Perhaps all her friends have Agas.

MrsShawnHatosy · 02/06/2026 09:48

I bought a special double strap for my DSLR camera so back and shoulders can take the weight off your neck. That worked really well. Also a polarising filter for my mobile phone, rubbish, did nothing. Could have been a cheap knock off of the actual thing though.

ExitPursuedByABare · 02/06/2026 09:49

I have an Aga. Wouldn’t be without it. DD keeps trying to persuade me to switch it off in the summer and buy an air fryer. No thanks Sweetie.

Isn't it rather hot in the summer?

We use the airfryer a fair amount as it's just two of us - so I'll roast veg in it and put some salmon in the other drawer. Or marinated chicken breasts.

ClaredeBear · 02/06/2026 10:22

It’s just advertising and we’re all suckers for that!

ExitPursuedByABare · 02/06/2026 10:47

@PartyQuestion30th No. I have it in a big room - probably 30’ x 20’. Patio doors and conservatory doors and windows open if it is hot. I’m in the North West so it’s rare that we get exceptionally long periods of very hot weather. No other form of cooking or heating in this room and it’s where I spend most of my time.

Yes it’s expensive but it brings me more joy than grief.

Haven’t we all at some point fallen for marketing to make us or life better

My list of top wastes of money

steam mop - this is from about 13 years ago and it still bothers me
various creams/serums to help rid my face from dark spots non have worked
Spiraliser courgette will never replace spaghetti I have accepted this now
slimming tea
low carb honey tastes nothing like honey
low carb bread was like eating soggy cardboard (this is from someone who loves ryvita that’s how mad it was)
Gatineau Gradual Tan I looked an odd colour
Coco and Eve just looked very fake
Nars light reflecting eye brightener, yes it brightens under the eyes but not the effect I wanted
facial massager have used it once as I cba

in use my nutribullet a few times a week but at times it will go back in the cupboard for months and use the airfryer all the time it’s my best kitchen buy

various creams/serums to help rid my face from dark spots non have worked

I have dark spots mostly on my hands rather than my face but otherwise I agree.

The only thing that works for me is a hydroquinone cream bought online from an Andorran (!) pharmacy!

No not obtuse - I'd just want to know what the cost saving is, as its going to take up room. To understand the hype around the product

I don't know what the exact cost savings are, but I know that it was a lot cheaper, cooler, and quicker to make the croutons for my chicken caesar salad last night than turning the oven on, waiting for it to warm up while sweating my arse off and paying for the oven to use maybe 10% of its capacity.

A quick Google brought up this Which report. If you don't want to click it says that an airfryer costs less than half to cook various standard items than a conventional oven, sometimes a third.

What a weird post.

Obviously I know they exist. But I've not seen one in someone's house for over twenty years. I can't think of a single friend or family member whose oven is not fitted as part of their kitchen units.

I've never had one in any home I've owned, and I've owned four properties now. I think one rented house must have had one but that was well over twenty years ago and I can barely remember the kitchen.

We live rurally, most people l know in the villages have freestanding, range masters and similar or agas. They are old houses with country kitchens mainly so maybe depends where you live?

LarksAscending · 02/06/2026 17:00

Theunamedcat · 01/06/2026 14:22

Who is preheating? It's a fan oven just turn it on put food in it cooks fine

Of course you’re meant to preheat. Otherwise you’re cooking your chicken at a slowly increasing temp from 0 to the required temp for 10+ minutes. So then it will require the 15m cooking time + the 10 min heating time meaning it’s taken 25mins and is now overcooked slightly. While the air fryer is the right temp in seconds and so only takes 15m.

Of course it’s worth the 10 min preheat when you then need to cook a whole chicken, tray of vegetables and Yorkshire pudding or a cake etc. but when you’re making a handful of croutons, reheating a single chicken breast, or frying a few chips it’s a waste of time and energy and money.

I don't think it depends where you live. I think it depends how rich the people are whose houses you visit.

There are loads of old houses like that where I live, in a village full of thatched houses, farms etc. But I don't know any of the people who live in them so I've never been in their kitchens.

The normal houses in the village, where people I know live, have your average fitted kitchen with fitted oven.

We know a mix of people with both types of oven, I think most newbuilds come with built in ovens, but many people choose rangemaster free standing ovens when they dontheir own kitchens. No one in our area is especially rich, but freestanding ovens are quite common to see.

@IcedPurple
Would you mind giving more derails of the cream? The one I'm using is rubbish, even though it was recommeded to me!

I'm also fascinated that you managed to find it in Andorra!!

I'm not sure how "being unreasonable" would enter into it.
It could imply being gullible, or foolish, or wasteful - but why unreasonable?

🙄

Squirrelchops1 · 02/06/2026 19:59

Halara 5" shorts arrived today. The ones with fitted shorts underneath and looser fabric in top. They're brilliant.

piscofrisco · 02/06/2026 20:41

Phonicshaskilledmeoff · 29/05/2026 23:21

im about to be influenced - the Halara shorts! Does someone need to stop me?

No. I wear these every day for work in summer (im an outdoor therapist) for walking in and for pilates. They fit well, wash well, look nice, have hidden pockets and come in lots of colours and two different lengths. Best shorts ive ever bought by a mile .

Mumdiva99 · 03/06/2026 06:39

So this arrived. A fully advertised repeatedly on FB purchase. 2XL my bottom. If a size 14 is 2XL it will probably fit you. I am a larger busty woman and it looks like a micro bikini!!! Absolutely waste of £10.99 and £3 postage.
(My husband said why did you think a cheap bra would work? - because all the ladies in the adverts say it does....)
And of course no way to send it back and get a refund.....

AIBU to admit I was influenced into buying those popular products?

I’m pointing out, just because you haven’t experience of it, lots of people do have freestanding ovens. It’s okay to be wrong! 😂

There are actually a few Andorran pharmacies who sell online. I think it has to do with the fact that they are not an EU member so not subject to EU legislation on ingredients such as hydroquinone, which is banned in most of Europe.

The one I use is Farmacia Tristaina [email protected]. I've ordered from them several times and found them reliable. They make a lot of products in house and don't advertise them on the website. You have to email them and they will send you a price list. The product I use is tretinoin 0.1% hyaluronic acid 0.2% hidroquinone 4% 30gr which costs 49€. It lasts for months and actually works so I consider it a bargain!
