Re-useable/washable sanitary pads on the washing line for all to see - yay or nay?

If you use re-usable/washable sanitary pads, do or would you line dry them after washing assuming four or five neighbours can easily see them?

I'd probably avoid it if possible by hanging them indoors or I'd put them in between things so they can't be seen as easily. I'd feel the same way about other underwear, as well, unless I had no option but to hang them in clear view of neighbours.

murasaki · Today 14:05

I wouldn't if I used them.which i don't, as I think they're grim, but I do get that's a me issue.

And I don't put underwear on the line either, but it does go outside on an airer that isn't overlooked.

But that too is a me issue, everyone should just do what they're comfortable with.

Hotsaucenoketchup · Today 14:10

Wouldn’t even think about it - it comes out of the washing machine and gets pegged onto the line - no matter what it is.

and I know this will horrify some - but my DH would equally just hang it out without batting an eye…

Cloth is cloth whether it’s pants , period pads or pinafore - pull out the machine and hang out to dry - and I couldn’t give a monkeys who sees any of it!

Excited101 · Today 14:23

Of course! The sun helps remove stains. I hang everything out!

Washing goes on the line and personally I don't give a toss that my older neighbours see my lacy knickers and colourful undies. They don't need to look at them.
That's an interesting t shirt. A bit 'look at me, I'm special'🙄

Yep. It was produced by Spare Rib at some point in the 1980s when even advertising sanitary products was banned. It was a political statement and, like most politics, is about the collective rather than the individual - unlike colourful undies.

LittleGreenShoots · Today 14:24

I hang my period underwear on the line- I figure the sun is good for sterilizing them. I don't really notice what my neighbours washing line has on it.

wishingonastar101 · Today 14:29

I would. Maybe on one of those octopus peg hanging things - like you would with hankies or knickers.

Why use reusable sanitary pads really… very unhygienic

What nonsense.

And to answer why - better for the planet, no nasty chemicals like single use towels and cheaper in the long run.

Yes of course. What I hang on my own washing line is nobody else's business. If anyone complained I'd stick them on top of a big flagpole with a big sparkly cardboard arrow pointing to them.

I have neighbours who think they own the street (they dont) and we all have to live by their rules (fuck that for a game of soldiers)

Her next door once had a right go at me for hanging my apple catcher knickers (and bras) on the line (on one of those sock things) as it 'upsets my brother' (really her boyfriend but for benefit purposes, hes her brother)

Dp had to stop me from buying a glitter flagpole to hang them on so I settled for hanging them out on the line itself

I take great pleasure from pissing them off and they cant do a thing about it

He shouldn't be gawping at my garden, let alone my underwear

im fully aware at how childish i can be,I take after my no nonsense father

If I had periods thank you coil and premenopause which means i dont id hang them out with no thought at all

Women wear bras, pants and have periods-thats the end of that

Fuck em

It depends on your house set up for me. I'm in a terrace and there is no privacy between me and next door. Their washing is right up next to my garden on one long line, so yeah it would give me the ick a bit if they hung them out. Wouldn't really want to be sitting there eating my sandwich watching those flap in the wind!

For that reason I also dont hang my underwear outside. I know I shouldnt feel embarrassed but I just would. Next door never hang out underwear either.

Why would it give you the ick? They’d be clean and fresh out of the wash.

Pinkflamingo10 · Today 14:36

Yep. I also hang out period pants. Bras. Nappies and reusable wipes and breast pads.

Kucinghitam · Today 14:37

Yes, they (like any other small items) go on the socktopus.

I doubt if my neighbours are studying the contents of my washing line, but even if they did, that would be a Them problem. I certainly don't notice what's on their washing line, I couldn't tell you if they hang their bras and bondage gear out.

And yet they know you have a period. Every month. Like every woman of childbearing age in the world

We don’t all have periods every month. I wouldn’t want my neighbours being able to track my menstrual cycle (I know they are unlikely to bother, but still…)

How are they grim exactly?!

If you get some period blood on your underwear do you wash it and wear it again or throw them out?

ThisBirdOnThatRoof · Today 14:45

Hankunamatata · Today 12:45

Yes. Sunlight kills somehting like 99.8% of bacteria and removes stains.

Yes.

HopefulYankee · Today 14:45

I peg all my underclothes outside on a foldable clothes airer, never on the line.

OriginalUsername2 · Today 14:45

I’d hang them somewhere low and more private, personally.

NumberOneFanNot · Today 14:46

AprilMizzel · Today 12:52

I put them on sock peg drier surrounded by pants and socks - one hook and it all comes in when it rains.

Same

Daftypants · Today 14:46

I’d use one of those small drying thingies that’s perfect for hanging socks on ( one from Ikea looks like an octopus 🐙 )
I use one of those for all small things like reusable makeup removal pads , socks , face cloths etc
Getting them in direct sun is good as sun has antibacterial and bleaching properties ( which is why I try to hang dark clothes / jeans inside out )
i did once have a neighbour ( i have moved house quite a bit ) who asked me not to hang anything other than sheets and t shirts on my line !!!!
can you believe it !!!
I asked why , she said “ I can see them from my kitchen window “

Twisterlollies · Today 14:49

Yes. My neighbour hangs up his grubby boxers, so why not? They don’t have any visible blood on them.

I've been using them for ten years. They are so much more hygienic than chemical laced, synthetic plastic pads which I wouldn't dream of putting anywhere near my body personally.

Some is different to all of it. I also found pads grim and badgered my mum for tampons from about 13.

But if you'd read my whole post, I said that's a me thing, and others should of course do whatever they feel comfortable with. I'd certainly have no issue with seeing them on a line over the fence , I just don't want to do it myself, which was the question.

pointythings · Today 14:56

DD uses them and they absolutely go out on the line with everything else. I don't use them because yay menopause.

SummerMadnessBegins · Today 15:04

Anyone who knows what they are wouldn't care and anyone who doesn't know what they are (who might be "shocked")... wouldn't know so wouldn't care either. It's the perfect situation really.
