AIBU to feel deeply unsettled by the Southampton protest scenes?

1000 replies

HopelessPessimist · Yesterday 19:02

Southampton protest against police, huge crowd, Tommy Robinson whipping everyone into a frenzy and saying "this IS about race"

Other speakers declaring that England is a Christian country. The Lords Prayer chanted by every speaker. The leader of UKIP saying he will deport all migrants and make government Christian. The leaders of the protest saying they are being pushed by the police cordon, while the camera angle shows the police haven't moved. The leaders of the protest mocking the female police officer who are taking over a shift from another police officer in the cordon "They're replacing all the men with women!"

This is awful. It feels like the start of civil war. Maybe human beings just aren't supposed to go decades without a fight.

That’s not racial profiling that’s class profiling.

Not when it's in the context of referring to white, working class people who are objecting to immigration. They're always referred to with the most disgusting language that would never be used towards another group. Regardless of the rights or wrongs of objecting to immigration, there's no need to use that type of derogatory language.

We were talking about the police not doing anything for the victims for fear of being called racist!! Keep up!

Maybe phrase your posts more clearly?

The race baiters and gaslighters are missing the point. Police didn’t believe the white kid on the ground that he had been stabbed and he could breathe and then proceeded to drag him across the drive and arrest him. Despite what they could see.

Yet they believed the Sikh guy that he had experienced racism. Despite having not seen it.

Oh they aren’t missing the point, they know full well what they are doing. They are, like you said - Race baiters and gaslighters and that’s exactly what they’re doing

When Henry told them he's been stabbed an officer said "don't think so mate"

He said don't think you have mate as he was checking his back. Watch the video

errr no maybe you shouldn’t jump on posts where I’m having a conversation with someone else and then twist it!

The white police are terrified of being called racist? Even when disproportionately strip searching black and brown children, disproportionately stopping and searching black and brown people are disproportionately releasing to media criminal mugshots of black suspects?

Yeah…the data suggests it’s not so straightforward.

Source of your data......?

People are understandably furious- this is what happens when you demonise the working class while they bear the brunt of the downsides of mass immigration - it's what happens when there is evident two tier policing
I hope you're angry that an Islamic terrorist was able to enter Manchester arena and detonate a bomb because security were too scared to racially profile him- he was seen but not stopped
And I presume you're as angry at the globalise the intifada hate marches that have been a feature of UK life since Hamas brutalised young adults at a music festival-
or do you reserve your anger for the "oiks"

Some people are very selective about the causes they support over others who are equally oppressed. No Jews, No News seems to be the mindset.
Say what you like about Tommy Robinson but at least he acknowledged Rhiannon Whytes family, unlike Starmer and his cronies. Not a bloody peep out of them

I feel far more unsettled as a parent of white young adults in a country where police are more concerned about being called racist than protecting people against violence.

Edited

Exactly….me too.

The police surely are trained not to take account of anyone getting a version of events across in these types of scenarios without assessing the situation in front of them with an open mind initially, and making sure all those there are safe and cared for appropriately.

Absolutely this. It's not impossible to assess a situation, deal with an injured person appropriately and not be accused of racism. The handcuffs were an utterly baffling action. He posed zero violence or flight risk.

Why didn't he believe him? I mean someone cuffed him and his hands are paper white from blood loss.

The leader of UKIP saying he will deport all migrants and make government Christian.

The irony of continuing to impose a Middle Eastern religion - Christianity - on a modern Western nation is completely lost on these cretins.

The basis of this country is built on Christianity, and it has been since St Augustine arrived at the end of the 6th century.

I challenge you to pick up the Bible, and you will see just how much of the language you use every day is taken straight out of it. Someone saying we don't need Christianity in a modern world is like a fish saying that they don't need water. You live in it, and have no idea how much of our civilisation is built upon it.

Lindsay Hoyle ordered the Government to deliver a statement about Henry Novak. So no, a speech is not appropriate enough.

I don’t understand. What’s wrong with Lindsay Hoyle ordering the government to do a statement about Henry Nowak? And what else should the government do? I am genuinely curious about your thoughts. What else do you want to happen?

Yes, the Far Right are out in force this week, and on Mumsnet it seems.
I abhor the murder and think the police reaction was totally wrong, but I'm not a thick racist so I don't feel the need to go on a violent, racist protest. I suppose it's the Farage- Robinson- Lucy Connolly supporters for the most part, ignoring the wishes of the Nowak family. They explicitly said they don't want these protests to take place.

Edited

I completely agree.

Why is it when race is involved that these ‘men’ decide to protest.

What about the baby that was killed and SA by its adoptive parents - where is the protest for him.

What about the Beastie house and the multiple failures of the services involved - where is the protest against them.

Where were all these men when Sarah Everard was killed.
They weren’t violently protesting for change then.

On average 18 people die in police custody in the UK every year.
They have never protested over police brutality before, so why now.

I am all for peaceful protests when it’s necessary but it makes me sick when these ‘men’ prey on people’s grief to push their ridiculous agenda.

It’s embarrassing and I don’t understand how people supporting it aren’t embarrassed by their own stupidity.

It's the usual sixth form posturing offensiveness against Christianity, when they'd be the first to shout about Islamophobia.

A boy lying on the ground, not being aggressive, actually he was submissive, saying he has been stabbed and can't breathe?

Your attempt to play down the situation says something about you and I would question your ability for empathy

Its horrible and I genuinely feel for the lad and his family but peoples anger is massively misplaced

Here are the things I would say about Tommy Robinson.

His main criminal offences and legal violations include…

Assault (2005 & 2011): Convicted of assaulting an off-duty police officer in 2005 (12 months imprisonment). Convicted again in 2011 for headbutting a man at a rally in Blackburn.

Public Order & Rioting (2011): Handed a 12-month community order with unpaid work for leading a brawl involving over 100 football fans in Luton.

Immigration & Fraud (2012–2014): Jailed for 10 months in 2013 for attempting to enter the US on a friend's passport. Sentenced to 18 months in 2014 for mortgage fraud.

Contempt of Court (2018–2025): Jailed multiple times for filming inside court precincts and violating injunctions. Most notably, he admitted to 10 breaches of a High Court injunction in 2024 and served an 18-month sentence.

Stalking (2021): Issued a five-year Stalking Protection Order after harassing a journalist and her partner.

Because they shouldn't have needed to be told by the Speaker to say something.

Really?

Don't you think that it should have been made by the Prime Minister? Instead, he had his arm twisted and he was forced to make a statement. So much for looking out for your people.

Christianity and the white race are the two easiest targets. Charlie Kirk's murder displayed the most vulgar acts of verbal cannibalism I have ever seen.

The marches in support of Gaza are NOT antisemitic. They do attract a lot of antisemites, which is awful, but in themselves they are absolutely not antisemitic.

Let’s not get the thread taken over by Palestine/anti-semitism. It’s not what the threads about and it’s not relevant.

youalright · Yesterday 21:47

Why just his back?

Because then they got distracted by the blood on his face and thought he thought he had been stabbed there then he lost consciousness and they called the ambulance. It was very quick if you watch the video
