with my 2 year old gc, we had to wait till it stopped raining to go out and water the garden. It's his new thing that he loves doing and he was desperate to get out there. I too was desperate to get him out there. Cabin Fever

Hapagirl48 · Today 19:16

I’m loving the words you are using and I’m with you OP. Scotland here, I’m not from here, I married in and threatening to leave my DH because of the weather 😂. On the plus side, I’ve never appreciated a warm breeze like I do now, as rare as it is. My kids are Scottish bred though and start wailing about it being roasting every time it goes above 18 degrees. I despair.

RobinEllacotStrike · Today 19:43

What is the point of being so angry at things completely out of anyone’s control?

it’s weather. It is what it is. It’s not happening to you OP. You need to find some acceptance about it. It is what it is.

the wind fucks me off (I’m coastal SE) but I use it as a personal challenge to be accepting of it and modify my behaviour accordingly

PrincessOfPreschool · Today 19:48

Twinkeltime · Today 17:48

Sorry everyone but i love this sort of weather.

What do you love about it? (I too love it as a one - off but the novelty has worn off now). Do you love it however often it happens?

the80sweregreat · Today 19:50

I like it cooler. I can’t abide it too hot.
it is meant to cheer up this weekend, but hopefully not too hot ! I really can’t handle it.

mumofoneAloneandwell · Today 19:57

Yabu, its fine.

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · Today 20:02

I really don’t care if it rains. I hated the heatwave we had at the end of May. That made me totally miserable. I loathe being hot!

LaurieFairyCake · Today 20:03

We’ve got 10 days of hideously hot weather 25-27 degrees starting Friday in London 😟

Too hot for the dogs, too hot for me.
