Re-useable/washable sanitary pads on the washing line for all to see - yay or nay?

If you use re-usable/washable sanitary pads, do or would you line dry them after washing assuming four or five neighbours can easily see them?

I have period knickers and I hang them out . If I lived somewhere where it was very obvious and I knew the neighbours I might put them on a clothes horse somewhere hidden either indoors or outdoors . I wouldn’t want my neighbours looking at washed pads on display if it was quite obvious what they are . Personally

Monty36 · Today 15:17

No.

hahabahbag · Today 15:19

Yes, couldn’t care less who sees. I had period underwear fairly early on and my neighbour asked how good was it then bought some herself, hers went on the line too

I have neighbours who think they own the street (they dont) and we all have to live by their rules (fuck that for a game of soldiers)

Her next door once had a right go at me for hanging my apple catcher knickers (and bras) on the line (on one of those sock things) as it 'upsets my brother' (really her boyfriend but for benefit purposes, hes her brother)

Dp had to stop me from buying a glitter flagpole to hang them on so I settled for hanging them out on the line itself

I take great pleasure from pissing them off and they cant do a thing about it

He shouldn't be gawping at my garden, let alone my underwear

im fully aware at how childish i can be,I take after my no nonsense father

If I had periods thank you coil and premenopause which means i dont id hang them out with no thought at all

Women wear bras, pants and have periods-thats the end of that

Fuck em

What are "apple catcher knickers" please?

UniquePinkSwan · Today 15:25

No. Normal clothes are bad enough

Fizzybluewater · Today 15:25

ProudCat · Today 14:23

Yep. It was produced by Spare Rib at some point in the 1980s when even advertising sanitary products was banned. It was a political statement and, like most politics, is about the collective rather than the individual - unlike colourful undies.

Yes, but I don't feel the need to wear my underwear on show in public so why would I want to tell the world I was on my period? Who cares and who needs to know? That's why I said it's a 'look at me, I'm special'.
Everyone knows girls and women have periods why announce to the world a woman is having theirs on a t shirt ?

Londonrach1 · Today 15:27

Yes.

Yes. I hang my knickers and bras out. I don't care who can see what.

When my DS was tiny he had some reusable nappies and they were hung out.

Granny pants.

I’d peg them to a foldable clothes airer.
i have inherited a small amount of my mothers inhibitions/prudishness
She couldn’t say certain words
Sanitary towels were “ women’s things”

I thought you were going to say you'd inherited a small amount of your mother's sanitary towels - I was going to say "eww" to that!

I hang mine out. Nothing to be ashamed of.

Sorry-they are massive granny pants (it must be a regional thing-they are known as 'apple catchers' where im from)

The type that not only cover your bum they almost pull up to your nipples

I wear them at work as im always running around and cant be arsed with anything less than comfort

Why use reusable sanitary pads really… very unhygienic

Of course it’s not, don’t be so silly.

And op, yes, they are hung on the line. They are small and unobtrusive. They also dry very quickly so you can peg them on with a tshirt if you want to hide them a bit, they will still dry.

But one side is patterned and the other is black, so there are no stains or anything, nothing unsightly.

No different to period pants surely?

violetcuriosity · Today 15:45

Yes, they look like baby bibs and have no stains on them…

Because she wants to? We all wear clothing that we like and/or that portrays us in a way we would like to be portrayed. I don't see why anyone "needs to know" via t-shirt that someone supports Arsenal or likes Led Zeppelin or shops at Chanel. But people display these things because... they want to!

I like hanging eg sheets out to dry as it feels nicer and dries beautifully. I’ve never seen underwear on anyone’s line.

NaomiBunch · Today 15:49

Thank you everyone, I really appreciate your comments.

I hang mine out.
My friend is shocked and horrified at the prospect of me doing so.

I just moved. I have not hung any knickers or bras out yet. My back garden is very exposed compared to where I used to live

What does she do -- free bleed on the street? Stay at home and sit secretly on a special cushion for five days? Sneak to the shop to buy tampons only when it's dark? Hide them very far back in the bathroom cupboard in case anyone realises she's menstruating?

I have just looked at my neighbour's washing line, but it is too far away to say for sure whether the blobby fabric shapes are actual underwear or sleep shorts.

SparklyGlitterballs · Today 15:54

I have some small zip up net bags that are for putting delicate items in the washing machine. If someone was sensitive about hanging pads on the line they could put them in one of these and hang that up. They'd still dry easily but wouldn't be so visible.

You can attach each pad to the other using the press studs/snaps and have a hanging banner of sannies. Your neighbours will think it’s a wind chime.
