Air fryer is smaller than oven. Therefore preheating takes 10 seconds not 10 minutes and using it costs less. Makes sense when all you’re doing is heating a single slice of pizza or a handful of chips.

But...most ovens are built in, are people getting these instead of an oven and having their ovens removed? Maybe over time money is saved?

What ties people up when something is being preheated? I'm not staring at the oven thinking gosh if only this took 10 seconds I'd be free to so something else.

Baffling mainly.

@Negroany I wondered that too, then I googled Amber and oud antiperspirant , seemingly Wild make antiperspirant now as well.

Oh!

Sorry, think it was late 🙂

I thought that. Then I got one.

And, it's OK, it has its uses. I don't cook pizza, or chips. But it is good for a single chicken breast, salmon piece. Roasted veg. An extra side dish if cooking for a lot of people.

The fact it doesn't need to preheat is good - I can just think about what I want for lunch, and cook it, and eat it. It cooks quicker. The thing with pre heating the oven, is that you don't put the food in until it's heated, which can take fifteen minutes. Which is fifteen minutes of electricity. And fifteen minutes your food isn't being cooked. If I want chicken and salad, I can do the chicken the air fryer in fifteen minutes all in, not fifteen minutes preheat then half an hour to cook.

It was £80, it's not very big. I've worked out that using it twice a week, it will repay me in under a year, and then I'll be better off.

But I don't rave about it like some people. But that's probably because I don't eat chicken nuggets and chips!

Carrie76 · 01/06/2026 09:59

@Mumdiva99 i buy my soap and soap bag from Mavis Nest. They’re Irish based if they don’t ship to where you are I’m sure there must be something similar out there.

I get that - but also wonder were all of us looking for a quicker oven? I honestly can't say I've ever thought I really need to find a way to cut down the length of time the oven takes. Although now you describe it I'm thinking it would be good to make a salmon fillet on my lunch break 😂

I was tricked into buying a spiralizer. Bloody Ella. I only made courgettey once, absolutely vile.

Yes, not remotely delicously Ella and her 'clean eating' schlock have a lot to answer for! Thank god that trend is a bit last decade now.

I've come to the conclusion that if I'm going to eat pasta I'm going to eat pasta. The real thing. If I'm looking to cut back on carbs then I'll just eat it less often. Same with all that nasty 'healthy' ice cream. I'd much prefer just to eat proper delicious (sugar and calorie laden) ice cream instead of that insipid fake stuff. Just maybe not so often.

minipie · 01/06/2026 11:42

The air fryer is like the boiling water taps - Quooker etc. Nothing wrong with the kettle. But once you’ve got used to not having to wait, it’s really annoying to go back to the kettle 😆

That said I don’t have an air fryer because I barely use the oven, and when I do it’s for a casserole or big roast that the air fryer wouldn’t do. If I want a quick piece of salmon or chicken I’d just fry it?

MoonWoman69 · 01/06/2026 11:43

My new built in fan oven is better energy rated than the last one and takes precisely 9 mins to heat up. Have had several air fryers since they first appeared and much prefer a fan oven!

The best teeth whitner is pola day or pola night you originally have to get it from the dentist with custom guards made then is cheaper to buy refills from 3 party sellers online.
I moved from wild deoderant when they were taken over by unilever to Make Waves which is uk produced.
I kept getting ads for Froya skincare so looked at the ingredients and bought bottles of the actives online which are basically beeswax balm, sea buckthorn oil and bakuchiol.
Bakuchiol is a natural retinoid and Nikura sells big bottles.
For neck sag i use an at home RF device.
Ordinary glycolic toner is the best thing for ingrown hairs and smelly armpits.
I bought Inspiriko collagen from amazon as it has the same ingredients as Elevate. However it tastes awful. Apparently taking collagen works but not directly. Your gut detects excess collagen and thinks the body is losing too much so it makes more.
I try to not buy any advertised stuff now unless i type in the product name then scam. The latest was Dr Melaxin korean skincare.
Prescription Strength on insta is a Dr who debunks all the wellness fads and is worth looking at.
She also bought a crimpit....I never did
I want norwegian? socks!

Of course people aren’t having their ovens taken out. It is possible to have and use both. Not quite sure why you’re being so obtuse. Or maybe you have money to burn waiting for a large oven to heat up to cook a couple of fish fingers? 🤷‍♀️

No. My air fryer is used in a daily basis for small stuff, and my oven for cakes, pizzas and roasts.

I have the over sunglasses and they are alright. I use them especially in the car. They won’t win any fashion awards but they are ok.

Can anyone give me a link for good Nordic socks please?

Has anyone bought this foundation?

merodacosmetics.co.uk/products/changing-foundation?tw_source=google&tw_adid=&tw_campaign=23523717982&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=23519025098&gbraid=0AAAAA9_P3J3lqkL850tajz5YDg60ponc8&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIs7eVjPbilAMVwpVQBh1wcgC6EAQYASABEgIa2vD_BwE&view=volume-discount-cf-ab-first-img

I did buy the foundation, didn't get around to using it until after the money back period, if memory serves. (And it's the right foundation I'm thinking of. I go through phases of buying several recommended foundations, convinced one of them will be my holy grail.) Of course, I didn't get on with it at all, ended up binning it, sadly.

I've got Kevin Murphy curly products and melatonin on the way, thanks to recent threads, hope lives eternal!

YoBetty · 31/05/2026 11:29

A potato ricer. It is supposed to make mashing easier. Well the one I had didn't, not unless you had biceps like Popeye, and the thing was a pain in the arse to clean. Off it went to the charity shop, and good riddance.

Ha ha, I tried one too. It takes forever to get enough potato through it, makes a massive mess. By the time you've riced your potato it's gone cold. Also I make my mash rustic style with the skin left in, that won't work using a ricer either.

HeidiLite · 01/06/2026 18:25

I love my ricer but I do have biceps like Popeye

ExitPursuedByABare · 01/06/2026 18:30

Agree re the ricer. But is does make great mash.

No not obtuse - I'd just want to know what the cost saving is, as its going to take up room. To understand the hype around the product

You can work out the saving yourself depending which one you buy, the wattage of your oven, and how often you would use it instead of the oven.

Mine doesn't take up any room because it also slows cooks and toasts, so I've got rid of the slow cooker and toaster creating the space needed.

I bought a ready meal last night without realising it couldn't go in the mw, so I popped it in the air fryer for five minutes less than the oven instructions, and no preheating, so it was ready in twenty minutes instead of thirty five, and the air fryer costs less to run - putting a whole oven on for one ready meal is mad.

My FAN oven has a special beep to tell you when it's at the right temperature. So the oven itself thinks it needs to be pre heated 🤷🏻‍♀️
