AIBU to feel deeply unsettled by the Southampton protest scenes?

1000 replies

HopelessPessimist · Yesterday 19:02

Southampton protest against police, huge crowd, Tommy Robinson whipping everyone into a frenzy and saying "this IS about race"

Other speakers declaring that England is a Christian country. The Lords Prayer chanted by every speaker. The leader of UKIP saying he will deport all migrants and make government Christian. The leaders of the protest saying they are being pushed by the police cordon, while the camera angle shows the police haven't moved. The leaders of the protest mocking the female police officer who are taking over a shift from another police officer in the cordon "They're replacing all the men with women!"

This is awful. It feels like the start of civil war. Maybe human beings just aren't supposed to go decades without a fight.

You think the white police officers were racist towards the white male?

Do you know what racism means?

They disbelieved & mistreated him and left him to die because he was white and the murderer was brown and accused him of racist abuse. Call it racism, call it being anti-white. We can all see what happened.

It's quite obvious I am saying both are being downplayed.

It’s an awful comparison to make, because both are terrible in their own right. And what you’re trying to say is not obvious at all.

Also, who has antisemitism been downplayed by? Certainly not by this government. One of the main things I like about Keir Starmer’s leadership is his absolute clarity - which is exactly as it should be - that all forms of antisemitism are completely unacceptable.

How do you help someone you can't get to if they are between a car and a wall

Ummmm but they managed to handcuff him when he was between a car and a wall! So they COULD get to him.

RubyGoose99 · Yesterday 21:04

I've reported and suggest others do too.

No one can be that inhumane.

Reported for what disagreeing with you

And they looked for stab wounds and called an ambulance.

Barely: when he said he'd been stabbed, the murderer (or a family member) said "No he hasn't" and the police woman said "I know, but we have to check don't we" and then barely lifted up his shirt to take a glance - because she had already decided that he was the bad guy.

That "I know..." is horrifying, the more I think about it.

I’m confused why people think that white people can’t be racist towards white people? Anyone can be racist towards anyone, even if they’re the same race. Women can be misogynistic, gay people can’t be homophobic etc

The race of the officers and victim doesn’t automatically rule out racial bias. The question is whether race or ethnicity influenced how the people involved were perceived or treated.. which clearly it did

I didn’t say that but I find it hard to believe white police don’t want to protect white people as some massive trend.

Pange79 · Yesterday 21:05

Yeah, that's not what happened though.

Yes that's exactly what happened. They turned up and believed the words of the non white murderer who was standing unhurt over the body of the clearly injured white person saying they'd been stabbed, so that they didn't appear racist. It's so ingrained in public bodies they probably didn't even realise they were doing it. It's systemic. Separate to this we've seen an explosion in knife crime in London- because stop and search was deemed racist. We're seeing crime soar because police are ineffective- but you get 5 officers arresting a comedian at Heathrow because of his gender critical comments. This is the outcome of appeasement rather than actual policing. Vickrum thought he could get away with murder by playing race card - and he possibly almost did.

Zero violence reported - are you watching the Live Stream on YouTube? They just said a prayer for Henry…. Oh wait, I guess this is the wrong religion… can’t possibly defend those law abiding Christians can we.

There are yobs attacking police on the street. They are lobbing cans and bins. The people living there must be terrified.

The problem seems to be that some people see characteristics over other flesh and blood humans, even when they are suffering apparently.

No they didn't omg watch the video they handcuffed him when he was pulled from behind the car

Just another example of how certain incidents are being dismissed.

Hmm it’s not a very good comparison.

Yes me too, far more unsettled as the parent of a white young adult.

Don't be so bloody silly.

OneTealShaker · Yesterday 21:06

The gaslighting far left race baiters on this thread are disgusting.

If you have watched the and can’t imagine that being your son dying in handcuffs while his killer who player the race card and his family stand over you, and the police belittle you, dragging his dying body across the drive, while he pleads that he can’t breathe, then you are the problem.

And he was just a student starting out his life hundreds of miles from home, brutally murdered.

These wokesters will tell you there’s nothing to see here. They are the same people who were taking the knee and advocating for corrupt BLM organization a few years ago.

It has been proven many a time. The grooming gang scandal is a good example. Police didn’t want to act because they didn’t want to be labelled as racist

Whysnothingsimple · Yesterday 21:06

thistimelastweek · Yesterday 19:13

Tommy would be so pleased to hear that

Do you not agree that the sustained demonisation of young white men (and to a lesser extent women) has caused massive issues in this country?

Dollymylove · Yesterday 21:06

Quokkas · Yesterday 20:53

That’s still not racism though.

Ah well thats alright then innit.

How many years ago was it that Gordon brown lost the election after talking about a woman who was airing concerns about Easter European immigration was dismissed as "who let that bigoted old woman in".
Any they have learned exactly what in the past 12 years?

He wasn't wrong though was he. He should never have apologised. She was bigoted, and apologising only emboldened bigots.

Dollysleftnip · Yesterday 21:06

The police need to make a public apology on behalf of their officers
Everyone in attendance made a complete pig ear of the situation and unless they acknowledge that we won’t move forward

Well I think it is!

The Mums been convicted of assisting an offender and will probably go down.

I feel far more unsettled as a parent of white young adults in a country where police are more concerned about being called racist than protecting people against violence.

Edited

This. Thank you @Broccolish

Source?

Although what does that have to do with white police officers apparently profiling a young white man?

Source? It's called having my eyes and ears open, not using faux naivety to score points. Uncle Tom and coconut are two derogatory terms often used by defund police proponents. I need present no empirical evidence for something you already are aware of.

What are you trying to say?

fairydustt · Yesterday 21:07

youalright · Yesterday 21:04

Can someone explain to me how throwing glass bottles at the police which is currently whats happening, help this situation

It doesn’t help, and I don’t support it.

but history shows that when people feel ignored, angry, or believe there’s been a serious injustice, some will inevitably lash out. That’s not a justification, just reality.

The question is why so many people are angry enough to be out there in the first place.
