Re-useable/washable sanitary pads on the washing line for all to see - yay or nay?

If you use re-usable/washable sanitary pads, do or would you line dry them after washing assuming four or five neighbours can easily see them?

I’d peg them to a foldable clothes airer.
i have inherited a small amount of my mothers inhibitions/prudishness
She couldn’t say certain words
Sanitary towels were “ women’s things”

I put them on sock peg drier surrounded by pants and socks - one hook and it all comes in when it rains.

I would do this.
Surely it's the same as hanging out your underwear?

Bikenutz · Today 12:56

I would personally put them out if you’re comfortable hanging out pants and bras. A lot of people wouldn’t recognise what they were.

If it makes you feel uncomfortable, leave them on an airer indoors next to an open window.

Ohshitiveturnedintomymother · Today 12:57

My god life is too short to care of neighbours have seen your underwear or reusable pads! Genuinely who cares?

bridgetreilly · Today 12:58

Yes, of course. The more we normalise people seeing period-related products, the better.

No. Use a tampon.

There are of reasons why someone might not want to use a tampon.

Bunnyofhope · Today 13:00

Yes but there are nosy people about! Elderly mum says her and her sisters used to try to find out which of the neighbours were pregnant but looking out for the arrival of the monthly washing

CardiBTEC · Today 13:01

I do it, I don’t care. When my step-dad asked what they were I cheerfully told him too.

NaomiBunch · Today 13:02

Thanks everyone.

A friend and I have very divergent perspectives on this. So obviously I thought I'd ask the wise women of MN.

Of course I would hang them out - why not? It's time people stopped being so twee about periods. We have had period products ads on the TV for years now.

No I wouldn't. But I dont hang out my bras etc either.

I don’t hang out underwear at all. When I was a teen living at my parents someone was stealing knickers off the washing line. Not a word of a lie. Absolute wrong un.

AxolotlEars · Today 13:08

Yep.

Why use reusable sanitary pads really… very unhygienic

They really aren’t.

Zimunya · Today 13:10

megacat · Today 12:42

I don’t use them but if I did I absolutely would hang them out, women menstruate and it’s not something to to be ashamed of or hide.

Exactly this. People don't have to look into your garden if it offends them.

notanotherusername2026 · Today 13:11

I have them and have hung them out to dry on the washing line. They're great and I would be surprised if my neighbours even knew what they were.

If you're really worried about others seeing them, you could "hide" them in a rotary airer rather than on a washing line.

I’ve always hung out underwear. We have a pretty secure garden and as for neighbours being able to see them, I couldn’t care less.

Seriously???

Nemorth · Today 13:17

Yes I hang them out but I have a whirligig and I hang all small things (knickers, bra, pads) on the inner smaller lines and bigger things on the bigger lines so they are hidden…but not deliberately. It’s a logical use of the whirligig space.

CocoaTea · Today 13:18

AnnaQuayRules · Today 13:13

Seriously???

Yes seriously. I dry those things indoors.

ThePlantPotter · Today 13:19

I hang mine out and I don't think they're that distinguishable from any other pants, the inside lining is black so unless you looked really closely you wouldn't tell a difference. If they're on the line they're clean anyway so who cares, nothing to feel embarrassed about imho 🤷‍♀️

NaomiBunch · Today 13:23

These are the kind of things I'm talking about, not period pants.

I also don't hang out my underwear, but I realise that's very much a me problem 😳 I live next door to an older, single gent and our gardens are very small and close together, I'm not sure how he'd feel about it either if I'm honest

takealettermsjones · Today 13:24

Yes of course. What I hang on my own washing line is nobody else's business. If anyone complained I'd stick them on top of a big flagpole with a big sparkly cardboard arrow pointing to them.

Whyhaveibeencutoutofmamsnot · Today 13:24

Better than putting into landfill

WannabeMathematician · Today 13:26

Ok why are you important enough that people will stare at your washing line long enough to work out what these are?
