What popular places are overrated?

Following on from another thread, what places do you consider overrated that are popular?

Hotel Chocolat = over priced, at best average tasting, would much rather Cadbury's at a fraction of the price.

Amorino = our local one gets packed, as in queue's outside the shop packed. Over priced, very average ice cream, that they seem to be able to charge a premium for because you can mix flavors and it's a cue little flower shape.

Dominoes, Pappa Johns, Pizza Hut = unless there is a deal on very expensive for what tastes very processed pizza.

It's Sagar in Catherine Street. Their masala dosa is so good.

A bit more expensive is Namaste Kitchen in Camden. Not totally veggie but they do have a lot of veggie items on their menu.

Lyme Regis is my pet hate. Too many tourists, awful parking and not really anything there. Bridport is much nicer with lots of interesting shops and not far from West Bay.
Bristol isn't that bad - I've never been accosted or assaulted by beggars or druggies and the students are not all public school nor do they bray though they may walk in groups along narrow pavements near the university. They're really nice!
Go to Avebury rather than Stonehenge. And there are plenty of lovely Cotswold villages and towns so you don't have to go to Bourton-on-the Water, which really isn't worth the trouble. I should imagine Jeremy Clarkson's farm shop is also overrated but I've never been there (is it even still going?). Don't know what his pub is like either.

Christmas markets in the UK. Same stalls of overpriced tatt on repeat, ie wooden decorations, personalised leather goods, dream catchers, repeat

Our town has several Starbucks and Costas, would much rather support local cafes/businesses

I was with you until you said that Cadbury's is nicer! Cadbury's is horrid now, I don't buy it anymore

I agree with Dublin. It was unremittingly wet though, which didn’t help.

The Ivy is style over substance. The decor and the staff uniforms look good, but there it ends. We arrived 15 minutes early for a booking and, rather than suggesting a drink at the bar, we were told to go away and come back 15 minutes later.

Went last year expecting nice touristy beach town with lots of interesting shops. Was an absolute dump.

Scary to climb though....

St Ives in Cornwall? One of my favourite holiday destinations! But definitely better not to go during peak summer season.

Macdonalds , Costa, Starbucks

Windermere - possibly the most rubbish part of the Lake District but perpetually rammed with tourists. You don't even get the kind of epic mountain views that you can from other lakes like Buttermere or Ullswater, and they're always quieter. Luckily there are vast areas of the Lakes that are so mind-bendingly beautiful, that it's easy just to ignore the tourist trap of Windermere and the immediate area.

Butlins (crappy, overpriced, not nice to stay somewhere where there’s needles shoved down the sides of beds and clear rat droppings)
Park dean (we were at one and someone go shot in the caravan next door)
Any shop that sells “naice” clothes like joules, M&S and boundary mills. It’s all horrifically overpriced gross blouses and mum jeans in my opinion. I hate how the clothes make everyone look like a clone, there’s no individuality.

I go to the Betty's in Ilkley quite a bit when I am over that way visiting an elderly relative. I really like it, both the shop and the cafe. The Betty's at the RHS gardens at Harlow Carr (near Harrogate) is always busy.

Loved Bettys when i went.....20 years ago.... still love m and s but the food isnt as good as when i was a kid and my mum used to buy delicious treats from there....lets be honest. Nothings as good as it used to.be inless you pay a fortune

Especially for the opera in late summer. Watching Aida on a warm evening at 11pm with a glass of fizz or aperol.

I’ve always wanted to go to Miller and Carter, I don’t think it’s low end, it’s very expensive!

I really want to go with DD, but it’s way out of my budget.

Thats the thing about Miller and Carter, they are low end AND expensive. They market themselves as aspirational to poor people (of whom I am one!). So those people save up and think they are having a treat when in fact they will get a far better steak for less money at an independent place. In my town there is an Italian restaurant that does incredible fillet steak for about £10 less than M&C and their wine is cheaper and better too!

I’m very much a plain pub food sort of person, Steak Pie in particular. I very rarely go out though, so I’m not too aware of local independent restaurants.

Not bothered about the price of wine though, as I don’t drink alcohol! Only soft drinks.

Go to Venice in winter, we went for a week in January - freezing, blue skies and sunshine, no queues, no cruise ship passengers, absolutely amazing. Creepy as can be at night, it was like being in Don’t Look Now, loved it!
